  • All carb bikes will have cold start issues, it is the FI bikes which donthave cold start issues except in case of weak battery in extreme cold conditions.

I had seen many p220 dtsi and karizma[r version]having many cold start problems but small carbed bikes like shine,unicornp150,180 doesnt have cold start problems why like this???
I had seen many friends of mine owning p180's ,unicorns even in the mornings their bikes just start in a single cranck but it is not the same case in p220dtsi and karizma r

      • Yes, cold start is not a very big prob. Its jus that i am new to Karizma, never faced this in my previous bike pulsar 150.
Does the Airscrew change its setting over a period of time. Y is it necessary to tune it on every service?
The HH mechanics i tell you are least bothered about tuning it perfectly since even if they tune it the bike will not be at operating temp at that moment. So i was thinking about the fewiquick method.
And i am still unable to locate the airscrew, not mentioned in the manual too.

I have a ZMA-R which doesn't give cold start problem..If I ride sanely within 3.5Kto 4 K RPM I get 40 KMS per liter..and 33 otherwise in city. The bike is a pre-owned one and i bought it recently with 21,550 on ODO...The Air Filter had also been upgraded to a larger Paper filter, and like some have said it is the initial 1 Km when it will be sluggish and behave like having low fuel...but after the warm up, there is no problem.
One possible reason why small carb bikes don't have this problem is because of smaller Venturi giving higher Venturi velocity, pulling petrol Vapour in to the chamber with Vigor. They will also have very good initial and mid RPM response....

Do not play around with Carb setting if you don't know about carb and flow designs...you will end up wrecking the Carburetor besides bike's performance, and FE.

The air-screw does gets loose over a period of time and you many have to re-tune the bike.
The attached pic would help you locate the air-fuel mixture screw. Part 41.
This of course if not the exact carb on the ZMA, but a smaller one..

Its just a matter of few 100 meters ride with choke and the bike is back to normal.

Better to live with it than to fix somethings thats not broken
Instead of using the choke can we warm up the engine at 2-3k rpm by opening the throttle? I think if we use choke every day during warm up period it will result in more carbon deposition in the cylinder head.

yes, small engine bikes are less prone to cold starts. I think it is because they attain the normal running temperature quickly.
