    • Guys, there are a few myths I would like cleared:

      1. Tyre size increase doesn't always mean performance decrease. Of course, weight increases by a matter of some grams or so.

You know, I fitted my Pulsar 180 UG3 with R15's tyres and lost some performance. The reason was later found out to be the soft compound tyres which ate some performance due to their stickyness.
They were lighter than my Pulsar's Stock Zappers, but still they were slower!

The point is that if Yamaha choose wider tyres with a harder compound, then we might not lose performance too, with enough grip coming from the wider size too.

      2. There's no such Government rule stating max 17 bhp's for a 150cc engine. Neither is there any such rule for a 125cc producing 15 bhp maximum, yes even in Europe. Please don't spread rumors.

Why People Got Confused: As long as you're on a "Car Only License" in Europe, you can STILL ride bikes, but only below 125cc, giving below 15 bhp. Got me??
Manufacturers can easily make a 125cc making 16 bhp in Europe, but then it won't be suitable for car license holders and so, people might not buy it, so manufacturers don't make it.

India Yamaha is under no such "less power" boundation, except the one called "cubic capacity". Their racing focus has stopped them from making it a R16 or R18, otherwise its simple re-engineering that even TVS did with RTR 160 to make it a 180.

How can a lighter & more sticky tire make you loose performance?

There might be some drop in the top end but that is due to lower profile of R15's tyre. In turn you are gaining on acceleration part.

not entirely true and not entirely wrong. it has more to do with pollution norms than the power you can extract from a given cc. if you can make a 150cc engine produce 18/19 hp and still follow the latest pollution norms i guess you can mass produce it. but that is not easy.

I understand that gearing changed too. Now, I get 50 kmph at 4.2 krpm, instead of 4.

BUT, I lost acceleration+top end both. First, I got the front tyre installed. It killed some performance. Then the rear one was installed and it was the bomb! It killed more performance notably....

Grip was very good, but performance sucked, which proves that the older R15 is always running under pressure, due to the tyres itself!
If you don't believe me, get R15 tyres installed on any 150/ 180 and see the difference. I triple checked before speaking on Xbhp.

@ Joel: Bro, if you're reading this, kindly confirm my observation. Personally, I am damn sure about this. There's no longer any doubt.

R15 is a Fuel Injected bike, not a carburetted one. It met Bharat III standards easily, when only Bharat II was required.

And in both Bharat III and Euro III emission Standards, emissions are measured at a constant speed, which is 90 kmph for Bharat (and 120 kmph for Euro). R15 can easily pass it, even if you give it higher bhp through tuning.

That is very strange man. I will be changing the stock tyres to hard/medium compound on my R15. Will update the change in performance.(considering i'll be putting tyres of roughly the same weight as the stock tyres.)

dude, these pics are already posted in this thread already...check 3 pages back for the quoted pics....

showroom in Kerala not willing to take the booking...they advice the me to came to showroom after the launch of the bike.......i think that is a gud way because none of the showrooms doesn't know anything about the cost & specifications of the bike....they not even posses a single pics of the bike other than pics posted on internet....so taking booking of a bike without knowing about it is nothing but waste....i think they are doing this without the permission of the company...

                        • Guys, I just checked out winner yamaha near kundrathur, chennai. I was told that the new r15 will be unveiled Sep 6 and will be available for delivery by first week of october.

The price is expected to be at least 1.3 lakhs. Do you think the new redesign is worth the extra approx 20k??

                          • @Samarth619: Hey dude! I'm again counting on you for the required information/suggestion.

Mine is August 2008 model R15 and I'm more than satisfied with it. I'm sure you are aware of the kind of performance one can achieve through this bike if knows about playing with its power.

However, if I don't have to compromise on the same performance level, I can go for the new one. I think you can give some logical feeding to my hunger so that I can decide in time. So what do you say?

OT: If you get a 100 sized MRF Zapper in tubeless, then you can go for it.

Or better yet, try getting TVS Srichakra ones from RTR 180. They're tubeless and yes, I know they have bad grip and you'll have to heat them up before riding hard, but they'll do fine.
We know how much of a hellraiser RTR 180 is... could be due to the hard compound tyres too.

@ MJ1984: I could have added info about the new R15. But frankly & truthfully speaking, I don't have any info apart from the one leaked from the pics... After the new R15 makes it to market, and I ride one, I can give some suggestion but not right now.
