  • Re: Let there be Light : Bike Lighting, HID etc

Anyone with decent knowledge of LEDs, i need help.

I am thinking of doing LED setup for my v1 tail. Something like this one right here.

Hobby Circuits: Yamaha YZF R15 custom LED Tail Lamps

Problem with red LED is that it is already emitting red light, white LED in the red outer casing lens would definately appear more bright and adequately red.
But white LED consume more voltage so I can't use the same resistors, the design needs to be changed a bit. I am thinking of using white LEDs connected in series of around 3 or 4 maybe if possible. Then connect such strings in parellel to the brake and tail lamp connections. Due to my limited knowledge of this LED thing, I am not able to figure out resistor required for a single strip.

Assuming around 3.5V for single typical white LED, connecting 3 (note: 4 impossible) such LED in series consuming ,say 20mA current with a 12V supply.
so I guess calculations would be

    [12- (3x3.5)] / [20mA] = resistor value R

    ^^^ is this correct?
    Inputs needed.

      Hii Guyz

I want to fit HID kit on my new xtreme purcahsed a month ago. Pls tell me from where can i get the kit and from whom shud i get it installed. Will this drain the battery???? Does this kit need modification in the wiring or is a clap on unit. Also i wud like to fit dual horns on my xtreme. Will the original battery handle the HID as well as the dual horn unit efficiently.

Wiring modifications will definitely void your warranty.
You can go for pulser series horn s since it doesn't require any wiring change
        Choice is yours

          • Let there be Light : Bike Lighting, HID etc

Recently done a LED add-on to my Pulsar 220 for better night visibility.

These are 2 good looking LED Bulbs.
            Led cost : 800rs
            Installation time : 7 minutes
Wire connection time : 4 minutes
            Each consumes 5W power.
            Total consumption = 10W
            Color of light : White
            Brightness : Very very bright
Can be used as Daytime Running Light also.

            The setup :
This is connected to the Pilot / parking lights. With a extra switch to toggle between Pilot lights with Led & only Pilot lights.

I was a bit worried about the extra 10W load on battery. I had plans of changing Normal Indicator Bulbs to LED Bulbs also for saving some Watts.

But the main reason of installing these LED's is my Low-beam / projector is now full of dust after 3.5 years of usage.

When I switch on my extra led lights. The stock low beam is completely useless. I cannot even see the difference of a 55W bulb switching on or off.

So I'm not using my low-beam anymore.
It's a direct saving of 55W and at the end I'm still having 45W in saving account.
If by chance in future I get to change / clean my headlight assembly (which I'm looking forward too), I can imagine something very good !

And now we both are Happy

When I look into them, while they are On.
                1 looks brighter than other.
But actually somehow, 1 is spot light while the other is flood light.

Yes the on-comers might feel bad, but for that reason I've placed them at such lower place (Number Plate Position) & then tilted them a bit down.

The incomers can feel bad even if they look at a Passion / discover headlight direct for 2-3 seconds.

^^ I also have a pair of those, they're going inside my headlights for the pass function only when the projectors are off, when the projectors are on, they will automatically be disabled. This should save my ballasts and hid's wear and tear. I paid 900 for the pair, have seen online for over 3000.
You could also try spraying the outer casing black, it would look much better!

Beware of Bread, don't say I didn't warn you!
More than 98 percent of convicted criminals are bread eaters !
Statistics show that more than 75 % of violent crimes are committed within 24 hours of eating bread !
Bread is known to be extremely addictive. Subjects deprived of bread and given only water, actually begged for bread after just two days !
Bread has been proven to kill. Scientists have now uncovered alarming evidence that 100% of the people who eat bread will eventually die !

Yes Black is always the best.
I've seen 1 of my friend's same light. He did the normal Spray Can paint.
These lights do not get much warm but the spray paint was chipping off.
So I'll do something better very soon.

The setup you are doing is also very good.
Post some pics after its done!

And I'm about to set these also in my Bike.
Sorry, we couldn’t find that page

I have pair of those installed on my RTR'S crash guard but mine are 10w each and belive me the 10w ones put out three times more light than these.
Since my bike's coil has been rewinded and rr replaced, I am running a 55w hid and a pair of these 10w leds.
I havent faced any prob of battery drainage till now

My concern is, will it have any impact on the wiring of the bike and will I have any issues during my long rides.

Note: My unicorn is just 10 months old.
Did you get any additional lights done ? I noticed you are in Bangalore , I am searching for a similar setup . I had been to JC road for window shopping . I noticed all sorts of lights starting from 500Rs all the way upto 5000Rs . None of them come with any sort of warranty or guarantee. I did come across some good quality LED light in Jayanagar 4th block . The seller quoted 5k a pair and since it was LED , it will not have any effect on the stock battery too (thats what the seller claimed atleast). Please let me know if you come across any good quality light .
I ride CBZ xtreme and the stock headlights are useless.

                            • Duke 200 Battery Query

Hi, My battery is up for replacement. The battery spec for the 200 is :
Battery: 12V, 8Ah, VRLA, zero maintenance.

I want to know if say I go for an HID+ projector setup in the future, would it be beneficial to get a higher spec battery installed? Is this even possible ? As in would there be a problem in the electricals if a higer voltage battery is installed?
If not then roughly what should be specs of this higer spec battery usually sufficient to support an HID/projector setup? I haven't yet decided on what my HID setup would be yet!!

And also, what is the most recommended battery brand? Exide? Amaron?

Few people say Amaron is better than Exide. For me, Exide has always been on the +1 side.

Also which bike are you talking about ?

The higher capacity battery will not harm your wirings & electrical's. It will give them their desired current. But, the higher capacity battery will demand for higher charging capacity for sure. You might have to work on your coil / charging thing for that. xBhp has a lot of info on that I guess.

I have seen like 20+ HID setups on my friends bike. And to be True, none of the are 100% fail proof / Safe to run with.
HID's does drain your battery if you are moving in slow speed, they will eat your battery if you switched them on battery mode (when bike is Off).

Whenever you get it. Do the homework on net first & then get it done from some good mechanic.
The Jugaad work sucks, and then you start to hate HID.
