^^ since the bike is shutting down or not starting properly, i would suggest get them checked now. And check oil level also.

Is the compression of the bike ok? when the engine is hot, does the kick have the characteristic back kick??

Quick question regarding tire pressures: When one says they fill 30/35 psi of pressure in the tires, is that when the tires are still cold, or after they have reached normal operating temperature?

In my car, the sticker clearly states that the pressure is ~28-30 when cold.

I checked it once after a stint on the highway and it was around 40...hence the question above.

tyre pressure are rated cold. Unless specified.

small question

hey guys.

i have a small question. that my electra has done only 200 km up till now. n today when i came office i noticed that top part of silencer which is connected to the engine is looking little Golden. can any one help me why this is happening. is there any serious problem..

Check and retune the carb ....It MIGHT b due to the an improper carb tuning.... BTW. Is that a permanent discoloration or temporary?

o you mean it might be a serious problem? and i don't know this golden thing is permanent or temporary. i saw this today morning first time.

^^ discoloration of the chrome generally means a hot exhaust. So since your bike is in run -in phase it could be possible, but still get your bike checked once. and if possible post a pic here.

Same here . Have a Std 350 ..220 KMs till now and my exhaust too is golden at the same spot mentioned by Mani.
My engine was a bit fast and tuned it to a steady beat (with help of a mechanic).

I hope its not a serious problem.

Hi, as per Pete Snidal's manual, it's ok if a little bit of silencer is discoloured: 1-2 inches. More than that, or if the discolouration is severe (blue/ purple): Get it checked.

@jd666: thanks for the reply - i will get it checked. Yes, getting the back-kick properly. Engine backfires at times too, while starting hot.

hi friends,

i wanna really thank you guys for replying n sharing.
i have done around 300 km on my electra. this week will get first service. and yes about the golden thing on silencer, its not like close to engine or 1 or 2 inches. this golden-brown thing starts after 2 inches where its connected to engine.. n it covers around 5-6 inches. looks kind of patchy.
i just called the dealer shop, he if its some kind of brown colour then its okay. its getting heat because the engine is set a bit faster for run-in. but yes if it turns blue then its wrong. and we will claim the company to replace the silencer. lets see what happens next.

over all feeling is great. on riding bull. now i m getting used to this enging sound. because first 2 two days i had solid headache just after riding it for like 15 minutes. now i like her sound and vibes

yes i am getting very low milage like 22 bt i think its because i m riding in traffic (rush-hour). i think no need to tell about Andheri Traffic. right

Same here dude. My Std 350 too has the same coloring and the engine is set a bit fast for run-in. The Mechanic told that after the first service things will settle.
But one concern is that my Std backfires at times. When I am driving at say 30kmph and then I close the throttle completely, the engine backfires. Also after starting the bike if I race the engine, then while coming back to idling the engine backfires, (putt putt) sound comes. Again the Mechanic said that it's alright. Was concerned about this. Hope after first service everything settles in.
Also my drive to office is through traffic (passing Sion

i am going for first service this Sunday. will see what happens. but yes i am little worried about this coloring silence. i don't know is its going to stay with us or what

and friend about your bike's backfires, i read somewhere on site, same problem with some senior member and he solved that. he said some valve is missing from some part. (really sorry i forget the name) so he fixed that backfire problem in 5-10 Rs.
i will try to find that link. if i do, I'll send it to you.

hey one more thing Do you have any idea what mileage r u getting. or what mileage we should from these new bullets. i think i am getting in between 22 to 27. i guess it is because i m driving in traffic.

Thanks a lot man. Regarding mileage, have not checked. It does not make sense to check during run-in where you are riding in lower gears. I guess it should fall between 27-33 after first service. In highways might be 35.

For now just enjoy the ride and then Thump
