  • Today i rode a Karizma R properly for quite some distance. I was really impressed by the comfort of the bike and the smooth relaxed manner of the engine. But one thing i noticed was footpeg vibration starting from as low as 4k rpm and rising more as the revs started building. There were no vibration on the handlebars. Does all the Karizmas have this footpeg vibration? Or was this for some other reason?

Yes bro kari's are known to have footpeg vibrations, but then thats all the vibration you are ever going to get. There would be no fairing, handle vibrations what so ever and even when you are pushing the bike all the way to 7k rpm. the foot peg vibrations arent that irritating that it would hamper your ride.you can happily cruise at 100+ all day long without getting bothered about them.

But mind you if you are coming from a rtr180 you would find the ride damm sedated, zma is just too relaxed and at times it gets real boring.sure its refined and would munch miles after miles but you simply dont get that rush.

When you ride on a highway for hours at a stretch, its that refinement that you want, not that rush

thats true .but having said that all those little moments when you feel like going for small speed blasts you wish that the bike was a bit more expressive.
But if its touring thats your primary motto then yes look no further.I have had my kari for now 2 years and its been worth it (except for the the outrageoulsy expensive spare parts)

How long do the parts last before they have to be replaced? Are the high prices of the parts worth it when compared to the longibility? How is the after sales of Hero Honda? The poor after sales of TVS is another reason why im looking to change.

The parts are usually are of very good quality sans the fibre,my fairing is broken ,so are the side panels (feviquick came in handy).Fibre parts again are very costly and not worth the price.other parts like brake pads and all are very good though.mine has done some 18k kms and the bite is still good.the service centre I go to does a good job but the original parts are hard to get by.I saw a totalled zma the other day when i went there the svc guy told me that its been 15 days now that the bikes been like that, cause parts arent easily available.some of the niggles that I have had are :-
1)fibres parts are very fragile and spare parts are damm costly.
2)cold start problem (trademark of zma) and some how opening the fuel lid ,putting it back and then trying to start always works for me .i know it sounds crazy.not a big issue.
3)ligts are aweful .you need to upgrade asap
4)tyres are decent its your call if you would want to upgrade to tubeless or not.
                5)horn is aweful ,upgrade imperative.
6)wish it had a bit more top end.

if you can look past all these issues then go for it eyes closed.

It is as dependable as anything out there.rest assured it would never leave you in the middle of the road stranded.

                  Completely agree with 2, 3, 4.
Whenever there is a gap of some 4+ hours between subsequent ride, bike refuses to start. I have to apply choke then. Worst case, open tank cover, put it back. It works n most of the mornings I end up doing the same.

Headlights are simply waste. Deeper hardly coves 20-30 feet distance which is dangerous in night rides even at 60kmph.

Horn is adequately loud but irritating. I like "skoda" type horns which are loud n have more bass.

I will certainly change headlamps & horns after all first 6 free services. Don't want to play with electricals in warranty period.

Off late I am facing another problem. In mornings, when I start riding, first 2-3 kms engine knocks a lot. Though I will be visiting svc, I would like to know if anybody has idea of what can be the reason?

That is true for all Indian motorcycles(barring P-220 with guys doing over 150kmph regularly, ahem)

Sold my 'zma around 1.5 yrs back and still have fond memories, thanks to its engine and suspension combo,
i am more than satisfied with my current ride but shifting into 4th gear with the speedo hovering around ~90kmph was so fun.

                          • Last night due to heavy rain water went into the tank,so i took the bike to the mech where he removed the tank and completely cleaned it.He also removed the one screw from the carb to remove water(which i think is the air/fuel screw). Then he tightened the screw completely .

Now the bike starts to vibrate alot and touches 90 on 6k in 5th gear.Is the overtightened screw causing that problem.

The bike is 5 years old and has done 23k KM.The exhaust pipe has developed a crack near the engine. Is it advisable to repair it or will i have to change it completely(how much it cost).

Instead of getting new stock exhaust system can i install some other aftermarket exhaust system like krp.

Pic used as reference only. Not my bike

The part marked is also broken. It is a metallic part on which rear brake pedal is attached.Any idea how much it costs.
