  • sounds like they replaced stock parts with the Daytona kits and are charging 20-30k to compensate the cost
As if they legalized that racing kit

^^ interesting this. race ecu, high lift cam, dagrex exhaust disguised as stock pipe... yum. Oh wait, im imagining too many things

      • ^^^ Not even with the Daytona Kit does it reach 22 bhp... a free flow exhaust, a hotter cam and a ECU with rev limiter removed, a modified airbox... and it still requires gearing changes to reach a claimed 150 kmph...

So where are these figures for a street legal bike coming from?

I was getting quite restless reading all the info n speculation on the new r15 , plus since i am looking to book one for myself i decided to go over to the neighborhood yamaha showroom and get some info.

Surprisingly the dude also had the same story to tell - Approx 130000 on road, 21 -22 bhp.

Now if this turns out to be true m gonna b one happy customer.

Oh well i noe it could be all hogwash but if it is then how could be different dealers in different parts of the country say pretty much the same thing
During speculation phase of an automobile the last person to trust for news is Mechanic closely followed by a Dealer.
Before Ninja launc the nearby Probiking dealer was damn sure about 1.65L price tag. What happened actually is history.
It’s a wearied reality beyond logic how rumors always maintain consistency across regions…
Regarding performance, R15 engine is already near to its peak output (legal) for its size and it’s not ZMR engine (no offence) from which still a lot can be squeezed out.
Expecting a horse or may be 2 at max with slight increase in low end torque will be realistic. And Yamaha will do that just to keep the performance similar or slightly better than the existing model and that too just to compensate the wider rear tire (with minimal stress to engine and buyers pocket).>>
The price should be similar (if not less) to maintain good distance with the existing models (read P220 and CBR 250R). There are some reasons to reduce the price, Localization and mass production are a few to name. Similarly overall upgraded version (looks and performance) is a good reason to increase the price. So these two factors cancel out (localization has a greater effect though, earlier engine was imported now it’s local).

Agreed... realistically speaking one may expect a slight bump of 1 - 2 bhp not more than that probably ecu tweaked settings but nothing more.. i guess beyond that we all are just expecting too much or just simply going crazy with our wishlist...

            Cheers

            • True that! however you can't ignore the fact that Yamaha has extensively tested the new r15 before launching it.

Just gives me the slight glimmer of hope that its not just a cosmetic makeover or a slight bump in power, but then i noe I am only wishing for all this and if wishes were horses......
              respect ma authoritae!!

              • As per regulation, i think max from a 150cc that can be produced is around 17bhp. so the R15 is at the limit already. ( Ill have to dig up this information, unless someone can confirm for me )

The extension testing could also be a test for longetivity of the new 10spoke alloys and also testing the suspension setup now that there is probably a weight difference on that rear section.

Also judging by the pics, the side front fairings seem to be a bit narrow compared to the old R15 and the holes seem to make me believe that it is a weight shedding process. Maybe that is why they call it leaner meaner

i think this info is true . i have heard that in india a 150cc engine can not be made to produce more than 17 bhp(govt. rule). they think any 150cc engine producing 17 bhp will not meet pollution norms .

                    • I just love the swing arm..
I doubt if this package will be quicker than the current R15s
I still believe that since launch, if anything R15 is only getting worse little by little every year..now they are trying to please more people with looks and trying to make up for the performance loss it cost them..
PM me for Daytona Racing ECU for the R15

                      • Totally disappointing. All that Yamaha could come up with after 2 years is just an aesthetically souped up bike? Where is the answer to the CBR ? Hope they have a surprise in store after this R 15 version 2 (whatever) launches

If it's slower than the current R15, then its fine.

But if with the same displacement and with that tyre size if it manages to outperform the current R15 then God help YAMAHA!!

Even if there are minor tweaks in engine, it's good to test the bike so much to deliver good quality. Else we will label Yamaha too for getting Beta testing done by customers ;-)

I also think, since current R15 was doing well hence Yamaha must be waiting for the right time (CBR Launch and New Pulsar line up launch) to launch this new avatar. It's a tried practice in automobile industry. We are already witnessing this with drop in sales of cars so many new models are being launched...

My wishlist has only increased torque (i know 150 cc has its limitations :-( ).
As its not only CC or BHP that matters, Torque is what give you the rush of adrenaline, the very reason for which we spend more money for a machine...
If BHP was so important the movie named "Torque" would have been named "BHP" ;-)

We’ve just managed to lay our hands on a dealer invite for the new Yamaha R15 unveil courtesy our long time reader, Dileep Anirudh. The motorcycle, which Yamaha calls the 2.0 version of the R15 has been spied numerous times doing the testing rounds and also has been caught on the factory floor on a couple of occasions. The new Yamaha R15 is a motorcycle that brings a lot of new features to the equation, mainly in the styling department.
The new Yamaha R15 features an all new rear end which is raised quite high to endow the motorcycle a superbikish look that’ll find a lot of favor with Indian motorcyclists who’d want a radical looking motorcycle. Also, the R15 2.0 will feature a wider rear tyre, which is another feature that the market has been demanding. The alloy wheels too get a new design with 10 spokes. The muffler is an all new unit with a faux carbon fiber insert for a racy feel.
                              New Yamaha R15 2.0
The rear tyre gets a tyre hugger and a floating number plate holder. The new Yamaha R15′s engine gets black powder coating on the crankcase. What remains to be seen is whether Yamaha will endow the new R15 with a little more power and torque to compensate for the wider rear tyre. By our reckoning, there’s a fat chance that Yamaha will tweak the R15′s engine/ECU slightly to ensure that the larger tyre doesn’t result in the performance of the motorcycle getting hampered in any way.
Yamaha says that the new R15 2.0 will be leaner and meaner. So, expect some weight loss or a power bump or both. Also, there has been some talk about the Yamaha R15′s parts being localized to a large extent. If this is indeed true, expect the new Yamaha R15 2.0 to be priced very competitively as Yamaha India could pass on the cost advantage to the customer. Whatever may be the case, we’ll find out on September 6th, 2011, when the new Yamaha R15 2.0 will finally be showcased to the Indian motorcycling populace, in all its racy glory.

Guys lot of you have been to to Race Tracks near Chennai and Coimbatore. These pics of the covered up bike looks to me as if it has been taken in one of the tracks, the cement blocks and the whole look reminds me of the track where I hav visited before. Any ideas !!

                              • From the pics, the wheelbase seems to be longer as well. Im just thinking they tweaked the engine to compensate any power loss due to wider tyres. But the overall package looks awesome.
