I know that a lot of my buddies get stuff down like this. Stuff ranging from riding jackets, boots, to even tires. I even know one ninja owner who got a full system down in his check in baggage... no questions asked.

I guess you just pay the customs guys if you get stopped. It's not like you're carrying weapons or drugs or some illegal material.

Brother, if you are passing through the green channel then it means that you have nothing to declare and while passing through the green channel, if the customs official want to search you and find goods on you on which the customs duty should be levied then you are in for big trouble and can go to jail for that. I think the limit is 25K, that you can bring in goods amounting to 25K in total and you must have relevant bills to prove the same. Otherwise it is best to go through the red channel and pay the duties, you don't wanna steal from your own country. Mr. Hazare would need another birth!

Another thing to look out for is while claiming your luggage, if you see any strange marks on them then don't even think of going through the green channel as you will be stopped and asked to open your luggage. Before your baggage is put on the conveyor belt, it is scanned and custom officials mark the suspicious bags with chark marks or otherwise. I have actually tried this on my last trip. I showed my friend while going towards the green channel that there's a women carrying her luggage ahead of us. One of her bags had this sort of a marking and bingo she was stopped as soon as she tried crossing the channel.
    Be safe guys!

    • Good pointers. Thanks for sharing. Of course i'll go the legal way if i intend to get any stuff down.

@SamArul - how much duty did you pay for the AreaP full system considering it was packed and shipped separately from your check-in baggage? Was it cheaper than the full systems available here after paying all duties and taxes etc.?

But for other stuff like gold, home appliences etc.. it isn't like that.
25k limit is for goods for personal use and includes home appliances as well. Gold is under separate category and has a per kg customs component on it.

        Absolutely.

Your passing through green channel means that either you do not have anything to declare or you have goods less than permissible limit of 25k.

As someone who travels frequently on work abroad and also has brought through lots of personal gear, I can tell you that the rules often are thrown to the winds - by and large a lot depends on the whims and fancies of the Customs Officers on duty at that time.

I have been waved through after approaching the red channel with a full two piece leather suit that cost more than 50K and yet have been roasted for a 8K helmet. That to it was used by me while abroad! I have once paid twice the value of 7K priced touring boots as duty and yet another time been waved through with 3 sets of specialty bike shields bought for friends.

My attitude with Indian Customs - since you can't predict how they will behave, its best to keep an open mind - and be prepared to pay the duty if asked to!

                    • I wasn't stopped when i brought my brand new slrd, hd handycam, various other electronic gadgets and couple of mobile phones whereas once i was stopped and harassed for bringing a lens (worth 60k). I was even stopped once for trying to bring too many blu-ray dvds! haha! hence being a very frequent traveller, i advice everyone to keep a very open mind!

p.s. keep the receipts at all times and always respectfully linger around the customs if they're not letting you go! (wear them down and they'll eventually get bored-usually)

Chain rusted? Have you been riding around without any lube on the chain? Buy a canister of Motul Chain Clean and Chain lube (Road variant).

You should clean the chain and lube it at least once every 500 kms, or more frequently if it appears dry and/or dirty.

ya i bought this bike from ajay only, i found this bike pretty good and well maintained, so opted for it rather than buying a 10 year old 400 cc honda cbr.
