Hmmm... You must be talking about the Overdrive show thats aired on CNBC.. Well, it was just a passing comment by Shireen Bhan there. She didn't mention any timeline, but did say its coming soon. All she said was that they will have the road-test once the upgraded R15 is out.
I think what they meant by upgraded R15 was the 'R15 fitted with the racing kit', coz they would have recorded the show before the racing kit was launched on 26-Jun (last Friday)...
& now that the racing kit has been launched, I have my serious doubts that Yamaha will launch an upgraded R15 (performance-wise) for the roads.. Although, I'm expecting a couple of cosmetically upgraded ones from Yamaha (new colours, graphics etc.)..

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

They are too good.. Very luminous.. Paid 20 bucks for a pair..

Yahh! definitely, i was talking about that show only.. Yes she did said that they will give the coverage in a week or two... That performance kit is something which Yamaha will be keeping it as after product sales for the racing enthusiast.. The engine and power will be the same.. except for simple tweak here and there.. for the complains lodge by so many people. I would want Yamaha not to do over do their current bike. Just few changes here and there and giving it a fresh look and please no indian designers.. they all sucks.. otherwise they will add lot of graphics which they call refresh. I just want them to concern on the complains and tweening of performance here and there. Also the quality should be in tact without price rise coz i am sure they have the new pulsar 220 DTSI in their mind. Its been one years.. we need something refreshing.. but not with the performance kit. I still love the R15 with the same 17bhp

          • @All: What is the drain interval for the Yamalube semi-synth oil? Has anyone used it for 5K kms.?

@Pune guys: Is there any Yamaha SVC close to Viman Nagar in Pune where I can pick up an air filter for my R15?

              ------------------------------------------------

              Engine: [Rating: ****]
To recall, one year back all of us had expected lot from this mill and many of us were disappointed after knowing the specs, 17PS@8,500 RPM (I still remember how shattered I was when I got the message at 10 PM on 11th June from Akhil aka rossiter.) But to be honest 17PS from 150 CC mill is pretty good considering the weight and everything. After riding it for 1 year extensively every where (except track, very embarrassed to say this because this bike is built for track but cant help, I am not so rich to drive down to Chennai and ride on track each time I wish) this engine never disappointed me. Have done the maximum mileage in city and its not that bad. Forgot the 6th gear in city and you will enjoy every part of this bike in city. Never does the engine dies even if you ride in high gear at low speed even though it struggles a bit.Now lets talk about its highway characteristics, the 150 cc mill pump enough power to keep the bike in triple digits with no stress and not to mention the 6th gear which is a boon. More later.

              Build: [Rating: ***]
The first impression i got was superb but this has changed now. The fiber parts are pretty good but rust, paint chipping are common problems faced by many owners this is not acceptable for a 1L + bike. Rating i am begin generous I guess.

              Gearbox: [ Rating: ****]
Flawless, no false neutral post 1st service, at times it gets hard but I guess it something to do with the clutch adjustment.

              Performance: [ Rating: ****1/2]
A lot has been debated on this I am not going to write more about this but I wish to tell, this is the best 150 CC bike in our current market, technology vise and the power and torque it generates for its CC. If you disagree, show me one bike which which generates more power in this category and please do consider the power to weight ratio.

              Ride & Handling:[Rating:*****]
This part deserves a 5 star, best handler anything close which comes is a RTR everything else is blown in front of it. Doesn't matter who is riding the bike it handles the same, with a pillion of 80 KG I never feel taking a corner at 90+, the confidence you get is priceless. Many complain about the suspension but for some reason I am happy with it may be its because of my weight[]. And a lot have been debated about the sporty posture, with no second thought in my mind I can say if the roads are descent one can ride it for 450+ kms in a day without taking a toll on their body.

              Breaking: [Rating:*****]
No doubt its a king in breaKING, this bike has such a beautiful brakes which stop where you want to stop not even a inch more than that. Trust me I am not exaggerating. Only pain you will get is when you are paying for the break pads

              Tyres: [Rating: ****]
I still remember when "Yamaha officials had said, don't get disappointed looking at the skinny tyres, they stick like glue", this is so true but there is something missing there, slush. Apart from slush this tyre can take anything. Had three punctures till now but I am very happy considering the places I have taken it. And the MRF S can last more than 18k easily.

              Electrical: [Rating: ****]
3.5 A battery which runs ECU, 1 60/55 w, 1 35/35 w and 1 5 w bulb. Helmets off to all the guys who have worked on it. No electrical failures till now, (yes no fuse problem ). Lights suck for touring, a good upgrade would be to get HID's from here if you have enough resources else we always can install 60/55w on one side, which I have done. I will be soon upgrading to HID though.

              Mileage:
              In City - 38+ kmpl
              Highway- 43+ kmpl
I have taken the average till date.

              Service:
Ok, to be frank, Bangalore Wheels did pretty good job, big thanks to Akhil here without which my bike wouldn't have got those special treatments. Yamaha have give us a beautiful machine, it has not given a single problem till now, so far good but when I think about Akhils R1 I feel petty about my self. But I have found a [secret]solution to it. But at times they have annoyed me a lot, its same with all the manufactures I guess.

A small tribute for my R15

                • Guys , today I saw a red-white painted yamr15 (in Pune) , labelled as r25 , dual free flow exhausts.

The red and white colour is definitely the best. Does it belong to anyone here?

Mine is painted that way, but no false pretentions & no dual exhaust.

Wasn't RED-WHITE a std thing as in BLUE-WHITE which is listed in yamaha site wallpaper. If I remember correctly I've seen at least one Red R15 with Red and White fairing as we have in Blue R15. This Red-White was the best I've seen so far on R15.

Recently I've seen White R15 with Red stripes on fairing, red front mud guard and red at rear in one pic in new FAZER news thread. So I guess, Yamaha is launching new colors.

Ya ya ya...I was there when they took the kit bikes out.
Then Mr Srikandaraja and some other Nationals rider took out the R15s on the track.
After the ride they came on to the stage and explained what they felt. It seems there were 2 speced bikes, one with RPM limiter at 12000 and another with lower limit. Sproketing and all were matching with the ECU/Rev range...
Srikandaraja said said he reached 155 KMPH and felt the bike can go more..
Now 155 KMPH on the MMSC track on an R15 is

                              • @DASCO - Sri was talking about speedo indicated figs and as all us track-goers know, he is super at exaggerating figures. My friend who is a reporter claimed to have clocked 140kph on the same track. He weighs just 53 kilos and is as capable as sriskandarajah.

@sk8er - Thats the master cylinder reservoir. In the evn of a crash, it just flexes away and saves the system. Its used on all race bikes,
