If I change it from outside after changing from them, I will end up mixing two brands f oil + spending double...
I was just wanting to know if anyone has tried any other oil or still stuck with Honda oil and as to how does the honda oil feel ???
I think I ll stick to it, just that I expected a little more out of the oil
If you want to keep the bike in top condition then change the bikes oil every 2000-2500 kms regardless of the showrooms service interval. Keep up with it only for the warranty.
About which oil to use according to my experience for 2 years and 50,000 kms completed i suggest u use the 20w40 Honda oil diligently for the first 20000 kms . After that the bike gets in its prime and the engine clearances are set. after 20k kms u can switch to Castrol GTX 20w50. You will notice the difference in performance immediately. Plus top speed will be increased.

Precisely speaking at lower gears the bike will pick up slowly but the momment u hit 3rd gear ull see the change of torque. On 5th gear the bike will be smooth as butter even a it crosses 90 kmph.

When i was using 20w40 honda oil my bike used to top out at 120kmph.
When i used GTX it started hitting 110 without a sweat and topped out at 130-135 kmph.

It worked for me. So try it if you feel like.

I mean if I mostly ride alone, what is better ? Soft or hard ?
If I have a pillion most of the times, then what is better ?

For two, medium is the best. But, if the roads are bad, if your pillion wants good ride quality, set it to soft. But, the problem is sometimes, with pillion, the center stand will touch the speedbrakers.

As of now, I have been riding with soft setting, as I ride the bike alone for most of the time.

Though initially the monoshock feels hard, it will become softer as the time goes. After 3000kms mine has not been as hard as before. I am enjoying the great quality of the monoshock. It simply glides on continuous potholes.
Get the medium setting as it will ferment with time. Riding Unicorn on soft setting for prolonged periods will eventually maake the bikes suspension even softer and it gets irritating as the monoshock starts re-coiling at each bump u hit. It feels like you are on a Camel. Besides the bike stays rock strurdy at sharp bends wihch require steep leaning. You will see the difference when u get it done.So medium setting as per me should work fine regardless of whether u are riding single or with a pillion.

I guess you know how the hyderabad roads are now. With medium setting giving me jolts to the spine in the potholes, I preferred soft setting to keep my spine healthy. I will change to hard setting in ghats for great handling. I will use medium when the 'new monoshock' becomes a bit old and becomes more softer.

Anna personal experience, try and avoid potholes as the fork cone set of the Unicorn is very sensitive. Unless you are ok with spending Rs.333/- on it every 6 months. One hard hit and you can notice the difference in handling. You would have already noticed it by now i think. The bike starts to shimmy(weight shift from side to side) gradually.

I think the Dazzler is much more comfi than the previous Unicorn as a result of the larger rear tyre. Enlighten me on that if it is not the case.

Thanks for your advice and it proved my suspicion. My bike has been doing the same of late after I hit potholes. It starts to behave normal once you stop and start again. Now, I have to wait for the cone set too (no spares of Dazzler are available as of now). I fell recently and I have been waiting for the headlight cowls.

I devised a solution to that for continued riding if shimmering starts.

Just move to the left side of the road. Accelerate to about 40 kmph and then brake hard(not so hard that the front wheel skids but hard enough for the weight to act to the front of the bike). That way the displaced fork cone kind off sets itself and the shimmering stops(till the next pothole).

P.S.:Be sure to look if someone is behind you when you brake or else you could end up with more than a faulty fork cone set .

Thanks bro, for all your suggestions.. I am also thinking to stick to Honda oil and change it every 1500 kms rather than depending on the kms prescribed by Honda...

You mentioned that you change the settings when you want to ride it to a ghat or somewhere else.. Do you change it on our own or go to a mech ?? How do you change it on your own ? Is the tool to change the setting provided in the tool kit ?
I am currently running on the setting that was set by Honda, no changes made so far and I think its medium... The ride quality has been good, but I just thought of trying all the settings and knowing the difference...

1500 kms is a lil over the top bro. Its too early and too heavy on the pocket.
                          2000 to 2500 is fine.
Unless your riding style involves red lining all the gears all the time. Then 1500 km interval is just fine.

Yes. The tool is provided in the bike's tool set. If you would have noticed there is a plain Aluminium Steel rod of about 10cms in length in the kit. It fits into the circular grooves by the side of the mono-shock and helps in turning the mono-shock in the required direction for the desired setting. Refer the maintenance manual of the bike for the exact procedure.

But the catch is that the material of the rod(tool) is too soft for the shock. If the shock has become too tight to turn(which it will over a period of time) then the rod either slips off or bends due to excess force.

My Tip: Get a rod of the same size and of a harder metal say proper drop-forged steel [OR] go to a mech who knows how to do it.(a mere Rs.10 spent never hurt anyone]

                            • A little off-topic, but did anyone notice that the Hero Honda website has been updated with the new version of the Hunk ? Pretty much rips off straight from the Dazzler.

The digital-analogue gauge looks nice, but the LED lights are not really up my alley, they should have redone the whole ugly rear end instead of just plugging in the L.E.Ds in the existing structure.

Hero Honda showroom is right next door to me, so might go down for a test-ride sometime before passing the final verdict :-)

                              • Also, I'm curious as to whether people here are ALWAYS using premium fuel to keep the dazzler rolling or just normal grade ?
