re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350 Owners Experiences
Congratulations, gowtham raj. My Thunderbird 500 has recorded a fuel efficiency [FE] of 33.1 kmpl for the first time during Bangalore to Chennai solo ride recently. The earlier FE recorded were 28.xx kmpl, all on highways. My Thunderbird 500 is nearing 2,000 km on odo and has already completed the first servicing and the second one is fast-approaching.Originally posted by gowtham raj View PostLast edited by J.Ravi; 06-16-2013, 11:21 AM.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350 Owners Experiences
Before and after. I first fitted the diamond crash guard but it interferes too much with the pedals and become too risky while riding in city. Then I saw J. Ravi fitted his bike with the new design. I too got it shipped from Chennai through a nephew at Rs.950/-. Now, no more problems. The new crash guard do look good with the TB, however, the quality of the nuts and bolts are not up to the mark. mine snapped in two while fitting. The lower part of the crash guard is too thin and joint by two nuts. It would have been more sturdy had the guys who came up with it welded it like the diamond one."on eagles' wings"

Changed tyres to 90/90x19 Zapper FM front and 120/80x18 Zapper C rear.
Pros: Handling is excellent now.
Better wet grip.
No more swaying during heavy winds.
Cons: There is noticeable decrease in height even at the front and slight speedo error due to the low profile tyres.

Hello people,
My electra(CI) seems to heat up abnormally oflate . Even the bend pipe is getting a yellowish shade, which is why i am a bit alarmed. The engine oil is new and there is absolutely no problem with the clutch plate. My mech tells me to change the clutch plate, but i am almost sure ki he's trying to con me.
Please help.

re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350 Owners Experiences
i came across a similar query long back and from what i remember its because of too lean mixture resulting in yellow color, and when the mixture is too rich the same will turn into blue, other reason might be improper ignition timing resulting in too much heat and yellow coloring... someone correct me if i am wrong.Originally posted by Aryaputra View PostHello people,

I used a butterfly guard until a while back and personally i wont recommend it. It looks good but the main disadvantage is that its clamps are not welded, but instead held together by tightening it to the vehicle and during a crash they can easily get misaligned and damage the vehicle. I threw it away after the crash and started using a diamond one.Originally posted by TranquilRageI think I just have to know if anyone got butterfly guard fitted in new TB. Already have airfly & diamond review.Last edited by Loner; 06-18-2013, 01:06 PM.

Have you changed the front and rear sprockets to compensate for the change in wheel size? Is there any noticeable difference in top speed and acceleration?Originally posted by Loner View PostChanged tyres to 90/90x19 Zapper FM front and 120/80x18 Zapper C rear.

I didn't understand where you said clamp for butterfly is not welded. isn't it the same for diamond type also? my diamond type has two U-shaped metal rods which have to be bolted onto the frame to hold the crash guard.

re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350 Owners Experiences
Rear sprocket change is not needed, just the front sprocket change is recommended to reduce the RPM. Dint feel any big change in acceleration, maybe because i'm not using it regularly these days. cant say about top end because i dont know exactly what its top end is, but i managed to do 125kmph long back and i felt it can do a little more. and with the current situation of Hyderabad roads, i doubt it'll be anytime soon !! btw, whats the top speed of your bird ?Originally posted by chotu_r View PostHave you changed the front and rear sprockets to compensate for the change in wheel size? my bird maxes out at 110kmph, these days its maxing out at 95-100. wonder why im losing acceleration and top end..... surely there must be something else going wrong than a loose chain.
checked the diamond one..... the u shaped clamps are not there, but a couple of bolts take their place. i'd say its as fragile as the arrangement shown in ur pic.

Get your clutch plates checked out , changes are they have reached the end of its life. let me guess, when you are giving throttle the rpm is rising , but with no apparent change in speed.
Also when changing the clutch plates, do change the friction plates and pressure plates along with them too. New clutch plates with old friction plates will wear the new clutch plates faster and within a few thousand kms you will have to open it up again.
Cheers

re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350 Owners Experiences
Thanks a ton mate! i have to hit 3k rpm quite frequently these days compared to just 2k odd rpm when bike was new, acceleration has gone for a toss completely. My bike is just 18k old...... clutch plates so soon ?!Originally posted by krish2778 View PostGet your clutch plates checked out , changes are they have reached the end of its life. let me guess, when you are giving throttle the rpm is rising , but with no apparent change in speed.

No problems mate. Just a probability. the symptoms you mentioned matches the clutch problems symptoms. Do get it checked. May be the plates are having some defect when you got the bike itself. Some people have clutch problems within 10k itself. My bikes first set lasted 47k , second set lasted 12k only, the plates were of inferior quality..well shit happens.
Cheers
