  • Re: Yamaha YZF R3 Launched Globally: xBhp News

It was 2008 with the launch of the first gen R15, a test ride on which left me wanting for something more. It wasn't the power that bugged me but the dimensions of the bike where i had difficulty folding my 3.5' long legs to keep my feet planted on the pegs without feeling the cramps. I was hoping with the success of the R15 and the FZ, Yamaha would in the course of next 2 years experiment with a 250cc motorcycle. Alas 3 years later it was the Honda 250R that finally broke my patience with Yamaha, but i was still hopeful of an upscale R15 with a 250cc mill in the next 2 years.
4 years later, as i'm starting to look at the 600+ segment, Yamaha decides to finally bring in the R3.
So i think its fair to say that when Yamaha decides to bring in the FZ6R or the MT07, i would probably be thinking of moving into the litre bike range.

Nonetheless, years of speculations and desires are finally put to rest with Yamaha waking up to the call of the thousands. As the hindi proverb goes, "Der aaye Durust aaye" aka Better late than never.

Edit: ERR, wait a minute, news is "unconfirmed"? Dhat teri ki. Anyway i think Bikeindia was banned from xbhp a while ago because of their ability to churn out silly stories from thin air and send the Indian motorcyclists into a tizzy? Motoroids is no better tbh, i often take their news with a pinch of roids. Hope this news isn't linked to roid rage.

Yamaha Motor India is bringing a quarter litre motorcycle to India. The company has sent BikeWale an invite for a launch at the Buddh International Circuit, making us believe it’s the YZF-R3 that will be launched on August 11th.

11th aug it is. yamaha has sent invites for a launch at BIC.
it has to be r3/r25 launch 😀

fingers crossed on price, hopefully it will be affordable.

one important lessons learnt is when making investment for pricy bike , one should be very careful about brand and quality, else it will be very bad decision in your life
as one spend 3+ lac on bike in india is not small amount. well i did similar mistake with Hyosung now i have to think twice before investing another 3+ lac on bike

Glad you realised that. I remember reading your ownership post on GT250R. What happened with Hyosung? It was around the same time I changed from Duke 200 to Ninja 300. And your point about brand and quality matters a lot if you are investing so much.

Glad, we will soon have Yamaha offering brand and quality in 300 cc category.

Unless, like someone said, it turns out to be launch of some other fancy scooter or a refreshed commuter with sporty stickers and name.

What's strange is that none of the other sites except BikeIndia are reporting this news. Maybe they are slower in updating their content.

well nothing wrong with hyosung , i did really enjoyed it and service was very good. the issue come in heat of bike in traffic and more importantly the spares parts price and availability , as its difficult to source from 3rd party.
there are few parts failed and replaced under warranty without any issue, but after owning R15 and experiencing its reliability and robust build, i might have expected more from GTR . anyway now GTR sold after using 2 years and 22k running for good price. looking for reliable long term owing a sub 500cc bike.

I am eagerly waiting for this one since ages. If Yamaha prices the R3 under 3L(ex-showroom), then i believe Kawasaki are gonna definitely have a run for their money..

                          Eagerly waiting for this !!!
Don't want to wait any longer. In a desperate need to upgrade from my RTR160, which is still a charm after 8 years of ownership.
I waited for the RC 390 for too long and then it turned out to be a disappointment at the launch date...because of it's comfort level and fuel tank size.
Don't see any other options ,,,,

Another thing that surprises me is - why is Suzuki not entering this market. All it's competitors are already there...this I believe is the only player that is left to participate in this race.

What if it is a racing academy? What if it is a mascot for an academy?

Jokes apart, if the price is right I might think this as a commuter . A real alternative to the ktms. Eagerly want to check it in real life.

Really hope its the R3 launch . If the price is right, say around 3 lakhs OTR Bangalore , will say goodbye to my Ceeber. :-) Perfect upgrade I guess. Smooth, lightweight , comfort and power.
                                *fingers crossed*
