        • if you ask me,the 220F is the best bet... coming form a unicorn for 5 years, i couldn't believe what the 220F is till i bought it... yes the refinement is a bit less compared to the ZMA,but the ZMA's time is up... if you have your heart on the ZMA,then go for the ZMR else stick to the P220F (not the 'S')

~1.1L for the ZMR is a total rip off,if it wes arnd 90k,would have suggested that for sedate drivers, but an engine that old,buy adding Fi,and a huge bulge of plastic,i really can't see it as a VFM product... if it was perfect, then ok,maybe some extra cash wouldn't have hurt, but i heard a lot of stories abt the build (plastics),faring vibes, heat, etc on the ZMR...
if you can wait for the new r-15... and if you don't mind going into 1L+,why not,as someone already suggested, the CBR-250 ? half the ninja's price but only marginally slower, will blow off the ZMA's and R's and also the 220's...

            • Hi All,
Me too; new to this community. Kindly forgive me if am talking something redundant or foolish.
I needed advise from you guys. I need a stable/reliable & strong machine to commute to office (65Kms/day) and normal weekend moving around. I have almost finalized on the Karizma R: the new one they say is launched recently with white & grey colors.
I saw the new CBZ at the showroom ; they have given some add-ons to it like:
              Tubeless tyres
              Double disc (optional)
              Clip-onish handle bars
New stickering job, belly, grabbers etc

Does it make sense for me to wait a couple of months and see? Any updates of such upgrade to the existing zma?

P.S: The dealer near me states he can give me the grey one on the day I want it (October 1st week) if I book it now.

              please advice.

              • @k@beer : Since you have not mentioned about fuel efficiency, Zma is the best bike for 65km/day. CBZ Xtreme will also be a good bike for such distance, Zma scores in high speed cruising, it has great torque as well. But if your commuting is more of highway then I would suggest Unicorn which handles a notch better than CBZ especially around corners. GSR can also be considered but look into service aspects/convenience in u'r town.

B/W CBZ & Zma ..Zma if you don't care about FE ( Zma gives about 35kmpl, but gives superb high speed cruising & damn torquey), else CBZ Xtreme, the best all-rounder.

                  • Thanks Vipin/Raj.

About the FE I am expecting anything between 35-43 should be decent enough.
                    • Does anyone feel that the current zma-r is due for some upgardes, is a new version of zma-r to be launched soon? for which I should wait before booking it? or will it be ok to book the machine?
                    • The current zma-r comes with the original HeroHonda logo, will it be subjected to rebranding (which i think will be done even if a new version doesnt come in?)
                    Thank you!

I am sure if driven sanely the FE will be in your expected band, I know some Zmas giving >40 consistently..
Zma-R will not go in for any engine upgrades, Hero will continue to use same engine, you may expect some superficial upgrades limited to color/features & not much...so with or w/o Hero Honda logo it must not matter...I guess Hero will use Hero Honda logo as per agreement it has with Honda. Hero Honda or Hero Moto, the engine will be the same as Hero will pay loyalty & use original technology of Honda atleast upto 2014.

                      • zma is a good bike only as long as you dont compare it with the 220
i dont think other than fuel efficiency the zma beats the 220 in any department, and i guess thats more cause u feel like riding a 220 hard but you dont have that urge on a zma.

i dont understand how a engine of similar capacity producing 23% lesser power and using primitive tech better?
the gearbox of 220 a lil harsher but it provides better engine breaking on down shifts..

You cannot compare based on specifications alone!
For example, the Yamaha FZ1 produces a whopping 150BHP but this seems pathetic in front of the BMW S1000RR which produces a humongous 193BHP!
                              So,FZ1 uses primitive tech?
The Karizma engine(CRF 230 series) in Honda's world powers dirt bikes and hence have a lot of Torque "up-front" while the Pulsar emphasizes on the BHP front and hence can have better redlining etc.The Karizma also has a relaxed engine specifically suited for touring.
Assuming that the all the Pulsar family members use the same gearbox(with different ratios, may be),I can confidently tell you that it is good but falls shorter when compared to the Karizma/Unicorn etc.
I am a novice in the biking world and all these information are from fellow motorists and sometimes google unkel

                              • @Vipin Thanks a lot for the explanation! this certainly helps!!
Thanks a lot guys for your opinions.

I think I have finally zeroed down on booking the zma-r (i was really confused between the zma & P220). Majorly after going through all your posts and some other threads, I felt the zma is more reliable (its just what i feel; its just a personal thought and can be incorrect, so plz dont pounce on me)
Money wise; yes, it does matter but more than that the fear of taking your bike to the SC guys every month grips me too much. since my requirement is more on reliability, less niggles and stability almost majority vouches for the zma..a bit better FE than the 220 would be an added advantage.
I would prefer having the bike in 1st week of October (6th being Dasera), the dealer assures that I can get the new grey color deliverd (they seem so happy when I am wanting to go for a waiting period of almost 2 months ) still negotiating with him for tubeless tyres.
Do update if there is anything else that comes up to your mind.

                                Thanks & Regards,
                                Kabeer
