  • 5000 or 7000 RPM

its sometimes difficult to be heard when the old timers on this forum are driving a discussion.

My Bike is 300 km old, rests @1500 RPM on cold start a little around 1600 RPM on a regular start.

    1. I tend to ride it at 5500 - 6500 RPM regularly, change gears at 4000 - 4500 RPM, is this good or should i go back to the 5000 RPM limit and change gears around 3000 - 3500 RPM ?
    2. What is the optimum run-in standard to get the best out of the R15 engine ?
    3. The bike gives a strange high frequency sound when i back it up ? is this usual ?

    • Well this news may already be out.. but here's what I came to know today..

Got my R15 serviced today.. 5th Service. Close to 9000 kms clocked.
When I asked the Service centre guy(who's a very good friend of mine) about the performance kit(when's it gonna come out), he told me the kit will be here by next week definitely. When asked more bout it he said it'll only include the circuit changes/upgrades and the power will be 21bhp. Asked him bout the price but as he didnt have correct info about it, he didn't tell me any figure instead of blindly speculating. I also asked him that a vid is already out showing Daytona developing the perf kit for R15 including wave discs, exhaust changes etc. He said as far as he knows(and he was quite sure, it's a very reputed service centre) only circuit changes will be there increasing the power to 21bhp as mentioned.

Whatever it is.. am quite excited bout the performance kit. Bring it on Yamaha.

Let me take the liberty of quoting Sarvajit here, to answer questions 1 &2:

Kept the gear shifts at same RPM. After 2K kms., full ripping in every gear. Now my engine is butter smooth. Though for city ideal gear shift would be around 5-6, sometimes when I'm in the mood, I redline her in all the gears!
There are some members here, who have not done a run-in as strict as Sarvajit has.. riazmomin being 1 of them.. & i quote him too :

then 100kmph when it was 150kms old. And overall ripping started only after 2000kms

Question 3: Not sure what you're referring to!

Try opening and closing the tank lid, this should fix the high frequency noise

here is a pic of the rubber piece that is missing, see the marking:

Dude... Keep to what Manual says till 500km. I had ripped her at 8k rpm 122kmph when she was 750 kms old. I'm still running good with her.
                  And God said, "Let there be light" and there was HID Kit. And God saw that the light was good;

In a bid to finding out what rubber part you were talking about, I'm screwed. I had gone downstairs to check, and accidentally removed the rubber stopper on my bike..... Its actually like a stopper, to prevent the caliper housing from moving on the mount thingy.....

I dunno how I'm going to put it back..... I've removed the assembly, but the mount on which the caliper sits (the mount is the thing that holds it to the fork legs) is too big to remove and do anything. And the rubber is oversize, so its not going in from the outside.....

                    Anyways, lets see.....
                    You get the point?? :D

sorry man.i guess the whole assembly has to be removed and the rubber thing got to be fixed. I'll try to make it to the SS sometime soon.

Hey, what are you apologising for?

Its a good thing I opened it. Took apart the entire thing, cleaned the unit, cleaned the housing and mainly cleaned the pads...... Brake bite is top-notch now!!

                              Hello Evryone,

Thsi is Vinay from bangalore, and im new to thsi forum as well as the biking community, I bought my first bike the blue YZF-r15 from Orion bangalore on 14 may09 this being my first bike i have some questions and i beleive this is the correct place to go for it.

1.The chain makes a weired sound , i got the chain lubed still the same. The show room guy says since its an open chain it tends to happen ...is there any way i could prevent it.?..i have read about the motul chain cleaner and lube some where in the forum is taht teh solution for this?

2.I cannot rev the bike to see a three digit figure the entire throttle finshes at 96kmph with 6.5 k RPM, im not able to figure out if im accelerating it the wrong way ny suggestions to help me see a three digit figure...could there be some thing wrong with the engine which i need to check?

                                1) The chain, even when lubed makes a noise when it gets wet. Let it run for some 15kms and the noise will disappear. That is if the lubing is done correctly. Both sprockets need to be cleaned and lubed as well as the chain. And do check if its tight. A tight chain also makes noise.

                                2) I did'nt get that. You mean you're not able to cross 96kmph at 6.5k rpm? I mean thats the maximum speed and engine rpm you are able to achieve? In what gear? How many kms has the bike run?

Check the throttle cable, it might be getting stuck. Other than this I cant determine what could be wrong......
