Yes, you will have to rewind the coil to drive a 55/60w bulb !!

First difference is that HID is a type of special bulb filled with xenon gas which lights up when it receives high voltage from a ballast.

Projectors are lenses which disperse the light effectively and cuts glare which is evident in reflectors.

Therefore one is high output light source (HID) while projectors are optical devices that distribute / disperse light over a range.

              Details
              1. HID , or high intensity discharge is a method of lighting where high electrical voltage (24,000V) is applied to a bulb full of xenon gas, therefore the resultant light output is a lot more than a standard halogen bulb where heat loss is significant.

HID's require a DC supply and initially draw high curent while the light output stabilises. HID bulbs should not be turned on / offf (aka flashing) like halogens as it will affect their life considerably.

On an average estimate , a HID with colour temp not more than 6000K will generate nearly 3x lumens (unit of light) more than a halogen bulb of same power consumption.

Projector lamps are nothing but devices which spread out light in a better way than reflectors. Projector lamps are essentialy lens dispersion setups.

              2. HID will be cheaper and better.

              Why ?
You can't just plug in a projector onto the ZMA, there will be several mods required for it as you'll have to fit the projector setup inside the headlamp, sacrificing the reflector. Also the issue of aligning it properly so that the beam is focused where it should be etc etc will be too much of a headache.

Not worth it. ALso if you dont have a decent projector (which in itself will be expensive) then there's no use having one.

HID's on the other hand are a direct fit on the ZMA since ZMA's lighting is dc. THe installation isnt hard and the person who from you buy HID from can themselves fix it. However just try to find out who all zma owners here have HID's on them for installation guidance.

HID's in 5000 ... hmm in bangalore you find chinese HID's without warranty for 1700, when i had got it back in 2008 it was 2600 then. The HID still works and illumination is great.

However I think a single beam HID (highbeam HID, low halogen) from philips or raylux is possible in the budget which are one of the best you can buy.

Other can shed more light on the brands im not too conscious about those.

with that budget you can easily get a Bi-xenon projector and a hid . but you will have to find someone to install them as it involves heating up the reflector assembly to separate the glass and install the projector or do it urself

Dude, I would recommend you to stay away from Bi-Xenon projectors if you do a lot of touring on highways at dark. You will be sacrificing high beam ability very badly.

Most of the projectors what we get are good for low beam. YES only low beam. If you can find a dedicated high beam projector only then it would make sense.

                            • hi, just a set of few queries...

I just bought a bike, a seconds Pulsar 150 2007 model. The problem is I have a bad battery(as suggested by mechanic). Also My first time on a bike, so am totally unaware about the techies...

                              - Continuing, I have a bad battery, even the self start fails at some times(mostly crucial moments). And the problem I wanted to ask is about my headlight, its too dim, I cant see 2 feet ahead of me at night, so I avoid night travel, but that is what I don wanna miss....

                              - So tell me, when I install HID or xenon lights, will I have to fit in a new battery?

                              - Also after I went thru this thread, what I have understood is that these xenon lights come in normal YELLOW, cop-catching WHITE/BLUE/etc colours.
So this yellow colour will seem normal right, I wont be stopped by cops or sporting anything illegal on my bike right?
I am not so into white xenon lights..

Varies from 500-1200 depending on person who rewinds.
In Bangalore, Ruby charges 950rs for rewinding + custom RR. 150rs for fitting and stuff. Approx Rs.1100/-
