Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Amazing idea I must say. I used my Samurai's crash guard (the 3-bar type) AS a footpeg once. Was very comfortable. Problem is, though its comfortable, it takes time to bring legs to rear brake or gear or the ground and this is dangerous in city (even if its a somewhat empty road).

The improvements have been done in all the Classic 500 models. It has not been carried to Classic 350 as is was already stable, infact the Desertstorm's dimensions are now much close to that of Classis 350.
I did not know that classic 350 was already stable. And I guess Electra and TBTS should also be already stable ?

BTW, I was always curious about one thing. Some RE bikes have 18" wheels others 19" wheels at the rear right ? They all share same sprocketing or is it different for each RE bike (2012 versions) ?

Yes it is not advisable to use the extra footpegs in city riding..it can only be used on long lonely highways.

I guess Electra and TBTS have a 19" rear and the Classic 350 a 18" reart tyre but I am not sure about the sprocketing though..

            Anytime TBTS!!

Because it's VFM!!!...CL has only looks and rest performance are same in both. TBTS has more better futuristic console compare to CL.

TBTS is more comfortable on long tours where as CL is for city and tour. But Touring is comfortable with TBTS.
In city maneuring CL is more easy then TBTS. I find both same, but depends on every individuals. Both delivers the same mileage approx. TBTS is more different in looks compare to other RE's.
CL are now very common on roads.
TBTS is also pillion friendly, where CL has issues with pillion seating!! due to small seat.

Even i wanted to buy Electra, but family was mad for CL only!! don't know why?? So killed my feelings and went for CL. Else Elctra is far better than CL INMO.

Both have their own characteristics..TBTS is styled more like a cruiser which gives you a relaxed ride and IMO it is more comfortable. But it is hard to navigate in traffic, yet it is sold mostly in metros. It can be classified as a urban cruiser...
Classic's styling on the other hand is more retro, it resembles the early models of RE. Not very comfortable on really long rides (read 500kms+). It is easy to navigate in traffic.
My heart is with TBTS Silver, I had chosen Classic 500 only because of Power.

TB gives great comfort on riding in straight line, will be difficult in bumper to bumper traffic, I have seen few struggling to maneuver and just waiting along with cars than flick and go forward. CL is better in flicking and maneuvering but can't compare with any other regular bikes though.

Looks : oh yea CL is a clear winner here, it looks great when parked, and when rode. Thunderbird looks very big and its size doesnt really add value to its looks, also while riding the over all posture of hands and legs won't look good. Where as in CL a rider looks very gentle and stylish.

So it depends on your character and use of the vehicle, if the vehicle is just for long tours or in highway ride go for TB. If its for day to day commute in city and you wan't to look good for the eyes of girls , go for CL.
Its crime to ride a car alone, so I ride bike :).

If the fuel efficiency is similar, sprocketing should be different. If sprocketing is same, fuel efficiency of Electra should be higher than Classic. Hence my question.

Keen observation I must say, I will check it out at the ASC this time during my service.

Basically Sprockets helps in the accelearation! Why would be the difference in sprocket here ??

When the size and weight of classic 350 and elctra are same. So the mileage would also be same only. Yes Weight of 350 STD is less 180kg so it should produce more mileage then electra or classic. But i don't think sprockets are different in this models.

Because Classic 350 has 18" tyres (while all of its 350cc brothers have 19" tyres). Smaller rear tyres (with same sprocketing) increase acceleration and decrease mileage slightly. So to keep mileage same (weights of all RE models with exception of Bullet 350 are remarkably equal at 187kg) a small change in sprocketing would be required. Get it ?

Again only weight matters here!!, if CL is 187kg then what's the need of sprocket change ?? mostly already it's a 187Kg and to increase weight to 187 oher others might have played role here then a sprocket change!!

and Yes CL 350 runs more top speed than electra i.e CL now 120kmph +/- and electras still 110-115kmph.

                          • Hello All,

I have decided to go for a RE Classic but am confused between 350 and 500 and did a mistake of taking test ride of 500 !
I will use this as my primary bike for commute (~55kms daily)
I will go for touring once in a month or once in 2 months.

Will it complain if i use CL 500 more in city ?

Everything depends on ur pocket.. if you are ready to pay 40k more with lesser milage ( at least 10 km difference ) but with additional torque then go on for 500.. but if you want a nice milage giving bike with good but not great torque then 350 is made for you.. decision lies with you... so do the bank balance

First thing I'll say that you should go for 350 instead of 500 as mileage is little concern here.

If you go for CL350, you may have to change it's seat as the seat is not comfortable.

If you go for TB (lets suppose), you may have to change its handle for better control.

TB is the most comfortable bike RE has and that too with good mileage.
