My dream - RX100 - Restoration

Thank you !
Frankly speaking I don't know how to start writing here. Restoring RX100 is not new to the world, however, this is my first attempt from the scratch. It all started last year when I decided to pursue my dream to own RX100. I know it is not going to be a cake walk considering RX spares are hard to come these days and forget about the price.
Devised a plan to approach this restoration after giving some thoughts. Obstacles- sourcing spares, co-ordinating with each phases of progress, Vitamin M and above that 'TIME'.
There were tons of phone call interactions, personal visits, discussion, clarification, suggestion, taking help, offering help, kind words, appreciation, encouragement, extra mile and critics.
This restoration is dedicated to all the members whom I've made friendship over the period of time via this forum and beyond.
I'd have been in the middle of nowhere if weren't you all. Hats off !! - Aargee, Ananth, Arunava, Ashwin, Deepak, Jaideep, Jayakumar Koppula, Karthik Tirupur, Muthukumar, Nishant, Nitesh, NitinGirish, PSR Sir, Ram, RDD Dreams Ron Sir, Sanjith, Sarin, Vijay.
Observation - 25kms done :-
I've not spent much time with the bike since I had to rush to work. So could not come up with more detailed picture.
Shame on me I admit that there is a flaw in this restoration and as many would have guessed or anticipated, it's the maroon shade. Yes, the shade difference is noticible between fuel tank and side panels that I did not figure it out until I took it to the broad day light today. The problem is all the three parts were not available at the same time and I had to change the left panel to match the right since the latter matched up with tank shade. Guess I'm stupid not to compare all the three under the sun. I'm just a man! ( Do I still need to take more pics of the bike?!?!
)
Engine sounds crisp, the original beat is already lingering mildly hope it sets into perfect note in due course of time. Brakes are tight. Clutch needs to be adjusted a bit, gears shifts are hard, lighting is daylight, run on premix and also fuel pump set to minimum to check for functionality. The color difference is not noticeable atleast in the pic. You are running a stock CDI i hope. Run on the worst type of 2T oil available there for the run in n do a comp. test after 500 kms.1985 Yamaha RD350 HT

Thanks Ganesh. I'm greatful to you for the support during the restoration.Originally posted by aargee View PostAbsolutely brilliant Sri, absolutely brilliant
Seriously, I was taken back to the old times of 1990's. Congratulations on your ACHIEVEMENT
Thanks Vivek. Yes. Finally completed. In today's world everyone is looking for sportier bike, so my bike will not be headturner. Gone are those days.Originally posted by vivekarizma View Postwowwwwww..she looks awesomeee.congrats anna! atlast, your dreams came true and the pain has ended.anyways your rx makes others here feel jealous!
Thanks Ashwin for your kind words.Originally posted by ashwinprakas View PostOMG!!! The pic looks like that of a brand new ride just out of the showroom (ex-wax job).
Thanks Nitesh, many curious about the rear grab rail and even questioned why welded cycle carrier. Hardly could say anything back.Originally posted by yamdoot View PostGreat job Sri. wonderful! The picture tone is making it look like a pic from an earlier era.
Nitin thanks. The color shade differs from tank to side panels however, when taken a closer look. Felt like beating myself.Originally posted by NitinGirish View PostAh! Finally! Looks good Sriram. But that pic is not making any justice to the bike :-(
Eagerly awaiting better pics+ a you tube video of starting and revving the bike
P.S The tank and side panels colour finally seem to be clear to me now. Pictures of it earlier in the thread made it oh so close to red
Thanks Sanjith. Apart from frame all others are new, so the tank and side shields.Originally posted by sanjithjoseph View PostGr8 !!!....The paint job looks superb !...
Waiting for more pics....
SO FINALLY THE DREAM CAME TRUE....right Sriram?

Thanks Satish. Yup following religiously. Funny part is, when this bike was acquired, it won't cross 40kmph and after 6 months, I'm still forced to do the same speed.Originally posted by satishg View Postvirgin looks...do a proper run in ,all the very best with your "girl in red "
Sure, come down, will come up with G2G meet in due course of time. Nah! I'll not change nor the pic, rather will have both 100 and 135 as display pic.Originally posted by Brat View PostSri... You are correct, it is not always seen, but there is. Fact!Originally posted by yamdoot View PostThe color difference is not noticeable atleast in the pic. You are running a stock CDI i hope. Run on the worst type of 2T oil available there for the run in n do a comp. test after 500 kms.
I'm running on stock CDI for now, not sure of RDD CDI when available. Also why do recommend to run on the worst 2T oil? To be frank, I've not known of any such or even brand.
Thank you Rishi.Originally posted by Ri$hi View PostGreat. The bike looks as if its just out of showroom. Hats off to You Sri.
While waiting for the signals You might be asked if Yamaha has relaunched rx100?

@ Sri, after you telling about the shade difference, maybe I'm able to see that in the pic now. So, what have you decided?Whenever there is a Rainbow in the sky, I know it's u mastering the art of Cornering. U will always be remembered brother, R.I.P Arun.

Mr.Sriram How could you post such a bad picture of the RX 100

I had seen it in Flesh..and oh boy is it SEXY !!!!!!!
I had done /seen many restorations, but let me accept none had come close to this one..I couldn't take my eyes off this bike..
The attention to detail is just Outstanding..I had bought a New RX100 in 1987 and let me tell all,.. none of the new ones ever looked this beautiful ...
Sri don't take it to office or outside...Keep it under covered and protected parking..
If " The devil is in the Detail ", Sri, you are a Devil in Outstanding Restoration....

Immaculate is the word that first came out of my mouth when I say the bike. Simply superb.Congrats and keep the pictures posted.
Sriram: Just a thing I wanted to tell you, don't take it otherwise please.
The RX-100 originally came with buffed front forks, head cover, brake drums and levers (brake and clutch). This really would go well with the color that you have chosen. Also, i notice the 2T fuel gauge not showing full, an trouble there.
Nice one there Ram with the after effects.

Thanks Asif. I was informed about how RX100 came with buffed parts. I chose not to, since I had no idea of quality of work rendered or probably don't want to take chances.Originally posted by asif View PostImmaculate is the word that first came out of my mouth when I say the bike. The 2T fuel tank works perfect. 2 reasons. 1. If it is full, might take time to see any change in oil level until it hits the guage window to show the dip. So thought would just fill half liter of oil to notice the difference. Also, adding oil to the tank to ensure that I don't kill myself.

Still waiting for more pics.
Now, I am completely confused about colours. I will call you to discuss on this.
Worst possible 2T Nitesh would have suggested because of running-in period. Low quality mineral oil would let the rings seal to the piston well?? Correct me Doc, if I am wrong.
Agree with psr Sir there. Do not take it to any place where you don't have covered + secure parking. Even though you may say in today's era of 'sports bikes' nobody looks at these oldies, trust me we have too many people with too much curiosity.
