  • A problem and am i little bit confused.
Problem : I have a RX-100 and of late the bike is not behaving as usual. The problem is when i keep the bike in half throttle there is a lot of fluttering, but this is not the case incase the throttle is opened fully. The bike is also struggling to go over 70, though there is no sign of fluttering at WOT.
Since the bike was standing for about 15 days i got the carb cleaned and this time also the reed-valves. But the problem still persists. There is no sign of wear on the reeds, they seem to be in good condition. My mechanic says that it could be a problem with the piston rings and he will have to open the head to check for any damages. I have a standard bore and wanted to know if the problem could be due to the piston rings.
    Please Suggest.

    • Check the emulsion tube in the carb. The mechs almost never clean it. and get the carb tuned later. I dont think its the rings. Get the compression checked if in doubt.

Nitesh, you mentioned the emulsion tube. Which I guess is the needle jet. I am not able to remove this frigging thing from my carb (RX100 VM20). I tried beating it gently from the other side with the handle of a screwdriver, but it refuses to come out.

I am pretty sure before I started DIY on my bike, no mechanic/service centre has bothered to clean the needle jet; even the pilot jet was pretty much in abused status.

I have read on the Net to tap the needle jet from the other side and it will drop out LOL, not happening in my carb. Also read about inserting a dowel pin and beat with hammer, but not sure where to get a suitable dowel pin from.

Any help on removing the needle jet will be much appreciated guys!

+220000 to that! It's the jet needle actually, when the damn thing wears out carburetion in the mid throttle range goes into shits, to remove the needle jet remove the mains and beat the damn thing out with a screwdriver I used an ice puck to pull it out but you can gently tap it out as well. It'll come out underneath the carb right where the mains screws in it won't go the other way. My $0.02 replace the needle as well, get an original needle micarb needles are short I am looking for an OE needle as well micarb is a bit lean

The carb has been cleaned, also the needle jet and the bike has been tuned.

Sadly i have no access to a gauge.I guess since its been 5 years now will open the bore and will d-carbonize it and will also get to see the condition of the bore.

Try some WD-40 and gently tap the needle jet form the side of the main jet. Take care not to damage the threads for the main jet. If youve got a used damaged spare main jet, screw it in , loosen it a thread or two and tap the main jet.

Also check for air leaks from the manifold, head and exhaust. Compression guage can be found with most car garages.

                    • Searched for engine oil thread, couldn't find. So posting it here.

I feel my gearbox (RX135 4speed with 450kms on ODO) heats up quite a bit after prolonged ride in bumper to bumper traffic. Toying with the idea of using 20W50 grade so that the oil doesn't thin out at high temperatures.

Is this a good idea? If yes, what would be some of the oils I could use of 20W50 grade?

Heat issues is fine provided it is not happening on a short ride. Also, it take some time for the engine to get used to it. If you ask me, after 2-3 oil change would expect the heat issue to mellow down. What's the plug reading right now? Hope you are adding little extra oil during this initial phase.

NO need to change to 20w50 oil.

                        • Thank You Sriram for the inputs.

Heats up after 8-10kms/30mins ride. I will post the plug chops shortly.

Adding extra oil, you mean 2T right? Yeah, I do that. But my worry is more on transmission oil front.

                          • actually adding more than necessary is counter productive, let it run in on the pump

                            • There is no harm running little extra oil. Try this for couple of 100 kms and see.

could you elaborate on the 100kms thing? break in lasts for 1000kms Why add extra oil for just the first 100kms? FYI Sriram rings seal up in the first 60-70kms
