• Re: Frequently Asked Questions (Yamaha RX Series)

Thanks, jatinarya. what am i looking for with the current flow? will there be fewer spark in those rev ranges?
When rev hard, there should be a lag in current and some missing would be there, I encountered with this problem some 3-4 years back and I just tuned my carb again and again but all in vein.

Than I take the bike to the mechanic and told him that I tuned the several times but the problem still persists.
He than do the same as I have mentioned earlier and show me that current flow was not constant.
And after replacing the starter coil the acceleration becomes smooth again.

But do also clean the carb thoroughly as suggested by kb100 because my case occur very rarely, and in 99% cases carb is the only culprit [emoji12]

thank you, jatinarya. Will try with the carb cleaner and test, then if it still persists then i'll get a new coil plate. It may be the coil because it's dies suddenly while idling or during de-acceleration. hope it doesn't come to that.

That is not connected to anything, its a overflow tube, I can either connect something there or leave it open, the green circle is where the 2T output from the pump goes

Just to add to what Pramod said, buy transparent oil tube and connect to the orifice rounded red and leave the other end under the carburetor. keeping it open can allow dirt & water to enter the carb and jam the slide

• Re: Frequently Asked Questions (Yamaha RX Series)

Hello
I have yamaha RX-135 4S 2000 Model clocked at 105000 KM on stock engine. Then i rebuilt it in year 2012 with new Bore/Piston/Crank. My bore is YP-2 3KA20. The original one is 4TL00. Bike runs good in first two gears with max 60 kmph in second gear and pickup is amazing but then shifted to 3rd gear and it behave likes Diesel DI engine and picks up speed and acceleration very slowly (like sudden RPM loss) and shifted to 4th gear shows even worst speed and acceleration progress and max out at 75 kmph. Mechanic said everything is OK but agreed that it is not rocket-pocket in 3rd and 4th gear. He says run it till 1000 km and you will see the improvement. I have used it only 300 km after the rebuilt. Also i have to constantly open the throttle to keep in its power band otherwise it will not accelerate. Don't know what is the problem but mechanic with 30+ experience on RX model has no clue.

It was not used since last three years but now i am using it daily.

Any Advise would be very useful to me.

The 3KA bore you are using is from the Indonesian model which runs with totally different components compared to our desi RX135 .The problem you are facing in the performance is due to wrong gearing and carburetion. The RX 4 speed uses a 16 teeth front and 34 teeth rear sprocket where as the Indonesian model uses a 15 teeth front and 38 teeth rear sprocket.I am not sure whether you can find a 38 teeth rear sprocket. if not change to RXG sprockets which is 15 & 37. Similarly the Indonesian model uses a bigger VM26 carburetor,a different primary drive, different cylinder head & compression ratio and 5 speed close ratio gear box. By changing your chain sprockets to 15,37 from RXG or 15,39 from RX100 you bike will roar back to power in 3 rd & 4 th gear, but prolonged high speed rides should be avoided due the small carburetor that you use, have a frequent check on the engine temperature /overheating ....good luck

Yes i feel good amount of heat to my legs while accelerate aggressively. will try with RXG sprocket set and let you inform. It give me 19 kmpl of mileage in relaxed driving mode. Some questions to you
1. If i removed the seal between head and block, does the compression ratio improve ?
2. If i switch to VM26 will solve the problem ?
3. should rejetting of existing carburetor will help me to get out of situation ?

The Indonesian model runs a very low compression ratio @ 6.9:1. By using the Indian RX135 head you must be already running at a high compression ratio .Indian RX135 runs @ 9.9:1. So do not think of further increasing the compression.

VM26 is the carb on Indonesian model. It will definitely help

If you can get the carburetor venturi bored another 1-1.5 mm you can fix bigger jets and tune it. But you need a specialist tuner to do it. Better to get a VM26. First change the sprockets, then carb...

I think indian 5-speed has 15F & 38R setup. i hope it will be available.

First you change the sprockets and see how it improves. I don't think that is the carburetor you should get, you will find oe vm26 ..there are some sellers in FB 5 speed groups etc..

No that carb cannot be fixed on the RX. it has a different manifold/mixing chamber mouth. noticed it now !

Just installed the sprocket set and the difference is significant I am very happy now special Thanks to satishg for helping me. Just did only 1km of test run but it felt very grunty. One thing I observed that 3KA20 bore has most of its power built at higher rev range than the 4TL00 bore. It's like turbo charged engine and sudden rush of power felt at higher rpm.
Again thank you very much satishg. I can't explain my happiness in words but now my passion for this bike opens widely and second upgrade definitely will be VM26SS carburetor.
By the way this is my bike. I call it BLACKBIRD.
