I tried the NB with 55/60 alternator and I say that I'm not extremely happy. The beam is ok, but still not strong enough for the night. I need something more brighter with a stronger beam. I was thinking of getting a clamp fitting from the top part of the fork and fit in a casing to install a HID. Now there are complications, mine is not a DC unit(P200), and I've heard innumerable problems for non DC run bikes. Any ideas of a reliable place to convert to DC? And it has to be reliable, otherwise I'm missing the whole point.

Hi guys, gone through few pages on this thread, but i kind of need a direct perspective from someone who has done some lighting work on a RTR:
I am thinking of getting the pilot lamps removed, they dont serve any imp purpose. My main purpose, is to get an Osram Nightbreaker for the high beam. I mainly need it for my daily travel at night over hosur road traffic. So, its not for long durations of lighting and hence i dont think there should be any concern on battery drain times.
Also, is it possible to get just one of those Osram Nigthbreaker lamps in blore. Any pointers for this?

, i just want to convert my Pilot Lamps from ac to Dc to put leds in them . if i try to make a custom unit myself how much will it cost ?

One of my friend picked up a single OSRAM night breaker from JC Road.... There both the double and single packs were available.... Once you enter JC road from Minerva Circle, take left at the signal (if you take right you will reach Urvashi Theater) than take second right .. If I am remembering correctly it was the third or the fourth shop on the left side.M.R.B

Does anyone here have a considerably good knowledge of HID bulbs and their ballasts? If yes, please consider the following cases:
1)What'll happen if 2 HID bulbs are connected in parallel to a single ballast?(I'm expecting a higher current requirement which might lead to problems..but what are the problems?)
2) Can we switch a single ballast's ouput supply(only the +ve side) between 2 HID bulbs intermittently? Will the ballast automatically detect a cold HID bulb and adjust the voltages and current?(I mean, if the ballast has a continuous supply at the input side, and it's output side is switched between two bulbs using a relay).
3)Is the 25kV peak given only at startup irrespective of the bulb's warmness/coldness? Won't the ballast give the peak again if its output side is disconnected from the bulb and reconnected again?(Keeping the input supply constant and uninterrupted)
4)What'll happen if the HID bulb is ignited without a 25kV peak?

I dont think it can work. The RTR has a 35 W light bulb. That is why i thought of saving the pilot lamp 5W each - they dont serve any practical purpose. But i wanna know if that will do any good?

So, if u just plonk in the Night Breaker, u wont get the desired/possible output cos it is running on a lesser wattage!When everything comes ur way, u r in the wrong way ;)

But output would be fine if the bike is held above 5000RPM. AFAIK.
I am thinking of changing the ones on my Xtreme to Osram.
