first check the fuses in the hid circuit. there should be one.
then see if the relay is switching or not. this you can check by switching between high and low beam and there should be a tick tick sound everytime.

if both of these things are ok then most probably your ballast has gone bad. see if you can source another ballast from a friend or someone.

    • Guys , i ride an apache 150 and i am not at all satisfied with the headlight spread and intensity. I am planning to go for a 55w halogen bulb . Is it the right choice. As far as i know , the apache has a HS1 bulb. Do i need to fit a relay too ? Which bulb should i go for ( company )

I have no idea about electrics therefore i cant take any chances to screw up my bike. Please help me .

The battery i have is from Lucas TVS maintenance free ( 12v, 9 AH ).

Otherwise the other option would be to go for HID's. Please help

      thanks

      • i have rtr 180 which has AC/DC system, I wanted to know can we connect the wire from the magneto powering the headlight to the battery for charging via separate RR,so that battery gets complete 90w for charging from the two RR's and connect the headlight and other ac connections directly to the battery. Will it harm the electricals or battery.IF this can be done will connecting another stock RR of Apache do.Reason I am asking this is because i want to run a 55/60w halogen bulb, the most economical way.

theoretically, your battery produces 108W. But considering losses the final output must be around 100W. Since all apache stators have 8 poles in them, the power will be distributed equally with battery getting power from 4 poles for charging itself and AC lighting getting its power from other 4 poles. So do a wattage count of everything and see if your battery can pull a 55/60 W bulb. Philips' x-treme Power bulbs and Osram Nightbreaker bulbs both are good.

AFAIK, the AC lighting system of all apaches are the same(except 180 ABS which is full DC) So no need to wory about the changes.
if you want to think about HIDs then refer the text below and follow the link given.

What you are asking is can the bike be converted to fully DC. yes, that is very much doable. the link given below explains on that. But if you are going to do that then many people here (including me) would suggest you to pump in some extra money and get a good projector + bi-xenon HID combo. It is much better than 55W and you get a stable beam at all times. And to top that the headlight looks much more sophisticated. Total cost will be around Rs. 5-6k for entire mod i think. Check out this link:
electrical modification, convert apaches to full dc with power to run hids all day!
But if you are hell bent on going for 55/60, then you can simply lose the pilot lamps and licence plate lamps and switch to 55/60. If that doesnt work ie if you arent getting full brightness, then get the stator rewinded with thicker wire. But as you just want to boost power for the headlights only, you will have to rewind only the 4 poles which support the headlights. This will cost you max Rs 300 (excluding bulbs).

BUT KEEP IN MIND, ANY CHANGE TO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY. If your bike is in warranty then do something which is easily reversible within 5-10mins.

Thanks for the suggestion, so for the time being will fix 55/60 bulb and get rid of of extra watts.Meanwhile will hunt scrapyard for projectors after that convert to full dc and fix hid's.
Went through nanotechnology's thread also very informative.

well thank you so much for the info. I also read the tread which was for the DC conversion done on the apache. Well the end result is that i will wait for sometime and convert my bike to full DC and maybe i will go with HID's later on.

Lastly any idea how much the DC conversion would cost ?

                • can i install a philips 55/60W headlight lamp in my XCD 125 ?

i want to install philips ultra vision H4 or osram night breaker bulb in my bikes headlight. but whats worrying me is will it cause battery drain? as i use self start and i have already installed two horns in my bike. and since i am using an good brand battery there has hardly been any issues regarding charging of the battery or battery drain.
till now what i have thought over what if i install a relay with 55/60w lamp to save current consumption. will it be possible to go for?
i live in chandigarh want to know if there is any dealer from where i can get these lamps?? i tried the huge sector 48 motor market but couldnt find one there.
