@ Mik - my answers in bold. Hope it helps. Also you can try to fax the docs to any hotel owner in Leh to get the permits. We actually had contacted a hotelk owner from Leh and he had agreed to do this way. But we did not get time to fax and all so went in Leh and got the permits cleared by noon and did K-Top and back. The first post of this thread is our group and we left to Leh via Srinagar route from Delhi on 30 May.

Thanks Deepan. That was informative. Let me rejig some plans and post it again, later. About the permits, a fauji friend of mine will be getting it done. Just need to know, what is the format. Is it some specific form or just an application which can be typed in.
Also, i believe one needs to write all the places which might be visited. The list i have is
Tso moriri
Pangong Tso
Hundar (just in case)
Batalik (just in case)
Dah and Hanu village.
Khardungla ?

Any other places to be included.

bike trip to delhi to srinagar,zanskar valley,ladakh.

starting from this week .

our itinary is like that may be some changes if any of our friends wants to:

day 1: delhi to udhampur,group meet at panipat as i am coming from rohtak and they from delhi,stay at udhampur.

day 2:udhampur to sonmarg lunch at world famous peera morh yummy rajmah chawal with chutney and dinner in sonmarg enjoying bonfire with chinar rum.

day 3:sonmarg to kargil to rangdum.

day 4:rangdum to padum (zanskar valley)

day 5: padum

day 6: padum to kargil.

day 7:kargil to leh.

day 8 :leh arrange permits.

day 9:leh to nubra valley

day 10:nubra valley

day 11:nubra valley to leh.

day 12:leh

day 13:leh to pangong.

day 14: pangong to leh.

day 15:leh

day 16:leh to keylong.

day 17:keylong to manali.

day 18:manali.

day 19:manali to delhi.

Called you yesterday but I guess you were busy. We (me & a friend of mine) are planning to go by end of July. The plan is to go via manali and come back via shimla, covering roughly around 1600 kms in 7 days. I will be making the travel plan and would request anyone who has done this route before to help.

We need some suggestions for day 5. Should we give ourselves some rest by just doing 68 Kms and resting at Kalpa or push towards Narkanda?

Manali to Kaza in one day will be almost impossible in one day - considering the conditions at Rohtang jot. For the 51 km ride from manali to rohtang jot - people are taking upto 7 hours nowadays. Check the bcmtouring thread on road updates.

From Kalpa, you should be taking a detour to Chitkul and end the day Sarahan maybe.
Sarahan to Delhi is approximately 14 hours.

Hence i would suggest
Day 5: Puh - Kalpa (Its worth spending the evening in Kalpa - specially with the valley reverberating with buddhist hymns and the best view of kinner Kailash)
Day 6: Kalpa - Tank up at powari - Chitkul - take a break there -Sarahan(17km up from jeori)
Day 7: Sarahan to Delhi --14 hours.
After the beauty of lahaul and spiti and Kinnaur, you will find places like narkanda and shimla very very boring.

No harm done Sir, lets see i believe i can do delhi- manali in 1 day. I 've been there in a car, bike will be challenge in this weather, lets see

Day 2: Rampur - Tabo (Long but doable in 13-14 hours)
Day 3: Tabo - Dhankar Monastary - Kaza and rest
Day 4: Kaza - Key/Kibber/Gette-Langza/Kaumik - kaza
Day 5: Kaza - Manali
Day 6: Manali - Delhi

,true but its going to get very very hectic with day 1 delhi-manali and day 2 manali-chandrataal--kaza. Manali ---chandrataal kaza route the roads are in real bad condition and at places no road , so you will have to leave very early in the morning to reach kaza , add traffic jam at rohtang and the fatigue from day before. also i wonder why would you want to go to chandrataal according to you plan your hardly even have time to go there and enjoy a cup of tea @ chandrataal

its gonna be very difficult and you will just end up doing a cross country /dakkar rally kind of a trip.. but if that is what your plan is then all i can say is all d best ...!!!

Guys I'm leaving for leh from Udaipur on 25th June Morning......
I need some suggestion, I'm using Saddle bag first time and i found that it is touching my Pulser 200's Silencer, will it be OK or bag will get burn out by the heat of silencer?????
