  • Problem with my friend's ZMA.

@ psr sir - 1 of my friend, who is not on xbhp as he is not that much of internet savvy at all.....has wobbling problem with his zma....please read below his problem and suggest some remedy -

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Problem with my ZMA.

First my front portion of the bike (front tyre rather)wobbled .
I got dat fixed by Yesu a mechanic near to my flat..
He did the dynamic balancing of the rear tyre(whixh was just finding on which part of the rear tyre there was an out nd adjusting the weights on the rim accordingly to stabalize the tyre-rotation).

I Explored nd found that the possible remedies are..

    Get swing-arm checked.
    get the tyres refittted.
get new set of t-cone bearings..(costs round Rs200).
    Alignment of the forks
Proper tightning of the tyre to axels.
    refilling the oil in suspensions.

    Please suggest solution .

The problem is now solved but I now experience my rear end of the bike going like a fish-tail at speeds from 30-60..like I am riding on sand or something like dat…However not found below 30 nd above 65.

ABNV, there is no info on the Kms run, type of tires used and their present condition....The most common problems for wobble are:
      1. Tires uneven tread...
      2. Bend in the wheel
      3. Wheel bearing worn out
      4. Swing arm bushes worn
      5. Shock absorbers bad
Check in the order and your friend will be able to get the problem fixed...
I am assuming the bike had not met with any accident .

@ psr sir - thanks fr your prompt reply.

#total run is about 7000kms (bike is exactly 5 months old, 1st hand)
#tyres - stock , perfect condition (has got a single puncture in rear tyre till date)
#no accident till date (not even a stand still fall)
... will convey your suggestion to him, lets see what he has to say.

If it is a new bike then he should not have any of this problem...but check for swing arm freeze due to lack of lube...Best to loosen the swing arm nut and take out the bolt and lube the swing arm bushes with good bearing grease, and refit it properly....

Regarding oil filling in rear shocks, it must be inspected and needful done by the Shock Absorber reconditioning people only.
Regarding GRS some have nitrogen, and others plain air(which contains78% nitrogen)......There is a nipple on the canister which is used for checking the pressure inside and re-filling if required...The A.S.S. will have the proper tools to do the same.....at least most Bajaj A.S.S.have

All gas filled shocks have nitrogen fill..unless it is attended by outsiders.....Nitrogen is used both in shock dampers and in tires because they are DRY gas..........Air contains 78% nitrogen ,and also moisture which sometimes lead to rim rusting in tubeless tires. With Aluminum Alloy wheels this does not occur.

                      • PSR,
i have been facing issues of water in my carb for the past 3-4 days. i drained the carb, drained the tank, cleaned the fuel cock and im pretty sure most of the water has gone, but the bike jerks occasionaly during slow rides.ibut it has no proiblem with high revs.should i adjust the a/f screw? if so, which direction makes ratio high/low?

If there are no air leaks and air filter is good, then check carb jets for contamination. When the brass of jets come in contact with water a thin coating of oxide forms on the jet reducing the jet size...so take it out, DRY them and look out for WHITISH coating on jets...if it is there you will have to scrape it away with wire brush...
The afr screw is normally set at 4 FULL turns anti clockwise after GENTLY turning it Clockwise till it stops...Read the plug for getting the correct AFR. Light tan color is the ideal setup.
Turning the AFR screw clockwise makes the mix LEAN, and turning it ANTI CLOCKWISE makes it RICH...go half turn at a time and ride test for 50Kms before a plug inspection.

                              • Today, I went in search of good headlamps in my locality, phew! not even a single shop could find some decent range of products. Asked about 55/60w bulb, was offered TVS! (may be Lucas TVS) . Philips they had only in 100w and above. Disappointed and returned home.

Couple of changes are in pipeline for my new bike:

                                1. Change the stock headlamp to better lighting - Philips (not sure which one)
                                2. Replace engine scoop with crash guard - CBZ Xtreme
                                3. Battery - Amaron 9 ah.
                                4. Better horn to reduce brake-and-go ride. (Need inputs)
                                5. Better tyres - Michelin's

Since there is a good chance of southwest monsoon casting shadow rain in Chennai, desperately looking for bike cover to protect.
