Convert AC/DC bike to ALL DC.

dear abijeet,iam sorry as i was wrong,today only i found out the rr unit which was under the petrol tank,previously i was confusing cdi unit with rr unit.also opened the magneto cover and traced and photographed the coil windings.
in magneto there are 8 coils,all connected in series,with black being grounded and white being the end of 8th coil.yellow is tapped from 6th coil.now black,yellow,white goes to rr unit,red comes out of rr goes to battery as well as to cdi.yellow wire is connected to headlight parallel too rr input.when battery connected and rr unit removed also bike engine starts and runs.
now i need your suggestion,
1.unground the black wire in magneto,connect ape rr in white and black,feed output to big battery and cdi.put a xenon hid from battery.no need for changing winding.
2.wind all 8 poles with 19swg,unground magneto black,connect to ape rr,feed big battery from rr,use xenon hid or 65watts halogen,
of the above 2 methods,which do you suggest?i usually drive slow 35-40km/hr,and 15km/day usually.
i need your suggestion,thanks,awaiting your reply.

So I think you have a DC CDI, can you confirm that? Does removing the Battery + RR unit means that the bike does not start?

Also, the yellow wire from coil can not go to headlight directly. It has to be through the RR unit only.

Does your owner's manual have the electrical wiring diagram?

Ungrounding if possible, in your case should work fine for a HID. Did you take any picture of the coil?

Yes Sir,
1.if i disconnect both battery and rr unit,bike fails to start,alteast one that is either battery or rr unit is needed for running engine.
2.the yellow wire is connected to rr unit input as well as to the headlight.
3.my owner's manual doest have wiring diagram or spec relating to magneto.
4.iam posting the pictures i have taken.

i will buy a ape rr, unground the magneto wire,connect both end of coils wire to ape rr and feed the battery,now i have 2.5 ah battery,upto how much ah battery will this method support?now my 2.5ah battery is already very weak.what capacity of battery shall i buy?5ah or 7ah or 9ah?.because i will upgrade to hid,after some time.i will also convert to led tail lamps.if current after this modification is not enough,then shall i go for coil winding?

According to the diagram, do this -

1. Unground Black Wire. Verify that it is done correctly with a multimeter.
2. Remove old RR unit.
3. Connect White and Black as input to APE RR unit.
4. Connect O/p of new RR unit to Battery & Ground.
5. Connect headlight wire directly to battery.

Dont buy any battery as of now. Will advise you latter if needed. Rewinding may be needed if current is not enough. Leave it as it is for now.

And one thing, please double check the yellow wire. Be 100% sure that this connection is correct as per your diagram.

DC conversion+HID = avenger coil mod.

I'm back. hope you guys remebmer me.

Finally I got fed up with all the mess I did with my bike's electricals.

I changed the Mod to Avenger coil + Nightbreaker + Avy RR unit and new Headlamp.

the Brightness is comparable/same to car headlamp and the illumination is also good, even the on coming traffic Dim/dip If I am on High beam.

Will upload the pics soon.

If I were u, I wud;ve choosen the coil rewinding for 300/- instead of 550+ Avy coil and Philips Xtreme which is also a cheap in price but not in quality. ONB is priced so high and I dont think its worth to invest as the difference is very difficult to figure out except the colour tint.

thinking from the cost factor you are right.
I thought of the same before buying aVy coil, but My instinct stopped me to do so, was forced to stick to the OEM parts.

I learnt the importance of the Light Mod when I went to chikamagalore Trip in the first weekend of this month. we were forced to ride in the night for 80Kms long for more than three hours or so due to the twists and turns.

My friend's pulsar and Uni with stock Lights were struggling to make the way, that's where this Mod saved our day(night), the road illumination was superb and I was able to lead them all by making the way(felt proud to be a DIY XBHPian).

But I wont give-up on HID, waiting for leasure time to spend on the Mod.last time did it in a hurry.

It can be done - the RR unit will short the yellow wire to GND whenever voltage goes beyond the threshold.

But, atleast on Pulsars, it is not done this way, hence asked him to verify it.

i am unable to get ape rr unit even from authorised service as they are running out of stock,finally i had bought a delhi make ape rr,branded as lumax,the yellow wire out from it is very thin,but two white wire and one black wire are very thick.i doubt whether the yellow wire which is the output will withstand high currents?do you know any person from whom i can get a original ape rr unit online.

USE THE GENUINE RR UNIT ONLY.

Go to the APE PIAGGIO service centre for the RR which is sold for 1.1K. Like Abhi said, do not go for the local RR, I doubt its manufactured by Lumax. OE wires are same guage in all wires except the black as the bolting will take care of the grounding. How much u paid for this?

i bought it for Rs480/.before buying it i went to ape authorised service and requested for spare,they told me that they will fix it by themself and wanted me to bring the auto,i somehow fooled them telling its in garage and old rr lost somewhere after it has been removed by mechanic for repair.they charged me rs1140,and gave me a old rr unit,which was also out of pack,it was also not new,so i requested them to give me a new rr unit with sealed pack,they were not ready and they told me that it is out of stock,so i fought with them,got my money back,went in search of ape rr,but it is not in stock anywhere and in shops they say due to high cost,no body buys it and so they dont have stock.i dont mind spending a few hundred bugs xtra,if someone can get original ape rr for me,thanks,
