  • Hi friends,

I am new to xBhp. I was going through this wonderful forum. Thanks friends for sharing your valuable suggestions to the fellow RE owners or bike enthusiasts. You are doing a wonderful Job.

To all the Bullet Guru's and xBhpians,

I have booked a RE Classic 350cc Black at Hyderabad (Erragadda Showroom) on 28 -Sep-2010. I was shocked to hear that i was given a 6-8 months waiting period when i booked my Bull. Please give me some details about the bike like performance, maintenance and Pros and Cons of the bike. I was in love with the RE right from my childhood but couldn't afford to buy one. Now that i am earning on my own i have decided to fufill my dream by going ahead and booking the Bull ! Friends spare some time with me in providing some insight about the Bull i booked i would be more than Happy with any kind of info provided to me.

My rides include like Pulsar 180 cc (Present), Honda Shine (Present), Bajaj Boxer (Sold). But never i have ridden a Bull before so thats why i am tensed.

Also friends forgot to say that i would be riding daily 70 kms in the city during peak traffic hours. So is it advisable to commute daily with the Bull.

    Cheers !!
    Bobby !!

Possibly yes. If so, then it's for additional protection. Might be a little pain if it blows on road, cause you will need to remove the seat to replace it, then.

Remove the fuse & check whether all electricals fail or only ignition parts (read coil, points etc.)fail.

      Will wait for your observation.
      Hi Caravans,
I had taken out the fuse and checked - all electricals go dead when it is removed. I looked at the wiring diagrams in the Owner's Manual. There is no mention of this fuse. There are a bunch of wires which come from the front, routed under the petrol tank and then go under the seat. The fuse wires go inside that bundle.
This pic taken from left side, near the battery cover. You can see the fuse box standing upright.
One day when I have nothing better to do, I might decide to do a surgery on the wiring and solve the mystery.

        Hi,
I too had the same problem. Solved today morning.
I have a STD 350 (Dec 09 model). Was going to Pune on Sat and the same fuse (under the seat) was blown out at Uran Bypass Toll Naka. Searched for a mechanic and got it replaced after 2 hrs. It happened when I switched the parking lights (2 small bulbs over the headlight). Reached Pune that night. In the morning did the same thing and again the fuse was blown. Same one. Changed it myself (have a spare in the fuse under toolbox).
Today morning took it to my mechanic. He checked the wiring under the rear wheel mudguard. The wires were bruised and the plastic covering had come off. Hence sometimes when the wire touched the fuse was getting hit. Got the wiring fixed and taped it well. Hoping the problem is solved (this is what the mechanic says). Also hope this solves the jerks that the bike used to give at times.
This fuse is connected to the wires that work in DC like parking lights.

        Hope this helps you.

Keep us posted on your progress.

        Regards,
        Subu.

Subushady's observation testifies everytime he switched on the tiger lamps, this fuse blew. These lamps are connected from the main-switch / combination switch that draws power from the ignition switch contact C1 (that comes after the Ignition sw. in the circuit) via the ammeter.

But my concern is, if even the horn fails when this fuse blows (& the horn is from the contact C2 which is directly after the toolbox fuse onway to the ignition switch, i.e before the sw), then presumably no power is reaching the ignition switch from the battery when this fuse fails. So is the fuse in between battery & sw ?

Noway is it in ignition coil line from C1 cause then, lights & horns won't have failed. Only there would be no spark from the plug. But this is not the case.

My view is this fuse is for additional battery protection. And if so, could be done away with direct shorting, cause another protection already exists in the tool box.

            Now your take.

            The fuse

            • Suggestions plz!!!

Hi!!! I finally found a second hand Enfield for myself

Its a Thunderbird, 50th Anniversary edition, 2005 model, only and only done 3000Km (No its not tampered , 100% sure on that) , for Rs.60,000.
Condition is good, it has to be as its hardly been driven, electric start, disc brakes, fog lamps. So should I go for it, as in the price is justified???

Hi Ankit, check inside the toolbox covers, under the chassis and mudguards, near the joints for rust. Check the chain, too. You will need to replace the battery, tyres and tubes (unless they have been changed in the last 2 years). That's 4.5-5 k. Plus the mandatory oil change and servicng. That will be 1-1.5 k. I don't know if there will be any other major expense. 55 k would have been a correct price, but 60k seems ok since she has run so less and is well maintained. (I assume that is indeed so).

                  • Headlight bulb connection

                    Hi people, need help.
The 'boy' at the accessory shop connected the headlamp wires wrongly to the bulb. Since all the three terminals of the bulb are of the same size (I wonder who came up with the brilliant idea to make them like that), I don't know which wires go to which terminal. I am attaching a photo here. Can you please, please tell me how to connect the wires (orange - neutral, blue - high beam and green - low beam) to the correct terminals.
The motorcycle is CI STD, and the bulb is Philips R2 40/45W.

i need your advice on my below issues brother!!,
i got my 2010 RE 350STD CI with RHS gears..on 05.10.10 and i hv done abt 2800kms as of now.. and completed 2 free services.. the problem with my bike is it demands for choke each time i start it, if it is stopped 4 more than an hour or so.. it is giving a mileage about an avg 30km/ltr... for my riding style(i usually ride it at 50-60s...) hw to increase the mileage little more...? i'm not expecting it more than 35... 2ndly i have fixed a mat at the back just for sound for the same stock silencer(i hv nt changed it to shortbottle one).. will it affect its performance in any way?...

                          awaitng ur reply... Mahesh.

I am not very sure, but then a disc brake setup would set you back by somewhere around 5K, including installation. But then I would request some others to put some light onto this & to verify this information.

About the thump, you can go in for a short bottle silencer, as was available on old models. There are two types available, the first one being the normal one with cannons inside to absorb the high frequency noises. The sound from such silencers will be lesser, & more bearable (soothing, but this is just my personal preference).

The other type is the one in which there are either no obstructions (in the form of cannons or mufflers) to the passage of the exhaust gases or they are lesser. Most people in the markets don't know the reason for them to be empty except for making loud noise, but then such silencers will also act as a free flow exhaust. Mind you, these silencers cannot be called "free flow" per se, but they would act the same way. But, a big BUT, if you plan on going in for these, you will need to rejet the bike. With such silencers, the volumetric efficiency of your engine would increase, or in simpler terms, it would breathe easier now & so more air, but then the engine still gets the same amount of petrol. So the end result is a leaner mixture, & you have problems. So, you need to correct it, which is done by rejetting.

NOTE: Any exhaust change would usually invite an adjustment in the carb settings. It's better to check rather than being sorry later.

                          Take care.

                          Happy thumping,
                          Prakhar

                            • DIY?: Kick lever oil leakage

                              Hi,
the oil-grease mixture is leaking from the kicklever seal of the gearbox. I am thinking of trying to fix this myself. Any ideas on how to do it? Also, what spare parts will I need for the job?

                              Comment

                              • ^^ you would need the seals, and the allen keys to remove the kick, and the gear box cover.

Change the gearbox cover gasket while you are at it.
