This is far fetched imagination for sure. Stoner was most definitely bitter about Rossi being accorded the status of MotoGP itself. In this case, MM is clearly not the favorite for Dorna. He got himself a penalty at Silverstone. He has been warned before and that does not seem like preferential treatment to me.

Are you trying to say that a double world champ from earlier classes and a championship leader in the premier class does not know how to brake? You feel that he is lucky that his front does not fold...in a nutshell, you think that it's pure luck that he is leading the championship. This has to be the most hilarious observation ever. Dont feel offended but I think you either hate MM or Honda or both.

Dorna wouldn't and can't be biased enough and make rules around one sportsperson so as to make the sport his own game! In one way or the other, we must understand that the rider is no less a reason than the sport itself to attract the massive viewership and that too for decades. The stands, at any track, are filled with fans holding banners for their favorite riders! If at all, what Dorna could try and do is convince Rossi stay in MotoGP for as long as possible. They know he still attracts the biggest crowd in most race tracks and the TV viewership. Beyond that, they can't be anymore biased in favor of him or any other particular rider. Do you think a team as powerful as a Honda would allow that to happen? Especially when the relationship between them and Rossi have been more or less sour since 2004.
    +100

What many forget that he is a rider who has come up from the lower series where touching and contact are very much a part of racing. The 125cc class and Moto2 are highly competitive and closely fought classes where evenly matched machinery calls for dogfights which are mighty close. The MotoGP class is entirely different thanks to the likes of Stoner, Lorenzo and Dani who ride like purists. Any action of close racing was around only till Rossi was competitive (or on competitive machinery). Correct me if Im wrong, Rossi was not penalized for causing Stoner to crash in the 2011 season (and inviting the famous ambition-talent remark). This is probably the only reason why Lorenzo hated the late Simoncelli.

End of the day, its motorcycle racing..dangerous to the core but addictive like nothing else on the planet. I'm sure people realize that no MotoGP rider in senses would want to commit to any harakiri or a deliberate T-boning of any other rider...days of thunder does not happen on the racetrack.

LOL, since when did Dani boy and Lorenzo become chuddi buddies?

    ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

Random thought : I think MM should do Isle of man TT
Lorenzo and MM became buddies ever since they found a new contender. Someone interrupted in all their hopes of having a fight between them (especially after Stoner's retirement).

Ideally MM should be penalized..but not with championship points or anything which affects his positioning in the championship. It can be a monetary penalty with a warning of race disqualification if it happens again. I'm not speaking because I love MM. It has to do with a racer's primary instinct of getting back and you would not want a highly aggressive MM storming from the back of the field like in some of the lower classes over the last few years. Traditionally, Sepang has registered only one win for MM in 125 class on a Derbi. Montegi has been good for him as also Valencia. Australia has been relatively average in terms of his results in the earlier classes.

I would also say remove traction control, launch control and let it be pure man & machine, let wrist be the only traction control, but that wud be a different topic.

If it's directed to me since you quoted my post, then let me clarify that I didn't say it. I haven't even said anything related to this in fact

If at all, I would just say that this is a natural instinct of any rider to check his tail irrespective of how often he actually does it. I wouldn't even make a fuss about it at all. I guess, Lorenzo did it just to see how close Marquez had got to him after the Pedrosa incident.

And yes, whether motorcycles should have such electronics or not is a different topic

When we ride on streets, we usually maintain our riding posture for a prolonged time so we can set the RVMs as per our head position. But in professional racing, riders are always completely tucked behind the fairing on a straight, this is a riding position where you can never make use of the RVMs; also, they move to the either sides a lot as well. It's simply not practical hence. This is the best reason I can think of.

Secondly, every possible ounce saved is crucial in a motogp motorcycle as we can argue how even 1 or 2 kgs could make a difference. Also, we must understand that putting rear view mirrors would make the aerodynamic process even more complicated. It is obviously easier to design or improve aerodynamics without such accessories.
            +1

The posture in which the rider rides gives very less chances of looking at RVM's though they can be designed to suit the purpose if they wanted to. like how about gloves with mirror like reflective materials

Another reason that i think is that putting on the RVM's will be distraction for the rider who is already concentrating on riding the bike, looking at the track, braking, turning etc.. Now i am not sure if they also keep changing the bike settings like maps, suspension etc, while riding if yes then they are already doing a lot.

                Ahh!!!! Stoner not racing .

In this video the suspension adjusts and the whole bike goes down a few inches, so is it stoner making adjustments on the bike while riding or is it the ECU doing that?

                • Re: MotoGP 2013 Season - Updates

No it's neither the ECU nor stoner adjusting it. When they throw the bike into the corner sideways, with both tyres gripping the track, the suspension compresses and the bike lowers down. While the bike is going through the corner it fights the centrifugal force that tries to throw you out, and thus the suspension stays compressed till they start to exit.
I hope I noticed the same part as what you were talking about..

Another update: Dani and Marc incident will undergo hearing at the sepang gp weekend.
With all the fighting going on online about the incident they have actually considered taking it seriously.

I hope it's after the race and MM can start PI from the last place. That is one track where he will be a treat to watch, given that it's a slippery circuit which rewards sliding all over the place.

Did i just read "Rear view Mirror" on a moto GP bike. How can we expect somebody to look through the rear view mirror at some 250+Kays ????? that would incur more damage than crasing into one of those tyre walls.

I was staying away from the RVM on MotoGP bike topic, but finally have to jump in.

These guys are so skilled and talented, and such fantastic vision, that they could easily keep an eye on a 'hypothetical mirror' even at 300+kmph. Remember that is the speed they are looking at their pit boards, i.e. getting their eyes off the track, even momentarily.

The reason why such thing is not possible/ feasible is Aerodynamics. Motorcycles are an aerodynamic nightmare. However much designers try to 'smoothen' it out, the rider will always stick through. Putting a mirror will only make it worse.

Secondly, even if you take your road bike to the track, you are supposed to remove your mirrors and cover your headlight. This is a rule enforced on track throughout the globe. Reason being, that if you crash you are going to be spilling glass everywhere, which would be a nightmare to the cleaning crew.

Lastly, these guys senses are so fine tuned, that they know who is coming from behind by just the sound of the bike. They don't need mirrors.

Bottom Line: Race Bikes can NEVER have mirrors!
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

BTW, back in 2006, Rossi was leading one of the races and suddenly out of nowhere, he stepped up his pace and eventually won the race. When asked about it later, he said that he saw Hayden overtake Pedrosa on the big screen. And he recognised them not by their numbers but, by their helmets! The audience in the room were left dumbfounded. So, their 'vision' is very diff. from ours.

Thats the kind of reaction I gave when I first read it, however, me and lot of other folks tried to put it in a sober way. Anyway in an open forum like this, it is not surprising to hear such doubts.
