  • Re: Yamaha YZF R3 Launched Globally: xBhp News

I have a rough idea of the R3's price.
If we look at Zauba export data (yes I know, yet another Zauba post ), we find that Yamaha India exports some 2 wheelers to Japan for testing/QC/whatever

Now, Japan has no import duty on 2 wheelers - http://www.customs.go.jp/english/tar.../data/e_87.htm

    Here is the screenshot -

All the above entries are CBUs and since Japan has no import tariff, there is no need to resort to ridiculous transfer pricing tactics to save duty.
Notice how the entries for the scooters quite closely approximate the ex-showroom prices here.

Based on that I think that the R3 (with or without ABS) should be ~2.5 lakhs ex-showroom.
    Sort of informed guess, anyway.

In US it undercuts the Ninja 300 . Why should it be priced any higher here ?.

I had a chat with a sales representative from PACER Yamaha, Bangalore. The guy told me the pricing would be similar to the DUKE or RC 390. It will be g if it is in the same price range.

If I remember right the Ninja 300 is priced at 4500 - 5000 USD clearly much lesser than in India. This on road pricing in India is definitely not a benchmark that should be followed by Yamaha. Taxes and duties should not be an excuse for Yamaha to say "here's the bike its 4L+, take it or go".

A lot of people here are under the impression that higher the price, higher the quality. Before such statements are made do remember it is totally fine for the company to make lesser profits, if they make 10K per bike then it's perfectly fine for them to make 5K. Making 5K per bike and reducing the quality is a thought that should be discouraged at the manufacturer level. Corporations want to squeeze more from their customers and thereby they do whatever it is to save costs that is why we see products that should be affordable with good quality and a long shelf life disappearing. We seem to be okay with spending more on maintenance rather than demanding the manufacturer to give a bike that's low on maintenance.

Sadly this the state of affairs and the consumer has no voice in such situations. These are decisions made by people with fat wallets wanting to make them fatter.

Sorry if my first post comes out rudely. I'm an avid follower of consumerism and history of economy, which makes me want to say things like these. Lastly even though I lead a frugal lifestyle occasionally I do give in to some guilty pleasures, I'm hoping the R3 will be one of them (depends on the pricing).

            Peace out riders!

You are comparing ABS to non-ABS and in the US, the Ninja MSRP is discounted as it was launched in 2013. It now retails anywhere between $4300-4700.

My bad! . Non-abs version of Ninja 300 is still retailing at 4999$( checked the Kawasaki website, unless the dealers are offering discounts ). So R3 undercuts by 9$. anyways! I will stop speculating , no point I guess. Lets wait for Aug 11 and pray. cheers!

Price is definitely not the benchmark for quality. its the heritage of the company that defines the quality, if one say yamaha or suzuki ppl surely believe that quality irrespective of there product why ? coz , these companies gives more thrust to quality and for that reason they known for worldover.

if i say Hyosung Bike also almost same price point as Ninja then is it mean quality is more because of price is more ?

On the price point as per our ZAUBA friend [@tanay] , price would be around 2.5L-2.8L , i too believe that as per autocar india , they mentioned the price might be @ 2.5-2.8L ex-show, if its the case then it have good future

We all want it to be cheaper but price is not going to be less than N300 or around. I cant imagine 3L for R3 ex-showroom in Delhi.

i saw the R3 at the Sepang MotoGP circuit in October last year.

Build quality was impeccable. There's no reason this will be priced less than the N300.

Why is N300 the benchmark for price n quality? May b kawi is making more profit per sale, hence the price. And kawasaki has positioned themselves in premium performance segment, but yamaha has its presence in the commuter segment too n that is the segment which gives the ground reality. Keeping that in mind, yammy would definitely undercut the N300. And compared to kawasaki, yamaha can rake in the numbers given their long standing history in India.
I seriously want them to undercut N300, so that I can give it a shot

I'm kinda devastated. No, not by the bike. I waited for so many months for this (and also HX250R), I thought they might not release it this year and went ahead with D390. If I could've waited atleast 20 days, I could've had this. It will be priced similarly to the TNT 300 I think and that was in my budget too.

Why must this happen? :< Patience is the key people, I should've waited. KTM isn't no Yamaha. Buyer's remorse creeping up on me slowly and I can't do nothing about it.

Sorry for my whining on a thread of great news. Peace out. *sniff*

Also, my friend who's into importing business (his family actually), told me that non-ABS cost 2.7 and ABS cost 3-3.2. Just an info, don't know the credibility but he seemed confident.

I know that feel bro. I've been waiting for the Mahindra Mojo for 3 years now.
I am almost about to pull the plug and get a Karizma. But what if I buy it and Mojo launches a fortnight after that.

The biggest factor in the smaller Kawasakis being priced high is Bajaj and their mega-margins on bikes/spares/labour alike
Yamaha has its own showrooms and does not have to pay any third party to sell its bikes.
Everything else remains the same - CKD operations

Just wait for a few more days, August 11 isn't far away
