Well, it was a very weird day for a speedcheck. No preperations, infact I'm in the middle of working on my Fiero for the upcoming drag race at Hyderabad next month. So the RTR and R15 recieved no attention at all.
My RTR came for the speedcheck for only Kushanth to commute. He had no bike on him. My R15 also never recieved any attention. Chain was last lubricated over a month ago. However it was faster than the other R15s present that day but not to my expectations.
Weather indeed played spoilt sport with both my bikes being rich and not running the right state of tune.
My RTR has been completely transformed to factory stock with the crash guard and mirrors missing only. Its heavy @ 135kgs from its Group D avatar and the engine is running a wrong state of tune coutesy jetting.
Was running a bigger mainjet from the previous set-up and hence was chocking beyond 10000rpm a bit. Had to go down leaner. Although I tried removing the inner foam from the airfilter to make it leaner, it never worked. Plug color was still black.
And FYI a rich mixture will kill top-end in any case, although the low-end will improve quite a bit. If only I had intentions of running the RTR, I'd have corrected this and the story will be in the reverse order. Kushanth gave me a last minute notice to arrange the bike for him. Anyways.
The RTR FI, belonging to pradeep for some damn reason was not revving past 10000rpm. With some heavy tappet noise and loosing steam after 8000rpm, his engine has to be inspected. Never seen an RTR FI in such a bad shape. Its currently undergoing a surgery at Zen
. So there goes the RTR FI.
Which means, we will be looking at a round two of this speed session. Its not fair to judge something at the wrong time.
Also the P180 was catching up with my RTR well after 400mtrs and thats when my engine is already doing 116+ true and the revs at 9000rpm+. Like I said earlier the chocking feel from upwards of 10000rpm was a big let down for anything higher or near that.
I saw a max of 132-133kmph on my RTR speedo. Normally we end up seeing 140+ on the speedo with the speedgun easily reading 130kmph. So thats nearly 10kmph lesser than earlier.
The P180 is in no means short geared, when compared to the RTR.
Next time get another p180 for comparo and we'll generally see how well the p180's fare. No exception from the next time on. I'll get my RTR in the right form, we'll see then
The RTR Fi will also come. Lets see what these things do in the right form.
The day being very windy, none of the R15s were doing any great top-speeds. The stock bike was doing 120 tops and my R15 clocked 125 max. In a 400mtrs drag, my R15 ended being some 2-3 bike lengths ahead of Navish's bike.
If things go well, my long lost Fiero will be up for a speed check on the 1st week of jan. This is in a 165cc guise for the racing class - 4-stroke upto 165cc. Since its a dedicated drag bike, will be only looking at 400mtrs performance. We'll also have Kushanth's Karizma in a new form in 2 weeks for the 4-stroke upto 250cc class.
For every session, you cant be dead sure that the bike will run the way you plan. Conditions will determine everything in the end. On sunday, all the lean bikes were running well. Goes to say how much the word "set-up" means.
Even in stock class racing we have variatons in performance from day to day and session to session. One state of tune cant work for all, everytime.
Cheers

From the man himself

Good to know that the eye infection's healing fast bro. Couldn't even really talk to you at the speedcheck. There were bikes breaking down left right and centre.
Lets hope the next speedcheck fares better...
