In case it is deep, you might have to replace your front tire. If it isn't a puncture guy specializing in tube-less tire punctures shall help you out.

A foot pump costs Rs. 400 odd and is worth investing.
    Thanks Sheel!

The cut seemed superficial, and there was a small hole, from the air was leaking. But I'm afraid of the rubber coming off by a few inches, i mean its not just a hole. Will that be okay, even after applying a patch?

Also, any ideas about how such a cut cud have happened?

Was going through the earlier pages of this very long thread, where some suggested purchasing a tubeless tyre puncture repair kit. How much does it cost, where can I get it. Ebay?

    Will this do http://cgi.ebay.in/Car-Bike-Auto-Tub...item19c0ae449d

    • What is the cost of good quality HIDs??? And the perfect voltage and brand for this bike??? And i also heard that it is against the traffic rules that HID are used on bikes....is it true?
Fun begins only after 6K rpm.....!

Yes, i don't push my bike too much, the max she does this days would be hardly 70KMPH. Did i tell you, i got 46Kmpl mileage this week ?

I had replaced my rear also a few thousand kms ago. It was getting frequently punctured & it too had a cut on the inside. This with normal city riding, very occassional long trips & 1 track day. At that time also the stock tyre was not available. 48k on stock tyres is phenomenal. Maybe Ive had bad luck with my stock tyres.

HAd to replace the sprockets & the chain also. Got the cone set & the swingarm greased. Air filter was also cleaned. Bike feels good as new.
My friends with R15 had to change their tyres at 20K, so i can see anything more than 25K is awesome and yes, my sprockets and chain is also due for a change, so time to shell out RS: 5K . Any ideas if continental gives 2 year warranty even on 2 wheel tyres ? Also how is the grip while cornering, i am planning to go for a highway trip of somewhere around 1500Kms, so just want to make sure they are good. Also how are they compared to stock ?

        Thanks.

I used to have this sound on my bike, for me it was because there was chain slack and the sprockets were weak. Its disappeared now that Ive replaced the entire set.

The continental comes with a 1 year warranty. I bought it from Sai Iyengar tyres for Rs 1450.
The grip is quite good for in-city day to day riding. I havent taken it out on the highway or tried out any cornering yet (need a track day for the latter). In the rains I havent really felt any change as such. That being said, pushing it to the extremes (like a trackday, emergency braking etc would bring out the differences with the stock front (if any) but honestly Im happy with this. With your usage, this should suffice very very well if you dont get your hands on the stock tyre.

          • Guys, is there any way I could plug a phone charger to my R15, While I'm touring sometimes the battery dies and folks at home get worried, so I'm thinking to get one if its possible. Also I wanted to know about the hidden engine kill switch, Where can I get it done in New Delhi? and How much would it cost?

Just mix some soap water in a mug, put the bike on main stand, over inflate to 40-45psi, and pour soap water in small quantities over the tire surface, at the valve, and all along the tire-rim seat. Wherever you see froth/bubbles, air's leaking from there! Foolproof method!

Got one question, the mech left the air-box lid open. He said "I've installed K&N on many R15's saaar. Dont put the lid on, could damage the engine" Other R15'ers with k&N installed, please elaborate on your setups.

              P.S. - I paid Rs.1890/- for the filter(MRP).
I think you should install the top cover back. The scoop thing on the cover speeds up the airflow, so its kinda a ramming effect. Also I would recommend you run it, and check your plug to see if its running lean. Otherwise go to any known PUC testing center and test your O2. That'll give you a rough idea of lean/rich mixture.

Unfortunately its not as simple as a setting. A lot depends on the ambient condions. So we have to figure out a way of measuring fuelling and individually setting it for each bike, in different locations.

I don't want the battery to drain out so I'm thinking to leave my Bike at a Friend's so that he can start the Engine for some time 2-3 times a Week to keep the juice intact. Please advice

well, i've been out for 15 days at a stretch, the battery being a maintenance free one, didn't cause any trouble at all...
the bike started in one crank, without any problems whatsoever..
just that it felt a bit rough..the 2nd service being due then could have been a reason for the roughness...
after the service, the bike is normal...
what i'm trying to say is that i don't think there should be much problem keeping the bike idle that long..just find a good parking, preferably under shelter, cover the bike to protect it from dust, cats spoiling the seat, people fiddling with it, etc.
i would suggest not to give it to anybody..for obvious reasons..

that, crack is huge, and can seriously compromise your safety. take your tyre to MRF dealer asap and claim warranty ( dont tell them its a cut , just tell them the tyre cracked and let them find the reason ). normally MRF tyre comes with 3yr warranty (at least when i purchased i got 3yr warranty against manufacturing defect) and if they agree to change it under warranty its good otherwise buy a new tyre.never compromise on the tyre .

yeah, about that, the first time i lubed the chain, the characteristic 'chain sound' did come...
but never came after that, even when the chain was almost dry, no noise came from the chain..
(used motul chain spray the first, 2nd time..
used yamaha one this time, still no noise..)
i hope that doesn't point to an incorrect chain slack or something although it had been serviced the same day as lubed.. good riddance though

Egg-xactly, the sound is a bit louder when freshly lubed and decreases with time. It irritates me a lot. Will check the slackness tomorrow and report.

As for the phone charger, I've seen pics of it being installed on an RTR (xbhp member's bike) and that's it. Apart from that 1 guy no one has tried to do that, no one even asks about info to do so. In my opinion it is a good and useful modification for a tourer, I'd do so if I had something else than a 15. On the 15, electrical mods are a strict no-no scenario for me.

Why don't you keep a spare battery aside fully charged up for a battery dying emergency?

As for the hidden kill switch, You are thinking of getting it to avoid having to give test rides to other people na? I'd say don't go for it either, it being an electrical modification. If you're thinking about getting the kill switch due to safety reasons, I'd suggest a heavy chain locking up your bike's alloys in place.

I have these HIDs with a halogen bulb setup. Its got a halogen low beam and an HID high beam. I want to make the HIGH beam in the left side light up and not the halogen low beam. What do I do for that? The same relay technique? I have attached a pic of my HID bulb. ITS NOT A BI-XENON. Its only got the high beam as the HID, the low beam, the halogen switches on. I bought these for varied reason, but now, in the low beam, the halogen switches on, and its not BRIGHT :P Can you suggest some alternative? Don't wanna buy new bulbs..
I've tested a few single beams on my bike but not these types so I'm not sure how they're built (if they have separate wires for halogen and HID or just one pair)

You'll need to check the wiring to see which wires light up the halogen (read above again :P) and re-route them to the high setting on the H4 socket.

If you have seen the H4 Socket. There are two positives for the left beam and 1 negative whereas the Right beam has 1 positive and negative. Therefore if you switch the connection you should get HID is low, But 'maybe' halogen in high.

The three wires are on the Left side are Black (Negative), Green (Positive, High Beam) Yellow (Positive, Low)

Hehe, I thought so. I get 40-42 with quite a bit of hard riding and this has been quite consistent through out.

Conti won't compare to the stock tyre's level of grip but for your usage it will serve you well.

It's not necessary to carry a spare. I've drained my battery before and jumped started the bike and 2 mins of idle time and you can switch off and thumb the starter again. Riding it for a while recharges up the battery to normal levels very quickly on the R15. It's a no frills bike actually. And the easiest to jump start. You could sit on the bike normally as you would and push it with your legs and jump start it.

Btw, Density of air decreases with the increase in altitude.

I was just about to go and get a patch applied on the tyre at the cracked spot, now I'm reconsidering.

Another day of those darn autos i guess

Edit: Just went to the local tyre puncture shop. The guy honestly said that a patch wont fix it, a replacement is needed. [the chap didnt try to fib me - there is honesty in this world!] . I guess the front tyre costs around Rs1000. Will try gettin it replaced under warranty over the weekend, else will just buy a new one. Tough luck.

Rode the bike back home after filling air - felt so darn good after a week - the feel of the bike is superlative!
