Regarding crossing Rohtang i want to share my piece of info that there was nothing like permits & all. we easily crossed the barricade on the way to rohtang when cops have stopped other tourists .we just told them that we are moving to Leh ,they gave us smile and allowed us

Ok...!! I know about the permit but its not any big deal, one of my friend went to Manali on last Saturday and he told me about the permit. He told me that the SDM of Manali make all as such permits. All we need is permit to pass through Keylong.

Guys, just a novice query..has anyone tried Leh with a pillion??..under some unavoidable circumstances I hv to carry a pillion with me for the trip tentatively scheduled at 13 Aug to 31 Aug 2011. I will be taking Pune - srinagar - leh - shimla - delhi route! I ride Pulsar 180..hv previously done a 4500 km ride on same bike & pillion up north in Apr 2011! Also, i'm no better than a blank slate now on this subject and would need all the help! Thanking everybody in advance!

Hi Fellow XBHPIANs

I have confirmed that i would be heading to Leh this September, my leaves are approved tentatively 5th to 16th. Although i am trying my level best to extend to 3 weeks. If its approved i would be riding to Delhi otherwise transporting the bike to Delhi. My fellow group has already finished the ride in June and i am all alone.

Please let me know if anyone is willing to accompany me.

I just returned from the route you have mentioned. You may get that petrol in manali but the rest of the route you can forget about that quality of petrol. Not only that, but the petrol they do sell is also of not very good quality. And in most pumps the meter runs.
