what are the mods done on you P200 in regards to making DC power for your HID setup?

      • Hello there.. I have a Suzuki GS150R. The headlights are useless !! Anyone know an effective solution without draining too much battery ? Can we use OSRAM Night Breaker or Philips Vision Plus without causing too much load ? I guess I have 35W electricals and Halonix Headlamp, not sure though. I dont want to change the electricals but want a better head lamp than the one existing without overloading battery.

        • Friends,
          I too own a GS150R & the stock bulb is a 35/35w Halonix.I changed it to a 35/35w Philips & got little improvement.But I wanted to know if I can install a 55/60w bulb.The bikes electricals are NOT DC.

Can I directly fit a 55/60w bulb OR do i need to make any mods like coil winding & et etc ,which will obviously void my warranty.

Else can I run aux lights directly from the battery which will again void my warranty.

I do not want to install any HID.

Please tell me what should i go with & which will be a better option.

          Thanking in advance.

          Vishal

            Hey Rahul,
I seriously don't know man, as one of my friend took my bike for the same. There is a 2 way switch for the Bi-Xenon and is in DC and can be operated without starting the bike, but with the iginition key on! Rest is fine, the only problem that i'm facing now is that rectifier output when the HID is on is kind of low which is 12.86v while i'm getting 14.56v @ 5000 rpm if the HID's are kept off!! Any suggestions to improve the rectifier output???? Tried swapping the pilot lamps to LED's and not much difference so back to stock on that!!!

tell me, does bike self start if you keep your hid on ? the engine overhat icon could be related to wiring in that case, secondly have you made a custom rectifier or are you talking about the stock rectifier? use led in your pilot lamp in any case.

                  rahul,
The bike does start when the HID is kept on. I'm talking about the stock rectifier which is giving some low current output when the HID is on. I tried LED lamps, the difference was very minimalby some 0.4v.

I think your HID is consuming the power which results in your output dropping, but in any case you must be draining your battery faster than its charging, Does battery hold charge after say 3 hours of night riding? have you thought of building a custom rectifier?

Sorry Rahul, never been riding for a continuous 3 hrs with HID on I do wanted to build a custom rectifier provided if i get guidance from u!

Am planning to install a 55/60w bulb this weekend to test it.Will let you know if there is any difference & whether GS can take the 55/60w bulb.

i'm always glad to help in HID department, but i guess you have already been through the threads which mention the custom rectifier. Without tapping the power of head light to charge the battery, battery will eventually die. Any specific area where you need guidance?

                            • @vishal: 55/60W bulb won't make much differenc too, because machine is giving only 35W to headlight bulb, so even if you put in high wattage bulb, it will get only 35W bulb. You need to do some power shedding by removing the pilot lamps. However that will improve only 10W, as the pilots are 5W each. Also, there is no other light that can be removed from bike to add to load shedding.

Anyway, interested in seeing the results. Make sure you click before and after photos. Which bulb are you using? I recommend Osram Silverstar, costs some 175 bucks.

Thanks Animeher for the reply.I understand that the bulb will only get 35w as the electrical systems are designed like that. Will surely try removing the pilot lamps & then check out the diffrence.

I read your travelogue where you had been to Srivardharn & you had also mentioned that the headlight was not good.

BTW right now am using a 35/35w Philips Made in Germany & costed me Rs.110/- didnt try the Osram.

Also do you give a second thought on running aux lights through the battery??

Oh & yes I am planning to visit Pune the next weekend 18-19 June.If you want we can meet some place.Just let me know.
