    • How good is OSRAM BILUX HS1? Is it a worthy replacement for the stock Halonix bulb the Pulsar has?

Then connected the + ve of multimeter to the - ve of battery and connected the disconnected wire to the - ve of multimeter. Then selected dc current at 10A. The reading I got at idle was 0.32 and fluctuating. When revved it increased to around 0.52. I have a 9 ampere battery and at 10% the charging rate should be at 0.90 right? So am I doing something wrong here? I dont have those clips like you see on a battery for the multimeter. It has two needles and had to touch it with my hands to get the reading. I tried to lower the current to 200m and the reading was only 1. Please help. Raj
Procedure is correct. You are getting less current as the battery is fully charged and can not accept any more charge. Try it with a discharged battery and see the difference. (Simply blow the horn while taking the reading and see the difference).

        • Hi guys, I'm looking to upgrade the pathetic headlight on my R15. Am not interested in putting on a HID rightnow as the bike is new. But, can anyone suggest a suitable higher wattage halogen which can work on the R15?

          Thanks.

          • if you are not interested in hid, there is a very nice option.a normal 55/60 bulb we fitted in our r 15s left headlight unit.we unplugged the connections of the right one.by this way the bike uses only max 60 watts s of light in high beam which is less then 35 watt two lamps which was pu;llin 70 watts.the intensity of 1 55/60 bulb is very good compared to two 35 watts and the battery also stays happy.only disadvantage is you will not be using the other headlight, which lookwise to some not acceptable!!

the only other way is hid, which is brilliant all the way,r 15 can pull two yes 2 hids at a time!!contact to navnish if you need some.i am using the product which i brought from him ,its good.

Ok...i was thinking of doing something like that. I'm not bothered about how it would look as long as the light intensity and spread is good. Can a H4 bulb fit into the R15 holder? Coz the normal bulb spec is HS1 or something (am a noob when it comes to electronics and electricals). As far as HIDs go, i already have a kit with me from my previous bike. I'v read quite a lot about the R15 having a small 3.5Ah battery and that it will not be able to support a HID kit. How true is that?

h4 55/60 bulb is a straight fit. go with a h4 55/60 bulb from a reputed company like phillips or osram.it will be lovely.

ccoming to your other question.its actually not the battery ,its the charging that matters.r 15 is having a huge 18 pole coil which is three phase pumps out enough juice that it can run 2 35 watt headligh bulbs,2 ,3 watt position lamps, one 5/21 watt tail lamp, fuel injecter and pump, bunch of leds, horn, indicator, self start, radiator fan!just add those up and you will be amazed what the japs had acived.even the system is so full proof that there isnt a kick also to staRT the engine!!.

mate r 15 is having a 160 watt charging section which is more then enough to feed hid.ITS NOT THE BATTERY,ITS THE CHARGING THAT MATTERS!
r 15 can pull 2 hid with ease if the rpm is more then 5 k and it will run all day,no prob!

                • Better lights for Honda Dio

Hi Guys! I have a Dio that is used by my dad. As most of you would know, the stock headlight sucks.

Could you please suggest a better bulb, preferably with stock ratings (higher would also do). Also if you can let me know the availability & price.

Wow...dint know these details. Sounds great. I have a coupe of Osram 55/60 bulbs lying around. Will try them on soon. But the fact that the electrics can support 2 HIDs is quite an enticing prospect . How is the wiring done for this? I'm guessing direct connection to the battery with the supplied harness in the HID kit and all?

Higher rating bulb with stock electricals is useless. No matter which bulb u put in stock rating, it won't help you much.

If the Dio is old and if you have regular bulb you can replace with Philips Halogen which will be better than conventional bulb.

Is it recommended to change the elctricals? What all does it involve?

My Dio is about 5 yrs old, & its the regular bulb. Haven't had to replace the stock bulb yet.
Is the Philips halogen one of those glaring ones that might end up in trouble with B'lore cops? Is it a straight fit, & what would be the cost?

                        • So after just a week of owning the R15, i got fed up with its pathetic headlight. As per a few recommendations from drvmtm, i'v put on 55/60w bulbs. Only change is that instead of just one, i'v put it into both the lamps. I just disconnected the high beam wire out of the left socket. So now, the LHS lamp works when on low beam and the RHS works when on high. Spread and reach seems to good but i'm yet to try it out properly on a total dark road. Any ideas how long the reflector will last? coz i'm sure the 55/60w bulbs r gonna produce a lot more heat than 35/35w bulbs.

                          Comment

                          • ^ Problem is not with the reflectors, but with battery drain. In city traffic, the battery doesn't get charged well and the 55/60 bulbs can drain the battery soon. Better go for HID, connects directly to the battery, so should not void warranty.

nice mod.dont wprry about the heat.the 55/60 bulbs are the cutoff in case of heat melting reflectors.all the cars with plastic reflectors are coming up with 55/60 watt rated bulb.

                              and

                              @hifisharu-
no,the battery dosent get drained even with a load of 2 stock headlights on in city in a r 15.the total load is 35*2=70 watts there, and here we are using 55-60 watt.we are saving 10-15 watts.the battery will not drain.
