  • But in the out right top-speed run the uni was faster that your R15 @126kmph. My pal was too bad at pushing the bike to its limits. You know what I clocked later on the same bike
    But like I've always said hatts off to the R15's super duper aerodynamics, it makes up somewhere for all its sluggishness. I mean a bone stock bike.

    • do all these mods still result in a reliable engine? I understand that manufacturers can also obtain quite a bit more power out of a 150 cc mill but back out of it to keep the power band usable and make the engine reliable.

        Yes that's right it was quicker but what i intended to say was Uni was quicker than R15 not faster(When we compare the top speed in a long stretch).. the Uni in 1km does 110 say R15 would do 105.. But i love bike which are quicker

        Joel: how was the conversion the kid who came there were having.. hey its a R1 or shogun

        • Ha ha ha...Some kids looked at your R15 and said its a modified shogun. Best part, u actually own a shogun

          faster means quicker too. That uni with a fairing could have done 4-5kmph more with ease.

              Unicorn - 126. Had no fairing, could have done another 2-3kmph more else.
              My RTR - 135. Had lot more to go. Winds, engine knocking from 9000rpm (due to high compression and lack of race fuel) and I had to roll off the throttle a bit.
              It was fun to see a unicorn smoke the hell out of a R15 . Mithun need your comments here
              126 on uni? and 135 on RTR!! great going joel

              Sure i missed a fun event!!! was very busy yesterday, couldnt make it to the event!! even i wanted to do a stock RTR vs P180 shootout.

              @joel
              Was it the same black uni with flash lights on its back which did 111kmph in the last speedcheck??

              • Yup its the same unicorn but now in a whole new avatar, inside the engine
                The p180/RTR battle is still due. One brand new RTR FI was supposed to land, but could not make it, we could have pitted it against a p200. And a carb RTR with a p180. next time

                • It was a riveting experience to ride the two bikes-on-steroids.

                  The Unicorn simply blew me away with its torque which helped the bike get to some serious speeds in no time.The feeling of sliding towards the rear seat when given the twist-the-wrist treatment was simply awesome and the acoustic performance was absolutely wicked.Aural delight could be achieved from as long as a km!! I achieved 115km/hr in the GPS reading.

                  As i was told not to rip/take the RTR to higher rpms my comments on the bike is only limited to lower-mid range rpms.The bike was fast but somehow the unicorn felt more peppier in lower-mid range.Maybe the RTR's engine character of more power at higher rpms held true as i took the bike to 95km/hr and it came up in no time.And yeah i saw the fastest 60km/hr digit- climbing ever in a RTR.The speedo was spilling the digits like the millisecond counter of a stopwatch!!

                  @joel

                  Thanks for giving me the bike for a run.Looking forward to test the R15 of yours and yeah a proper ride of the RTR,too!!

                    I told you to rip it in the lower 3 gears, coz it would knock only higher up the gears. i.e when the engine is more loaded.
                    Yes my RTR has a different character, all the punch is reserved for rpms higher than 6000. Taking it all the way till its 12000rpm marker.
                    yeah the speedo gets to triple digits like a stop watch indeed. From my estimate, it gets to 60kmph in around less than 3.5 secs. And yeah 146kmph on the speedo is something no other road going RTR will ever achieve, in a 1km stretch.
                    Later in the day after u guys left, I had to wait for the engine to cool really well to do a proper top speed run. Thats the only way I could surpass the high rpm detonation. And it was still knocking and during the 135kmph run, I was rolling off the throttle at 10000rpm. WOT and pinging would get heavy.

                    • Yup, i revved the bike till 12k rpm in the first and second gear.In 2nd gear it maxxed out at 67-68km/hr.After i slotted in 3rd gear i eased off a bit but still hit 95km/hr which came up pretty fast.

                      And 146km/hr is FAAST, man!! Is the bike stable at those speeds as you have downsized the bike's boots!!

                      • Hey Joel, I have a few queries. For 210 psi, my Pulsar was pinging with ordinary fuel but ran fine with SPEED. But I think things do change a lot when its a short-stroke revving like crazy till 12K rpm. So I guess SPEED 97 should do fine on urs, right ? Were u not using it.

                        Also due to the altitude difference lower octane should not be much of a bother compared to Chennai(IIRC that's what u said). Correct me if I am wrong.

                        • @Apar - My RTR is running 210psi here in bangalore with the such a low temperature here. If this setup comes to chennai. it will shoot to 220-230psi coz of elevation. Also another thing is consider is that my cylinder head flows a lot lot more than a standard one. Hence the dynamic compression goes up really high compared your pulsar.
                          I was indeed using Speed 97 (the engine will explode if I ran anything lower than this) and I actually needed some 100 octane race fuel. Like I said, I could have easily bumped it further to 230psi, but it was already messing with 210psi. All said, lack of the right fuel and many other things led to running a compromised set-up.
                          The engine had so much more juice to go, infact could have happily revved untill 11000rpm atleast in 5th and could have done another 10kmph(that'd be 145kmph) but then detonation was killing the party and I had to slowly roll off the gas and sustain the rpms.
                          If this engine was running in chennai, it'd be impossible to even run this much without atleast 100 octane.
