my question. 14Ah is the current rating of the battery. it means that it can supply 14Amps in 1 Hour. but does it mean that it will supply 14Amps even if there is no demand? depending on this answer i can answer your question.

Iam planning for a dual beam on my bike, so i need a bigger battery.

If the fuses are not fine, you wont be able to honk even while revving.. (and if your bike is one of the new models, you wont be able to start also).
Looks like a problem with the R&R (rectifier and regulator) as your mechanic has said. If thats also fine, get the battery itself checked.

I was thinking of a battery change for my P220. I somewhere read that Bullets have 14Ah batteries . Is this true? If so where is the possible place from where i can find one? Also how much does the battery cost?

        Thanks,

          Hi All

I took my bike from showroom on October 7th 2009.

          THUMP:

If i hate some thing in my bike that is going to be only the Exhaust note. Sound like diesel auto for me .

          POWER ,PICKUP:

It defintely feels powerful and quick (RE Standards) but i am not gonna rip it till i complete 2k kms. so no comments righ now.

          LIGHTS :

Less than adequate.Planning to upgrade to halogen Bulb provided it wont void the warranty.

          MILEAGE / FUEL ECONOMY

I completed 390 kms till now after filling 10 ltrs on the day i took the bike from showroom.Till now it has not come to reserve.Showroom guy told me bike is filled with 1 Ltr. So Mileage calculation with current condition 11 Ltrs, 380 kms, 2 ltrs reserve fuel .So 390kms/9ltrs = 43.33 km/ltr(not yet reserve)

          COMFORT

I think its bit tough to handle it in city traffic but i feel its very comfy in highways

          EXTRA FITTINGS DONE:

I fitted Paramount crash guard,Roots Horn and a Helmet lock.

          PROBLEMS FACED AND ACTIONS TAKEN
          1. The problem of Fuel indicator is solved. After running for 100+ kms it automatically started working.Earlier Fuel guage was showing full tank when the tank had only 1 ltr.
          2. Idling was adjusted as the RPM was high even when throttle was not given during the gear shifts, after tuning it the feel changed a lot.It feels much better.

          PLANNED UPGRADES:
          • Lights are less than adequate.Planning to upgrade to halogen Bulb provided it wont void the warranty. Inputs needed
          • Thinking about HELLA fog lamp too.Inputs needed
          • Thinking of changing the front tyre.(Same pattern as of the rear tyre)
          • Avenger rear view mirrors.
          • ABS
          • Have to name my bird
          Request your inputs!!!!!

            • got my first paid service done - Thankfully not on a R E showroom / service center.

Changed Engine Oil - Castrol 20 W 50 - Bike feels a lot smooth, Better than company provided oil.

Changed the Rear Breakshoes - And the usual oil filter / air filter and gearbox oil

Planning to change the gaskets soon, The only problem is to open the engine head and then change the gaskets which by itself will take a lot of man hours!

Also, The 7000K HID Bulb needs to go - Would be swapping up with a 4300K soon.. Change of tyres / double side saree guard / extra foam for the seats would be done sometime next month

                • Does the Mechanics still use Castrol GTX 20W50 Oil with 1/3 filled with SAE 90 Gear Oil For "Thump" ?Some Mechanics do so with CI Engines.I am not aware whether it is bad to the Engine.
                  Get GNU/Linux

                  • Dont ever mix different oils. it just doesnt work that way. the 90W gear oil is suitable for slower moving components like the gear box, chain etc. just stick to castrol 20W50.

I dont think that the thump is in any way related to thump. change the exhaust if you want thump.

P.S. i have noticed that a slightly rich mixture gives a deeper thump and a good low end tourque. give it a try.

                      • Anyone fitted a larger capacity fuel tank on their REs yet? I was thinking of switching to a 25 lt one with knee pads (INR 2300). Also, some models come with a grill, but don't know what use they have. Does a bigger tank affect the dynamics of the bike in any way?

Can knee pads be fitted on an Electra's tank?

                        • I got my first service done on thursday. I was surprised to see my speedometer showing just 4kms. when enquired they told me that the speedometer is replaced due to the fault. Bike felt a lot smoother and free after the first service.Bill came to Rs 645.

I took it for a short Long ride(60kms) to 24/ 7 Barista in Mysore road and what i observed is.Bike was comfortable up to 70kmph and after that it struggled to reach 80kmph with a pillion rider.I dint rip the bike but just followed nandans instruction to run in the bike.

I never crossed 60kmph during the first 500kms. After the first service,In the ride i maintained within 45kmph to 60 kmph. Then i went to 70kmph for 20 seconds and came back to 60kmph .Maintained 50 -60 kmph for 2 to 3 mins and then again went to 70 kmph for 20 seconds. Did this 5 times and tried to do the same in 80kmph too. but the bike is not comfortable crossing 70 kmph. it atleast takes 10 seconds to reach 80kmph from 70 kmph.

                          Is this normal?????

Absolutely - the Royal Enfield is a bike meant for leisurely watching the sun go down, not to see the scenery blazing past. I think 60-70 kmph is the ideal speed for the bullet on the highway. Anything beyond 80 leads to unpleasant vibrations which transfers from the engine to the handlebars. I would say that 80 kmph is the ideal speed for the Indian 350, be it the cast iron or AVL aluminum version. Can't say about the new UCE construction ones, though.

During your run-in period, try not to do high speeds for long periods of time. 10-15 second bursts are ok, but generally try and keep it at 50 or so.

yeah i understand that.I am not constantly doing highspeeds. As mentioned in the user manual i am keeping the speed under 70kmph after 1st service and very occassionaly i touch 80/90kmph for 10-20seconds. Also i dont maintain the same speed(within 70kmph) for a long time. I make sure i vary the speed from 50kmph to 70kmph.

My speedometer probelm with fuel guage still persists. i have done 400 kms after filling 14.5 lts after 1st service. But fuel gauge still shows full tank. have to get it checked when i take it to the servie station to adjust the chain(TBTS has to be checked for chain tension once in 1000kms)

Apart from this i dont have any problem. I think the little noise which comes from the engine is normal for all the TBTS/AVL engines
