Starter motor relay, ideally it'll be 2 wires from the Right Switchgear/BCU to pin 85 and 86, 1 wire from the Battery +ve pin 30, another to the Starter motor pin 87, 5th pin 87a usually blank.Originally posted by sandwichk View PostDoes anyone have a 220 Fi with them? There are five wires connected to this relay. I want to know its wiring

Thanks. I was installing the new type relay and ripped the wires without noting down the cables. The new relay is working fine now. Also can you tell if the RH switch control of the new 220's or of the other pulsars will work with my 220 Fi? It has three connectors to it Black, Red and Green. The magnet to the contactless switch of the starter button has rusted away.Originally posted by kiran2508 View Post

No, new BS6 220 right switchgear is fully different. BS4 220 switchgear would work but not a direct plug and play, Bajaj did change the connector post 2011 bikes, so you might have to manually cut, splice and rewire accordingly.Originally posted by sandwichk View PostAlso can you tell if the RH switch control of the new 220's or of the other pulsars will work with my 220 Fi? Only good thing is Bajaj still uses standard wiring color codes which is unchanged, so it'll be easy.Bajaj SuperFE 150 - Forever in my heart

if you are unable to get the original RH switchgear, do try the one from SWISS (part #SAP-0544CA) http://www.swissautoonline.com/plist.pdfOriginally posted by sandwichk View Post

Its drivable now. Few things still need work. Completed a 12h journey on it, driving mostly at around 5k rpm. Covered 615km with 12l of fuel. Now I'm hearing this noise from the engine on idle which wasn't there before. It goes away when the engine warms up. What could it be? How much would it cost to fix it?

Hi All,
I recently had the engine reworked and needed to replace the fuel pump on my old old 220 (2007 fi). The mechanic (non Bajaj, as Bajaj SS folks were unable to help) had said in advance that it would better to convert to a carb setup due to the lack of service/spares support for the FI system. Not wanting to lose the Fi, I insisted and still went with it.
It worked well for a bit (note that I didn't ride as much due to the Covid situation), but has started having problems keeping the engine running at idle or when just rolling the bike with the throttle closed. The bike basically stalls unless there is at least some throttle input.
I know it's probably been discussed on this forum a million times, but should i finally give up and go for a carb setup. I don't use the bike often now but I still would like to be able to just step out for ride not fearing when the engine might stop running.
The other option would be to find a experienced 220Fi mechanic in another city(I'm in Hyderabad these days, so maybe one in Pune/Bangalore) and get the bike to him to see if it can be fixed, but I'm not sure if it's worth it at this point.
Any help/tips would be really welcome.

You could check with AutoService in Bangalore if they still have the tool used to tune the FI unit functional. If they do, you could have your bike shipped to them for a complete tune-up+overhaul. From the the looks of, I think the first thing to do be done would be get your idling fixed, and you need to a find a place that still has the FI Diagnostic tool in a working condition. After that if you still have the stalling issue there could be a million other possibilities from the fuel pump to even the electronic components like if the RR unit is fine, etc. But a good starting point is to check the state of tune (read the plugs), and then have the idling + CO setup done along with a check of the fuel & air filters to ensure there is nothing else contributing to this behavior.Originally posted by forcooler View Post

But the question of whether this whole thing is worth it or not is a very personal choice
PS: I think, dropping Bajaj an email to see if they would be ready to sell the diagnostic tool to an individual would be an option worth exploring as well.

Thanks Praful, as always, for providing helpful responses (since 2007 at least on this thread)!Originally posted by Praful View Post

I too think that having a working FI tuning tool would solve majority of the issue but finding it here in Hyderabad at least has not been fruitful. I will try and check plugs as that probably is the next best thing to an FI tool for an AFR check. I don't mind shipping the bike or even trying to get it started once and ride non-stop to Bangalore for service at a place which still works on 220FI's, but people/mechanics have increasingly started saying that even all that effort may not result in a very reliable motorcycle, hence thinking of giving up and getting Carb-conversion done.
Let's see, covid hasn't made things easy, need to double think every visit to a garage :-/
P.S - Did you see the Pulsar F250 launch today? Seems like a great call back to the 220 design with some new-age elements. The old stacked headlights still look better IMO though even all these years later

Carb conversion is the more practical thing to do, but for people who in today's day and age still have the OG 220 Fi, practicality isnt a word in their life ;-)Originally posted by forcooler View Post

I don't know if it is worth exploring and seeing the possibility of porting over the Fi of the current gen 220, but that maybe too expensive a cost as it might involve having to get the complete wiring harness and sensors and what not.
I saw it later, loved Rajiv Bajaj's speech and the journey of the Pulsar brand. It brought so much nostalgia for me from riding a borrowed first gen P180 in college to owning my 220!Originally posted by forcooler View Post
