I have decided to go for a RE Classic but am confused between 350 and 500 and did a mistake of taking test ride of 500 !
I will use this as my primary bike for commute (~55kms daily)
I will go for touring once in a month or once in 2 months.

Will it complain if i use CL 500 more in city ?
First the mamooth call is 55kms daily, where as CL500 would give you average of close to 25-30kmpl.
Comfort on 350 or 500 are same apart from TBTS. Now the question is can you live with 25kmpl ?? where as petrol is Rs75/lit ?? it means you have to spend more or less 2.2 liters in CL500 which will cost you approx Rs170 daily.

    Now CL350 or any 350cc

This model gives same avaerage across, whether it's TBTS or normal Electra/CL/STD. i.e 30-35kmpl in city and 40kmpl+/- on highways.

The price difference in these two 350 and 500 is approx 40K.

No you decide if average is not effecting you then anytime CL500, If you are more concern on comfort then TBTS, My personal opinion would be Electra as you can get that more quickly then CL.

    Now major things:
All knows that RE is a comfortable ride bike.
    But what about ??
    1. Speed ??it's good in between 80-100kmph, beyonf 100kmph it's not stable!! (Mostly any 150cc bike can over take him??)
    2. Handling ?? (RE is very bad in high speed handling)
    3. SVC and manitenance now RE approx same to other bikes in this segment. But Still few RE shows oil leakages after 1-2yrs depends on vaery rare cases but true.

Why a RE fan goes for RE??
He loves the style of RE, huge and full metal. Are you ??
He loves the riding posture straight like a King on road, Are you??
He don't care for the speed or race, He rides in his own world, Will you ??
He don't care for the average, Will you ??
He knows there are better bikes in market but still RE love is holding to ride RE, What's your case ??
RE is missing the previous Thump and Sound, does this care for you ??
RE has the best Torque for hills and highways with pillion, where it scores high points, This will be more comfortable while touring with pillion than any bike!
But Yes this bike will last for ever ?? You can customise this bikes very esily, many aftermarkets parts available.

CL500 is the best RE bke today from RE but average sucks, I too have booked CL350, planning to switch TB500. But i strictly believe that RE CL500TB500@ 1.72L/1.6L is waste, where as you have CBR in same leaque!!

    Choice is your??

    • My 2 week experience with Electra UCE

      Hi All

I have taken an Electra UCE last week after a wait of 3 months in Bangalore. Am damn happy to use it or rather I create reasons to use my Bull. I have read many threads on comparisons between Electra UCE and Classic 350. I had ride both the C350 and Electra and I have felt the below points:

Comfort: I felt Electra a bit better than C350, because of the long step seat. In C350, I tend to slip back a bit due to single seat.

Handle Bar: In Electra, you have got an elevated Handle for wider hand strech, while in C350, you have a standard handle. Lookwise, it might go good with C350, but for longer cruise I felt elevated handles would give more comfort as it is in TBTS.

Tyre Size: There is a long debate in tyre size in Electra and C350. Yes, C350 has got wider tyres than Electra and it might be giving a bit better acceleration as well compared to Electra. But RE would have made researches to fit 3.25x19" tyres for Electra and it gives enough comfort for Electra rides. Only thing to make sure is to fit MRF tyres for durability than factory fitted Dunlop Tyres. Luckily mine came with factory fitted MRF tyres for Front and Rear

Modifications: Since Electra comes with more chrome fittings, its much easier to make modifications than compared to any models of RE. If people feels that there a gap between rear mudguard and tyre, it can be replaced with a Standard Chrome back mudguard (Quality Metal Industries Products - Mudguards)
A chrome head light shade, chrome side stand and a chrome saree guard can add a real retro look to the Electra model, but some feels its too much a chrome.

I didn't see any reason for me to change the silencers eventhough there is not enough thump. As an environmental rider, I feel we should support RE's compliance with pollution norms. Having said that, there are a lot of after market options to change the silences after a couple of intial services. The popular choices of silencers are Short Bottle and Sans Inc silencers.

Cons: These are actually not Cons, but places where RE could have improved in Electra Models for the price of the Bull we pay.
      • A fuel gauge: as this is a default meter in all vehicles these days. Gone are those days, you open the petrol tank and see the level of petrol. I don't believe this would be a costlier affair for RE to input in all models
      • Rear veiw Mirrors: These are pretty sub-standard quality (not in looks), as they vibrate a lot while on the move and its pretty difficult to see the rear view clearly
      • Front forks and Mudguard: For a heavy vehicle like Electra, RE could have retained the same style of forks and Mudguards as it is in C350 or Standard 350 models, which will give a broader fork hiding the shock absorbers and a thicker mudguard. Current models of Electra have a thinner front mudguards.
Everything else, is just a boon for Electra. Its so retro in looks, feels like a King on the road (no exaggeration here). Many other bikes will overtake you easily on the roads, but not to worry, bullets are not for that purpose and every ride, it gives a feel which is very personal to those who owns and ride a Bullet.

I have attached a couple of my Electra Pics.

Knocking off 350 from my list die to looooong waiting period and due to small pillion seat, no one liked it at my home.

Thanks for you reply I took a test ride of electra. Couldnt notice any other difference except handle bar which can be adjusted in CL model also. I Will book electra and wait for TB500. if its in reach (<1.7~8) will go for it and keep my RTR as my primary bike. Although many dealers say they are expecting it to be 1.9~2

Exactly ! I feel STD bullet and electra are more retro than Classic.
Where did you book your ride ? Brand store Jayanagar ? Many say its 4-6 months !

If only RE allowed customisation I want STD bullet + disc + starter + headlight assembly of TBTS with tacho meter

And what is the mileage factor right now ??

@ MHG: I booked it in Teknik Motors in Bangalore and the OTR was Rs.125473/-
Mileage ...... I have not started noticing it yet. The sales guy at the showroom told me it will give only 30-35 kmpl till the initial services.

              • Ok now I am confused. According to this link Bullet : 350 Twinspark vs Electra Twinspark - Team-BHP some say Bullet Std 350 is better than any other 350s because of higher weight crank ! is it tru > i though RE manufactured only 2 types of engines 350 & 500 which were used in all bikes. SOme one throw light on this please.

EDIT : http://www.royalenfield.com/motorcyc...s.aspx?model=6 Its true it has a heavier crank ! So how does this make it better from other 350 UCE bullets ? Better pull ?

OTR includes insurance and registration and all that right ? Could you confirm the prices of STD 350, TB 350 and CL 350 as well ? I wanted to compare Bangalore prices...

Bullet STD 350 UCE does not have front disc brakes or self start (which IMO are serious requirements in a modern bike) and do consider the cost retrofitting these adds up to. As for the crank I have no data.

                          Thanks a lot!

By the way, do you happen to know what it costs to fit Self Start and Front Disc brake onto a Bullet 350 ? I'm wondering if it'll come under 15k (which is the difference between Bullet 350 and Electra 350).

Yeah, you are right as the difference would only be that much. But the real difference is in the way the local mechanics fit it. If it comes factory fitted, there would be less to worry than its getting fitted locally.
