Hi Parasharj, I got these bags from "Adventure Sports Equipment" Shop in Bhavani Peth. These saddle bags as tailor made for Royal Enfield. They fit extremely well on the back sit. Each bag has 30 litre capacity and you can easily put 2, 1.5 litre bottles in the side mesh of each bag. The material used is water resistant and has loads of straps and buckles. The overall make is quite good. What I liked about the bags is that they are expandable based on the amount of stuff you want to carry in them. Also, you can adjust the height of the bags suspended with the help of adjustable strap that connects both the bags.

I understand that they had supplied tents, haversacks and other mountain climbing stuff to the Everest Expedition last year organized by "Giripremi" last year.

I bought them for INR2100 and they are definitely worth that for sure. Please visit their website www.gypsytents.com to understand their exact location. In case you still need any further help, do let me know.

            Hey Guyz,

Finally, she is here... Expecting my new Thunderbird 350 Flicker Black in a day or two. God damn, I am soooo excited... Can't wait to get my hands on her.

But as the time comes by, there are some questions arising in my mind (which was in hibernate mode earlier ). So here are some quick queries and I'm looking forward for some quick expert advise on them...

            1. How to find manufacturing month/year from chasis no.?
            - Searched for an answer and found this link on our own xBhp forum. Hope it is the correct method. (yeah, I know it is. but just for confirmation )

            2. PDI/Checklist ?
            - Got it somewhere on this forum itself. But any additions to it or any special mentions are welcome.

            3. As a safety measure I would like to install both crashguards (front as well as rear) before (or ASAP) I start riding. Where can I get good quality crashguards in Pune? I enquired @ Dhone showroom and found that they have front guard ONLY (Diamond crashguard @ 1100 Rs). Please guide me to any other shop where I can get both @ some nice price BUT no compromise on quality...

            4. And then here comes the MOST IMP. query... The silencer... As everyone knows that new birdie's silencer does not give that solid thump. Yeah, it's decent and nice but still that bull factor is missing. Can we change silencer of new model (I heard somewhere on this forum only that it's not a good idea..) Has anyone changed it ? If yes, is it OK to go for the upswept silencer of Classic model? I personally like that very much. And then I'll get it tuned for some solid thump (Please read SOLID and not LOUD).

Uummmm... enough for now. Any other mentions from your side are always welcome...
Hello Rahul Welcome back on this thread.. Good to know that you are finally getting delivery of your Thunderbird.. Regarding your queries:

1: I have fitted the air-fly crash guard. Purchased it from Adarsh Motors (Hirabaug Ganpati Chowk on Tilak Road) for Rs 900. If you buy it from the RE showroom, it will cost you anywhere between 1500-1800 bucks. The one I bought is extremely good. Manufactured by Swastik. Also, Adarsh Motors is a very good shop for buying original RE spares. I also bought the original Electra chrome RVMs (420 bucks) and replaced those terrible stock black plastic RVMs.

2: I have not replaced the silencer yet. The reason being, RE staff at Dhone (Marketyard) said it may result in violating warranty terms and conditions. Am not sure about this reason though, bcoz the RE supervisor at Kings Auto (Baner showroom) told me that silencer has nothing to do with warranty TnCs. To be on the safer side, I have decided to wait for 1 yr till the warranty period ends. Will then replace the silencer. Btw, had also thought of going in for Minda remote central locking system. But again, I was told that it would violate warranty TnC (since it involves cutting and altering of electrical wiring etc). So have postponed that idea as well.

If you have any other queries, let us know.. Hope to see you on the Pune roads sometime soon

Let us know if you make any mods for replacing the silencer. i was cautioned by re a.s.c. mechanics not to change silencer as it will harm engine. From what i have understood, there is a chance of aftermarket silencer being more free flow than existing one. if that is the case, then you will need to replace air filter with a freer flowing air filter and also rejet the carburettor initially, i used to think that maybe just tweaking the fuel screw might set everything right, but now having serious doubts regarding that. any thoughts from more experienced members??

did find a few local make windshields in a couple of shops and checked them out. they are available in two sizes. Small size is available for 400 with clamps. Large size which i have seen on some Bajaj Avengers is actually made of two plastic sheets which are joined by nut and bolt. Price is 800. Quality of both windshields is flimsy, definitely not components you would expect to survive a crash, but they are very cheap i guess.
one thing i want you to remember is that in ramkote you can easily get duped in terms of pricing. make sure you enquire in a couple of shops before buying anything.

i am not that experienced but what i learned from various ASC guys and some bullet mechanics, they dont harm the engine. in fact, i had the same doubt when the showroom guys offered me the short silencer (i dont know what a free flow one is , but mine produces medium thump, no loud dhud dhud dhud. if u want i'll post a few pics n video) at the time of delivery but assured me it'll not harm the engine, but when i went for the first service at secunderabad ASC the service guy was furious looking at the short silencer on a brand new bull . when i asked him about the silencer harming the engine, he said that it'll not do any harm but the company designed the long stock silencer in order to reduce sound pollution, emission levels blah blah blah.... and just warned me to change back to stock one during registration because the cops may raise an objection citing sound pollution. as a matter of fact even gachi bowli ASC guys are selling the same kind of short silencers !!

even i'm thinking to do something like that..good luck with the led hunting !

Thanks a lot for compliments parasher bhai... Will surely meet up some day for some bull-fight action... [OK, I'm kidding...]

1: I personally don't like air-fly crashguard. At least not on T'bird/Classic. It looks great on other bulls especially the older ones like standard/bullet. And yeah the air-fly is available in Dhone @ Rs. 1500. I hope diamond crashguard for new model is available in market. I've seen many of them on Pune roads.

2: Good point there about voilating warranty terms. But apart from that what I'm more concerned about is the performance of machine. Will it change if I change the silencer before 3000 Kms. I have read it here many times that one should go for a change only after 3000 kms as it gives engine enough time to get tuned according to conditions. But then isn't it weird that we let the engine tune according to stock silencer and then change it after say 3000 kms. Won't it change the performance of machine in that case?

Kind of expected answer from ASC guy. But i think the best way will be to confirm it from a local mechanic for some unbiased opinion.

Egjactely ! Even the Dhone showrrom guys are also selling aftermarket silencers (and even Indore silencer !). But is it a good idea to plug it in NEW model !!?

P.S.: I've seen a new model with changed silencer in Pune. But unfortunately, he was heading in opposite direction and crossed me at a square, so was unable to chase him and ask for the feedback...

                  • I enquired about silencer in ASC bangalore. They told me it is not good for new model to change silencer(aftermarket) and the company will launch the new WILD BOAR silencer for new tb in few months. He told me to wait for sometime.

I think the engine is same for both old tbts and the new tb350 and the colour of engine is different. So there will be not be any problem with engine if we change the silencer with aftermarket one..right??

Even I enquired about the same yesterday evening to ASC guy in Pune. The answer I got is something like "Silencer for new Thunderbird is not 'YET' available at us. (It means it will be available in nearer future...) If you install any of aftermarket silencer, company 'MAY' refuse the warranty as it may decrease the mileage. (Considering even if it is true, I wonder by what margin mileage drop will be there...) So better not to change it 'as of now'... (Means you may do anything with your machine once the warranty period is over...)"
It also means that the silencers available @ showroom are company approved. (*#!!?)

Just back from the ASC...2nd servicing due today.. Asked them about the silencer for the new Thunderbird.. Got the same response as you have mentioned.. I guess the 'company approved silencer' would be launched eventually.. how long that would be is anyone's guess..

Told the supervisor about a couple of issues that I was facing..namely, the crazy fuel gauge and the incorrect headlight focus. Told him to adjust the headlight focus a bit upwards. Fortunately, am not facing any other issues as such. Hope the beast's performance and overall experience improves even more after the 2nd service!

Bought the same saddle bag yesterday.. I have to say, out of all the saddle bags I have checked out so far within Pune, this particular one is undoubtedly the best from all aspects: material quality, storage capacity, strength, make and above all...price! Total VFM.. Thanks again Rajesh

Hi Parasharj, I am glad that you liked the bags. I tried them out on one day trip to Ganpatipule last weekend and it was quite easily to load them up and un load them. Overall, I am very satisfied with them and have confidence that they would serve me well on my Leh - Ladhak trip this year.

I wanted to know if anyone has modded their old TBTS with rear disc brakes as in new TBTS. If some one has already done so, please upload the snaps and review of the mods.

I am interested in having this mod before I go to Leh - Ladhak this year in June-July.

                            Thanks in advance

How was the headlight focus adjusted? I think there are only two bolts holding the entire headlight assembly to the chassis. Is there any other modification in the new model?
