    I have no other choice but to use a thicker oil at the moment.. have to save some money before i open to check the piston rings.. i dont want the bike parked idle without money to fix it after opening up the engine..

    more to add for my bike which I actually forgot
    did changed the oils just 800-1000kms back
    but the oil has lost viscocity and is pitch black now
    dont know whats the problem
    will change the oil and then see if the same problem persists

      I don't see any reason why we should switch to other oils be it SS/FS or even mineral oil when we were advised by the manufacturer to only use mineral oil(10W30) manufactured by Hero Honda(hero). I have now decided to ditch the Motul 5100 SS oil which costs 480-500INR as it does not even last 2500kms. I picked up two 900ml cans of hero and will stick to that forever and ever. It will last for at least 1200kms for my style of riding(Highway touring/ Racy sprints and occasional commuting) which is real bang for buck, rather than experiment with Gulf 4t Pride(20W40) meant for smaller engines which claim a insane drain interval of 6000kms, but in practical sense a mere 1800kms. Same goes for the much hyped AX7 which the FZ/FAZER owners fantasize and swear by for their puny 150cc mills.

        Its based purely on personal preference. Stock hero oil costs 277 a litre, and lasted for 1000 kms. A decent fs oil lasts for 3500-4000 kms, say shell ultra which costs 800 bucks. So it actually turns out cheaper.

          I prefer to change the engine oil at 2000 - 2500 interval no matter if it is Semi or Fully Synthetic.. with Gulf, I have done more than 1800 kms and now my bike is resting in the garage..

          Reason - I got hit on my head in Gym on Monday morning.. I can't wear helmet and now that I am alright, mom says please go in car as Marriage is nearing and I don't want you to risk going in bike.. I said keep your sentiments aside.. I dont like driving car as it takes me 30 whole freaking minutes to come home from office which is just 3 kms from my house.. damn.. I am missing riding my Black Pearl already I keep staring at her pic everyday hopefully i will start using my bike from tomorrow heading back to Gym

                        exactly. for my Hunk it is the same 10W30 and i have been using hero oil for past 30000KM, no issues at all. but i used to change oil at 3000KM.. once i have tried till 6000KM, it hold good for 3500max. at anytime hero oil only. Costs just Rs.230 in Chennai and it worth's every penny and i dont believe in other 10W40grades as i used AX7 before and i hate it to the core to use it again in my HUNK . i guess that is the same with ZMR.

                        P.S: The ASC guys were reluctant to give me 900ml oil can and asked me to change oil there itself. Wrote a mail to Regional office, the very next day got a call from that particular ASC and asked me whether i can come and collect the oil or they can come and give to me . but due to the urgency i had to buy Mobil 10W30(always this grade) Rs. 260 for r1L. so will have to wait and see how it performs against hero oil

                                [MENTION=39287]dineshaugustin[/MENTION] : The only reason I'm persistent on hero oil is because it's the specified grade and type, more so manufactured by hero itself. The manual mentions a detailed service schedule and it says the oil needs change at 4000kms and a top up at every 2000kms, in optimal conditions. The kind of usage my bike is subjected to, calls for an oil change at 1500kms which I feel is fair enough.
                                I was earlier using Motul 5100 15W50 which is SS ester which loses its smoothness in ride after 500kms which is insane for the price, moreover a different grade and type not recommended by the manufacturer.
