Friends, I completed a week long ride to Bhubaneshwar from Bangalore yesterday and hence I wanted to share my experiences on the road conditions from the trip.
Route taken -
Bangalore - Kolar - Mulbagal - Chittoor - Gudur (bypassing Srikalahasti) - Nellore - Ongole - Guntur - Vijaywada - Rajahmundry - Vizag - Srikakulam - Brahampur - Bhubaneshwar - Konark - Puri - Bhubaneshwar.
Return journey was 99% on the same route, except that I took Srikalahasti route from Gudur towards Chittoor.
Most of the route has roads laid. Construction is going on near Mulbagal, Chittoor, Vijaywada and Konark.
There are a lot of diversions between Vijaywada and Ongole. Couldn't count but there are at least 30-35 diversions and it was extremely tiring, compounded further by the trip being on a motorcycle and not a 4 wheeler.
Andhra has good roads but very few trees and absolutely no resting houses/sheds by the roadside. Plus, it was very hot. Added to that, there are no 3rd party joints (CCD/KFC etc) by the highway in major cities as well. I just found one SFC (Some Food Court) in Vizag.
Orissa/Odisha has visitor resting sheds but roads are mediocre at places.
But I'm glad to report that there were hardly 5 potholes that I saw (hit none) in this ~3300 km round trip.
I took halts for the night at Rajahmundry and Vijaywada while going and returning respectively. Hotels were descent with good parking for the vehicle.
In Bhubaneshwar, I stayed at Hotel Shrutee near the railway station and its VFM at 550 rupees per night for 2 people (They didn't have single bed rooms). Parking was decent and safe.
But, I admit I was late by a month in doing this trip as it was 42+ degrees already and I became a kebab in my riding gear. 10 AM to 5 PM were like nightmares! All in all, a lovely experience.

now that I am back, I will be taking her today to get a proper helmet..
