  • Re: Hero Honda Karizma ZMR

Friends, I completed a week long ride to Bhubaneshwar from Bangalore yesterday and hence I wanted to share my experiences on the road conditions from the trip.

    Route taken -
    Bangalore - Kolar - Mulbagal - Chittoor - Gudur (bypassing Srikalahasti) - Nellore - Ongole - Guntur - Vijaywada - Rajahmundry - Vizag - Srikakulam - Brahampur - Bhubaneshwar - Konark - Puri - Bhubaneshwar.

Return journey was 99% on the same route, except that I took Srikalahasti route from Gudur towards Chittoor.
Most of the route has roads laid. Construction is going on near Mulbagal, Chittoor, Vijaywada and Konark.
There are a lot of diversions between Vijaywada and Ongole. Couldn't count but there are at least 30-35 diversions and it was extremely tiring, compounded further by the trip being on a motorcycle and not a 4 wheeler.

Andhra has good roads but very few trees and absolutely no resting houses/sheds by the roadside. Plus, it was very hot. Added to that, there are no 3rd party joints (CCD/KFC etc) by the highway in major cities as well. I just found one SFC (Some Food Court) in Vizag.

Orissa/Odisha has visitor resting sheds but roads are mediocre at places.
But I'm glad to report that there were hardly 5 potholes that I saw (hit none) in this ~3300 km round trip.
I took halts for the night at Rajahmundry and Vijaywada while going and returning respectively. Hotels were descent with good parking for the vehicle.

In Bhubaneshwar, I stayed at Hotel Shrutee near the railway station and its VFM at 550 rupees per night for 2 people (They didn't have single bed rooms). Parking was decent and safe.
But, I admit I was late by a month in doing this trip as it was 42+ degrees already and I became a kebab in my riding gear. 10 AM to 5 PM were like nightmares! All in all, a lovely experience.

I suggest stick to stock....Yes they are costly but are also well built quality wise....A pair costs around Rs.1150/- in Mumbai

I see many ZMRs ridden with RVMs folded. What a stupid thing to do.

Then I also see morons riding with no helmets rider & pillion, earphones on and no RVM on a busy accident prone highway. Terrible!

Folded mirrors is a common sight with ZMR n Pulsar 220 insane riders.......It makes them feel the bikes aerodynamics have increased and they can cut through breeze n traffic with ease:-P

I am not regular these days guys. But i do keep up with the forum. I was in chennai for 2 days and my friend who recently got a Ray asked me to ride and see.. i forgot that it is a scooter. I started the vehicle holding the front brake and gave acceleration.. that too near a beach.. it was sandy everywhere.. the scooter just moved front and luckily i didnt let it go too much out of control. It kinda fell and the side mirror hit the side wall and pattak.. it broke.. she kept saying no problem. But i adviced her saying side mirrors are very important and i got her new one the next day.. got her a pair of Pro Biker Gloves and a proper full face helmet.. i gave her advice on safety and shr is following them.. she was like i never knew all these stuff existes when it comes to safety.

So this is the scenario in India..

You forgot about the Fazer and R15..

But even in naked bikes. People love to ride without mirrors.. why?? I dont understand.. idiots turn back to see if any vehicle is coming and boom.. gets hit or hits someone in the front..

Guys, what is the ideal level in the engine oil? Should be right in middle between high and low or should it be high? I think I topped off my engine to High when it was a little below the middle.

Many Chennai girls are listening to music when riding. Please discourage that also. I had to strongly reprimand my wife for the same.

even in my office, my team mates who come in Activa don't wear helmet. me and my pal have advised them to use proper full face helmet. Also, one of my team mate (friend) go her new activa on Saturday and she immediately called me and asked me to go with her to pick up a helmet. But little she knew about me unavailable now that I am back, I will be taking her today to get a proper helmet..

most Girls don't know anything about safety. the girl we advised on wearing helmet thought helmet is just to keep the dust from her face. so she said i am covering my face with all that clothes or whatever they call it.. then i showed her my helmet so that she can see the impact that I survived from some 6 months back.

No, I don't use the impacted helmet.. i just brought it in to show her how it can save life.. she still hasn't got a helmet, she said she will be getting it this weekend.

Hey buddy. I usually top up/refill up to the High Level. but the recommended level is just a little below the High level.. i.e some 1mm..

Well.. AFAIK, my friend is a newbie, so she won't even touch her mobile while riding.. and she doesn't listen to songs in her mobile.. so I am sure she doesn't ride with earphones plugged in..

I some time ride with ear phones.. but that is only when I go to gym early morning at 5:45.. no traffic.. again, I avoid it. I listen to songs once I reach Gym..
