I dont think honda will pay the import duty for 3000 even when they have a manufacturing plant is working/in process. They made us wait for 4-5 months already after announcement and could had taken a month or two if was not possible.
Second thing i feel so is, the saree guard bracket which is only for indian bikes and is not seen on the Thai manufactured bikes. Also the switch assembly and tires.. I mean to say is, if they import it, why wont they get the bike as it is in the Thai market..

I dont say its a confirmed reason to say that the bikes we are getting are Indian made but these all reasons make me feel so. and we also have no confirm news on the import thing..

Note: Well, the import thing has happend in the past so cant be denied. R15? Not to forget even the initial lot of RX100 engines were imported from JAPAN. And they are said to be more better and tougher.

Guys one query, even if they have brought the bike from Thailand through CKD route then don't they need to go through the homologation process as was the case in NINJA and if it was brought as CBU then will the company pay the extra tax (I think it is almost 110%) for 3000 bikes

plus as said before what about the switches from Dazzler and indicators from Stunner thing?

Or is it that only the engine was imported and the rest of the bike was assembled here using localized components (don't know if it makes any sense

)?

My few observations on the CBR

Just a point on the fairings of the CBR and R15. R15 has got additional fairing behind the front wheel that catches all the mud kicked out by the front tire. The CBR has got full of its engine exposed to all the mud that could be kicked out by the front tire. Expect to see lots of mud on the exhaust and the front of the engine especially in rainy days!!!!
Also, the R15's fairing looks more functional with lot of plastic structure covering the engine behind the front wheel (as seen in the pic)...

In this view (below), the exhaust looks like a long flat cricket bat

Either painting the heat shield black or removing it, makes the silencer less prominent and avoids it appearing bulky.

Metal: Honestly, as per what I think, and compared to what others are saying, the first lot is indeed made in India. The tax thing comes to mind and already coming out of recession, pricing this bike right, Honda have really pulled a bunny out of the hat. And I guess thats why its made in India. Were it imported, the quality would have looked better, felt great( since Thailand will also be importing to rest of the world.) Although it is looking great, I differ on the quality part still.

Bottomline: first lot IS made in India, and I guess nobody will be getting a bhp more or less, 25 it will be.

When there's FTA, there's no import tax. Regarding Homologation, not sure. I assume it might've been evaded due to FTA.

Lets See, I dont think so it is Imported from Thailand as it simply makes no sense and Honda had begun the manufacturing a while ago and someone had posted they make 30 bikes a week (Dont know how).

So Even if they began in February, a lot of bikes have been manufactured.

The FTA will be implemented by 2011 and as per my info it is still not finalized. One more point is that if I am not wrong then NINJA is also imported from Thailand so as soon as this agreement is in place NINJA's price will go southwards.

So at this point in time it seems rare that the bikes can be imported without paying any tax.

The FTA is expected to be signed in this week and I think it will take a bit more time to get it implemented.

Here is some info about the plant..

Ya its old news.. but it is news

it says Honda plant is capable of making 16,00,000 units / year and the Rajasthan plant can make 6,00,000

In total 22Lac / year

In 2010 we had 261 weekdays and 365 total days and this year we have 260days..

so 2200000/261 - 8429

So they make 8429 bikes in a day..

how many CBR do they make in a day...

even if they make 500CBR.. that's a lot.. ya then they have to export to U.S too.

India Honda is going to export to U.S so quality should be good. but my past experience is not allowing me to believe it lol

the r15 has now got free faring replacement kit wherin the one behind the front wheel has additional mesh thus making it more functional
