AUX Light
Another thing I forgot to mention is that I want to add some kind of aux lamp as warning light/additional light source. As my bike is hardly a month old, I don't want to go inside her guts and start ripping and cutting wires, I was thinking like doing it with the smallest impact possible. These lights are available on ebay-Originally posted by anindyameister View PostGuys I am also interested in fitting SMD led bulbs in my TBTS as pilot lamp and tail lamp. The bulbs available on ebay are straight fit or some modifications needed for TBTS pilot lamp and tail lamp holder ? Also what kind of bulb should I buy ? wedge type or normal bulb base type ?

My idea is to use zip ties to fix these to my crash guard and connect the wires to my pilot lamp switch. Do you guys think this is a good idea ?

^^ if you don't feel like doing it then don't. Originality is the best option
but in case a bulb fuses, you'll have to replace it by opening it only and I think there's no more than 1 or 2 screws to open :-)
In my case, I just have to remove a rubber cover to get access to the pilot bulbs. whenever I went for servicing, I replaced the smd leds with OEM bulbs so that the svc people don't have anything to say about warranty being void, etc :-)
just make sure these electrical modifications don't void your warranty.
you can use fevi-quik or Araldite, etc to fix them along with cable-ties :-)

thx for the advise mate. I'll remember to revert all my modifications before I go to service. and do you think these aux lights will be of any help while riding or just for show-off ? I mean they have only 12 LEDs and I don't think thats gonna light up the road much.Originally posted by Prakritij View Post^^ if you don't feel like doing it then don't. LED lights don't provide any illumination for real World applications of Bikes. to light up the Way, use the head lamp or any other filament based halogen or xenon filled lights.Originally posted by anindyameister View Postthx for the advise mate. I use LEDs because the OEM battery of my Bike is just sufficient enough to carry the load of the Bike's electricals and any additional load will drain it quickly. the OEM pilot lamps are of 5w each which add up to consume 10w total. by replacing them with 1 or 2w smd LEDs some power can be saved

Many thanks for clearing my mind. So led lamps can be seen as warning lamps or daytime running lamps, and real illumination can only come from halogen or hid lamps. I'll remember that. And the power saving might help as am planning to replace my 35/35W headlamp with 55/60W halogen.Originally posted by Prakritij View PostLED lights don't provide any illumination for real World applications of Bikes. to light up the Way, use the head lamp or any other filament based halogen or xenon filled lights.

thats what I was planning as the 35w lamps are not strong enough for Night or Rain Riding and I use the LEDs as day-time lampsOriginally posted by anindyameister View PostMany thanks for clearing my mind. Wrong !! When LED's can illuminate sufficiently for a Audi R8, bikes is not a issue IF you can afford those LED's.Originally posted by Prakritij View PostLED lights don't provide any illumination for real World applications of Bikes.
FYI - Audi R8 V10 becomes first all-LED car

confused between OSRAM Night Breaker & Philips X-Treme Power Bulb
Hi All,
i have been going through a lots of posts & talking to a lots of generous people out there to help me solve my lighting problem for Honda Unicorn..
finally i have come to a conclusion to go for coil rewinding..
Now i am confused between choosing the bulb.. i have narrowed down to OSRAM Night Breaker+ & Philips X-Treme Power. Also i dont know what does H4 & H7 mean.. so which one should i go for..?
It would be a great help if anyone can inform me where can i get these in Mumbai/Thane area & also what would be the approximate value...?
Guys please pitch in your valuable inputs..
Thanks in advance...

I think the NB and X-Treme are both 60W bulbs. I don't know if uni has DC or not. If no, then check if your stock bulb is 60W. If it is something like 35W and you don't have the headlight connection coming from the battery, I think you'll have to get your magneto's headlamp coil rewound. Another option you can try is to go for HID. They consume less power and produce bright white light, but HID is not a very good idea if you don't want to void your warranty or mess with the electricals too much. H4 and H7 are bulb socket types. Try to see the letters on the base of your current bulb. If they say HS1 or H4 then you can go for a H4 socket type bulb.Originally posted by Grishm View PostHi All,

400$ for the headlamp ? YIKES !!!!
With that amount we can make a HID array.

H4 and H7 means socket, Honda bikes have H4 socket and Pulsar 220 uses H7 Socket. So You have to buy H4 Socket bulb,Osram Night Breaker is the best among two.Its nearly 350rs.Originally posted by Grishm View PostNow i am confused between choosing the bulb.. i have narrowed down to OSRAM Night Breaker+ & Philips X-Treme Power.
