Guys i own a 2012 RTR 160. i have completed the 4th service and my beast has completed around 8000 kms. Mike bike is still producing lot of engine heat. the heat is near the TOE, and it coming right from the engine. what could be the issue. The engine heating occurs after 20-30 mins of riding.

Sometimes when i start my bike, my bike doesn't accelerate freely, it just struggles, i don't know how to explain, something holding to climb up the speed, and i can see lot of vibrations at that time.

Can any one help me.

Hi Folks,

A couple of days ago, I saw a guy on an old style Apache, with a registration # that was issued only a month or so ago. When I asked him if the retro Apache is still being sold, he said yes, and also informed me that they are not of old stock, but actually still being manufactured at the TVS factory, albeit in fewer numbers and only in Grey & Black colours. After that, I visited a couple of dealers and they also confirmed this. Both of them had the retro Apache in stock, mfg'ed in March 2013.

Due to this, I am getting majorly tempted to buy one. Could some Guru on the forum please confirm the above? Also, is the retro Apache a good buy w.r.t reliability, longevity, spares availability, price etc? I haven't had a very good experience with the Wego, and don't want to burn my fingers again with a lot of irritating issues cropping up every 2nd month.

It's true that the classic Apache is back in production. There have been very slight changes like newer switch gears and tubeless tyres on RTR160. Regarding reliability etc, the apache has an extremely reliable engine, but the thing you should worry about is the quality of the service centres around you. If they are good, you should have a pleasant ownership experience. I can't say the same if they are bad. Regarding the spare availability, it is good in most of the towns/ cities in greater India. However, I've heard of spares problem in West Bengal etc. It'd be better if you mention your location.

PS I own a 13.5K km clocked Aug 2011 RTR160. I have ripped it very hard. It hasn't had even a single niggle till now apart from valve clearance adjustment and front fork oil replacement, which again are routine. I'm not a good maintainer of the bike either. Only maintenance I do is change engine oil once in 2-2.5K km or 4 months. My style of maintenance is not at all recommended though. Follow a proper run in process and you should be good unless you are very unlucky.

I haven't tried 5100 but some experienced owners have their reservations against xW50 in RTR. I have used AX7 since the past three refills and I have had decent experience with it. It keeps the engine pretty smooth till about 7000-7500 RPM. I have also heard that Veedol Super Swift SS 10W40 is better than AX7. BTW, try these only if you have crossed 5K km. Else, stick to 20W40 mineral ones like Motul 3000 or AX5 till then.

I think for RTR Motul 5100 15w50 is better and its price is around Rs.545/-

Its nice too see old Apache back in production. Shell 10W40 costs around 320/-rs MRP , you can bargain it to 300. Its a nice oil (semi synth) and ensures quick starts and heat management . If you have done 5k-6k i suggest you give this oil a shot , you will appreciate its quality.Veedol on other hand is cheaper and better than shell but due to marketing its quite hard to find it .

Guys anybody from Chennai in this thread. Can you recommend any good SVC for Apache or any good mechanic in Chennai. I am fed up with the service done at RAMKAY TVS Chennai. They have untrained mechanics spoiled my bike. Now my bike handler bar is wobbling, and my bike handler bar is slight slanted towards right side. Engine is getting overheated. I have been reporting there issues since the 2nd service, and they never care about them. As of now all the free services are completed, I don't want to continue the paid service with them, so I am looking for searching for some good SVC or any good mechanics in Chennai.

Why dont you mail the TVS higher officials regarding the same. I'm sure they will get back to you.
Regarding SVC part I'm from Bangalore & cant help you on that.

It was sunny afternoon on 5th may 2013,when i decided to wash & wax my Apache RTR 160 Fi (2008 model).The last thing to do after that was to put in a new
spark plug because i strongly felt that the spark plug needs to be replaced because the engine firing was not upto the mark.I attempted to
remove the spark plug from the bike,but soon found that it was too tight.I removed it finally.I found that both the diodes were touching the
centre.I started putting in the new spark plug,but soon realized that the threads on the cylinder head are badly damaged.I was unable to fix
the new plug as it stopped moving just after a couple of turns.I panicked & began tightening the plug with full force until it broke into
two.The porcelain part in the cylinder head & the nut part on the ground.The local mechanic removed the cylinder head & drilled out the broken
plug & re-threaded the head with the help of a lathe machine.It's then that all the troubles started.After putting everything back again,the
bike simply won't start.On the first day he tinkered with the valves & replaced them.It didn't help.Next day he tinkered with the timing chain
& the bike started with too much valve noise.The mech said it's noisy because the valves need to be loosely fixed on TVS Apache for at least a
month or else the mileage will go down drastically.It went in a "shutdown" mode within 15-20 minutes.The next day i mounted the bike on a auto
trolley & went straight to Kiran Komercials in secunderabad.They repaired the bike in a single day,but....the valve noise remained which kept me worried.I finally
decided to get the clattering noise sorted out & again went to Kiran Komercials yesterday.I got the bike delivered today along with the suggestion that I'll have
to replace the cylinder head assembly which costs around 6500 Rs. in the near future.The reason given was that the re threading of the cylinder head was not
upto the mark & as a result of that there is a leakage (maybe he was referring to compression leakage-the service centre guy didn't clarify & sounded vague).
He said there is no other option & the problem could only be temporarily fixed.I was shocked to hear that.The clattering noise is gone & the bike is now butter
smooth.Can anybody shed some light on this issue please ?. I am in no mood to spend that kind of money for something which sounds so silly!!! OR is it
something i need to worry about ?

Hello pcgamer, many thanks for your reply. An update on this topic is that as I could not buy the extended warranty this late in my ownership, I've sold my Wego. Also, I've taken a leap of faith w.r.t TVS products and bought a retro Apache RTR 160.



Keeping my fingers crossed that I'll have a comparatively niggle/issue free ownership this time around. Touchwood!

Yes, the rear disc model was 3k more, plus it wasn't in stock either.

engine oil for apache RTR 160 refresh

hellloo

I have completed 4k on my apache now want to switch my engine oil from tvs tru4 premium to a better oil (semi synth) should i go for motul 5100 or volvoline or castrol power 1 which is better in reducing engine vibration in rtr .....

is fully synthetic oil should be used after 7-8k ???
