Point to be noted is that Unlike Honda, Yamaha's "customer" or non factory bike essentially is the 2013 MotoGP engine, frame and swingarm with the Dorna-mandated electronics. But as an open class, customer bike, it is allowed both a softer tire choice and four additional liters of fuel. The result (at least with Espargaro on board) has been blistering quick in practice. (However, it remains unclear that it will manage the same pace over race distance.)

            Dovi 2nd.

jLo was the slowest factory bike.

These timings aren't a true reflection of what Sunday is going to look like.

one thing's for sure... it's very likely that we'll see a very different starting grid.

and a whole other story once everyone crosses the finish line.

              That's very true.
All Open class and Ducati riders know that the advantage of the Extra soft (blue strip) tyres is only during practice and QP.

They won't be able to run the full distance on blue tyres. That's where the Repsols and hopefully Yamaha take the show.

The thing to keep in mind is..the QP format.

If any of these highlighted factory riders don't qualify to Q2, they might be starting from the 5 line

Open class riders are getting somewhere between 7 tenths to a second on those soft tires. They will all most likely race on the same (medium compound) tyre. If you do some high level normalization, Bautista is absolutely flying and probably the fastest guy out there... 2 tenths faster than Marquez and Espargaro definitely has the speed to match the race pace of Factory bikes of Marquez, Lorenzo etc.

Not sure what you are tying to imply with the highlighting. Dovi and A Espargaro are open class and you've missed highlighting Bautista and Bradl. :S

                      Oops! Sentence construction error.
I should have specified factory. Didn't remember I had highlighted dovi and espargaro as well.
In the image itself I had highlighted according to whom I was watching out for

Regarding the tyres, it's only the extra soft that is available only to open class. Soft and medium rubber is available to all. So the open class only has an advantage on blue strip rubber, not on any other.

Another thing just came to know.
                        Rossi says about espargaro.
“He is the favourite for the victory, he is the only one able to be fast with every tire specs. I don’t underestimate Iannone and Dovizioso either, they are competitive not only on the single lap, they can reel off consistent laps in the low 1'56. They could stay on front for the whole race”.

I dont think this is going to happen! Just imagine how absurd it will look like if the podium is Espargaro, Dovizioso & Iannone!!! I hope the theory of extra soft tyres not lasting the distance or else I see all these changes being too unfair for the factory riders. But nothing looks certain now and we are in for loads of surprises this season!

Another thing to look into is open class bikes have 25ltr of fuel as opposed to 20 of factories and satellites. The M1 was already struggling last year at 21 liters. I have no doubt they will make it work but just might have to take it easy at some point. Whereas the ducati and ESP can just go flat out from start to end. Provided they don't kill the tires.

It's upto 24 ltr of fuel for open class.

I wont under-estimate Esparago. He rode well in last 2 seasons, and is showing promise this season. He may not win the Title, but yes, he will upset few of those big names you mentioned.

MotoGP has become lot more interesting.

QP starts at 8:20 PM IST...Dont miss out guys.
