  • Re: Frequently Asked Questions (Yamaha RX Series)

33 KM of Test run completed with mix riding condition.

    1. Slow speed ride condition

It was behaving well after switching to 15T front and 38T rear. It pulled in 4th gear as low as 25kmph speed but yes acceleration took some time to get the 60kmph speed.

    2. High speed ride condition

This is the important part and to my surprise it has clocked the amazing 112 kmph speed (on Speedo indicated) with my genuine 107 kg of weight. I have installed Mecheline M45 2.75x18 front and 3.25x18 rear which is oversize. to clear my doubt, i decided another run and it has clocked 110+ on speedo. I have never clocked those such speed on my stock 4TL00 bore.

One incident happened at high speed. when bike was running at 110+ kmph speed i decided to decelerate to reduce the speed and at around 80 kmph and bike was suddenly stopped and some sound came from engine and stalled. Some fumes were coming from silencer and some burnt smell was coming from engine. I waited for 5 minutes and started the bike and it was started with one kick then after riding the bike at 40 to 50 kmph for 20 KM and nothing happened. Some knocking or somthing loosening type sound coming from engine and disappeared with increased speed.
    Note :
I was not riding on public road for maintaining safety and not encourage for same.

    Some Observation
    - It still need some retuning may be with bigger carburetor
    - This bore developed it most of power at higher RPM
    - 3rd Gear was strongest here with very wide power band. I am able to hit 80+kmph in third. The feeling was tremendous.
    - One thing is sure, Need to accelerate hard for gaining some serious speed.
    - Even in froth gear, 80 to 90 kmph was adequate but after 90 kmph engine was again in its powerband and getting 110 was effortless. The acceleration from 90 to 110 kmph was awesome. And the sound is like jaguar fighter jet.
    - There was grunt at 60kmph in 4th gear with normal riding condition and felt another gear to smoothen out.
    - I think this bore (3KA20) has very low torque in initial powerband though it was pulling easily in any gear with no sudden acceleration if you not twist the throttle fully.
    - Sound from this bore is very racy. I really liked it compare to 4TL00.
    - The refinement level is not good in 3KA20 bore compare to 4TL00.
    - 4TL00 has good amount power from low to mid range RPM.

    So finally Legend is Back

    Now i have two option
    1. To get the VM26SS (Part No.3KA-E4101-00) and retune the bike again to my satisfaction.
    2. I still have my 4TL00 bore and i could get the 1st oversize piston (0.25)

which one do you suggest ?

I think you should enjoy the 3KA..after all it's 18.5 bhp. Since the compression with Indian cylinder head will be on the high side you need to be careful with the throttle a bit. In case if you decide to revert to 4TL00 you need to go back withthe previous chain and sprockets. If you change to 39 teeth sprocket you can get more pickup but the top speed will come down by 5km.s or so.

Ditch the 4sp head and atleast get a 5sp head. Compression in 4sp head isnt suited for a engine with that big an exhaust duration. If you have a comp guage you can check yourself the difference between the 4sp and 5sp heads. You can get a genuine rxk head and carb, which is best suited for your block, with ajinkya hirawale on fb. I am not sure what gb you have but a 5sp gb would definitely help matters. You can get a vm26 replica for cheap with various performance shops like krp or nmw.

I think 3KA20 is not 18.5 BHP. It will have around 14 to 14.5 BHP. I am judging from the top speed i got from this bore. 5speed has also the top speed of 110 KMPH as per company Claim. 4Y200 has 18.5 BHP rating. Rightnow i am finding VM26ss from my next upgrade. The part no for this carburetor may be 3KA-E4101-00. I am not sure. Do you have any idea about part no ? also Which head will match the 3KA20 bore ? I mean the Head Assembly Part NO. I am only intesrted in 3KA Searies. My Next target will be 130 KMPH. Lets see what happens.

Still I have no idea about CDI ignition, Fiber reed valve and timing etc. basically i am civil engineer and now act like mechanical engineer (though no where near to design engineering) due to passion for this 2strocker. My wife asked me all the day what you have been doing on laptop and i just smile and told her that i am doing my homework.

You can find the vm26 and rxk head with ajinkya hirawale on fb as I have said before. Rdd cdi is a decent upgrade as well. Fiber reeds cost a lot and dont offer too much of a bump. I suppose both 4y2 and 3ka would have the sane head assy.

3KA-20 is the Indonesian make which is same as 4Y200 which is Japanese. Both rates at 18.5bhp. 3KA-30 was the last in the series which came on the Indonesian catalyzer model . The carb part no. is correct. To achieve that sort of speed (130 is too optimistic do you need that sort of speeds ? )you need to get the RXK primary , CDI & 5 speed transmission etc... You can check with Ajinkya on FB as suggested by Bibhu..

Thanks Bibhu. I started my search on 3KA20 and 4Y200 bore because i have doubt about non existence of 3KA20 bore and thought that this is duplicate bore and original one is 4Y200. But i was wrong found some interesting and useful stuff. Got the whole RXking part catalogue manual from net. Here is the PDF link

                also found technical specification
                - 3KA20 is also rated for 18.5 PS @ 9000 RPM of Power and 1.54 Kgfm @ 8000 RPM of Torque
                - Compression Ratio is 6.9:1 (this strange thing for me as per my thinking, higher compression has better response)
                - Carburetor is VM 26

Found another stuff from olx. The seller is ajinkya which Bibhu has already mentioned to me. many thanks to bibhu.

6-7 is the std compression for all rx era 2t ac bikes. I doubt the indian rx's claim of 9:1 as with the rxk head the compression is close to 180psi where with stock 4sp head it is about 140psi.

Original Jam RXK has 38T rear sprocket..it is 37 or between countries/models. 37T for better top end, 38T for better pick up
