awe...Yamaha would definitely say that our bike (R15) is worthless even with all this wonderful chassis, suspension, engine and ride quality just because some other bike has a bloody better top speed with less gizmos!!!
R15 is the true evolution in the Indian motorcycle scene, but why would you care. u just want something with better top speed like its never gonna get beaten by some other bike in future
who is talking about its chassis and suspension now...i was jus talking about its technology associated with the engine ...
@satyen:have taken it at 13x speeds and know wat a rtr and a r15 is capable of..

and why not talk about chassis and suspension too, aren't they part of technology???!!!!Originally posted by pradeep reddy View Postwho is talking about its chassis and suspension now...i was jus talking about its technology associated with the engine ...
I am not taking anything away from Indian motorcycles, but yes, with R15 Yamaha has made sportbike technology, feel and ride available to the Indian masses. R15 is the path to the tomorrow's sport oriented motorcycles in India. And why can't u praise that???

Just wanted to clarify a few things on this thread.
1. For heavens sake this bike is not called MENACE, its the TVS Apache RTR 180 only
2. Nobody from TVS said the bike is half faired and has projectors. It was the usual rumour monkers on this forum who did so. So I'm sure expectations were wrongly set.
3. The pics are very very close to the actual product and its not fake. Its the prototype RTR 180.
4. The rear tyre is indeed a TVS 110/80 - 17 pattern of the existing RTR 160 rubber.
5. The dials and the paint scheme is for real and thats to distinguish the RTR 180.
6. The RTR180 will be introduced with a BS29 Mikuni CV carb which I personally feel is the best bet for tuning. An FI engine is for later, a few months after this.
7. The engine size remains the same. The stroke length has been upped with the same piston size and the head is also physically the same. No need to make the cylinder visually bigger coz the bore size is not upped.
8. The bike will have a few subtile styling changes over the existing RTR160, something like what the P200 is to the P180. However the loud RTR lettering on the side scoops is very unlikely to make it to production.
9. Rear disc is standard and the rest of the cycle parts are pretty much the same as the RTR 160.
Hope this clears a lot of doubts.Originally posted by Joel View PostThe rear was switched to 17" for better conering.
Last week during my trackday at Kari, I put a 17" spoked wheel at the rear of my RTR with the R15 rubbers and the bike was easily out handling a stock RTR.
So that means a lot.
The promising part is the performance. All the rumours here, created the wrong expectation about the RTR 180 which is no fault of the bike or TVS.
The bike pumps as much power as a p200 on paper.^Ok, with joel spilling this much...looks like the launch of rtr 180 is not far away.Originally posted by Joel View PostThe RTR180 indeed looks different from the 160 coz of the styling changes to the rear, paint scheme and the decals.
The power output of the bike is close to the p200 on paper but rest assured it will kill the R15. Which means the p220 is also not spared. Now this is based on the tests by TVS at their test facility using their team riders and not some uncles who race on the street.
The RTR has always been a pocket rocket among the current 4-strokes and a bang for the buck.
A few pointers why the RTR 180 will be better than the competition is,
Pricing, will be priced cheaper than all the performance bikes and just a few bucks over the FZ.
Highest torque and power to weight ratio.
light handling and an awesome tracktool
Very good fuel efficiency
And offers the highest VFM
The RTR 180 has a good package to literally kill the p200/p180/p220/R15 and maybe the RTR 160 FI itself. The RTR 160 FI and RTR 180 wont have too much of a price difference and buyers will sure be confused to pick their ride

Am happy!
My bro will be happier tooOriginally posted by Joel View PostThe Kits will be made available for public in sometime. Since its a performance addition and as long as it can comply to the emission norms, TVS can sell it liberally.

Errr, i just cant agree to this. But i do agree with thee pulsars.Originally posted by santoosh View Posttvs history all their motors have been like grinders.Just like pulsars..
:-D
All the TVS 4-strokes have been very well sorted and NVH has been on par with the rest of the jap makers. Lets not talk about the bland Hondas, but TVS having adopted a lot of the Suzuki culture, the engines will typically have a mix of refinement and a bit of the crude feel. Ride any Suzuki and you'll know what I mean. They are never butter smooth, but no grinders either.
The less said about Bajaj, the better.
Ride a very well maintained Fiero and you'll know if a TVS is grinder like a pulsar or not. FYI, the Fiero's engine was optimised right here at Hosur by the TVS team.
The RTRs have indeed been vibey and thats coz of the short stroke nature. Ride even a CBR150 or an FXR 150 and you'll why a short stroke cant be like an R15. There is a lot of inertial load on a short stroke crank due to its higher revving nature.
The RTR 180 has the Fiero stroke which is a lot more balanced and I have personally done an RTR 180 conversion on an RTR 160 more than a year ago. The vibes instanlty came down and the engine was a lot more relaxed.
The RTR 180 is in its final stages of testing and the NVH levels are close to the original Fiero. The valve train has been reworked and clearances have been changed. So no need of assuming that it will be a grinder. It will be close to a smoothie

You referring to the data loggers rite? Really fun feature to have! Proof for all your performance claims!Originally posted by Thunder View PostYes....Every Riders will have different opinions......Not evey bike will have the same state......

A few things I would like to see which the 160 lacks are self canceling indicators, side stand light, gear position indicator & a gear change rev light. Oh & a programmable 0-any speed timer !
