There is no need to switch even to Semi-synth. oil. It's just we want to run the engine cooler, smoother. For normal city riding or you can say my kind of riding, i will only stick to MINERAL, but unfortunately there are no good options available in 20W50 mineral range(atleast in my area). That's the reason i am dealing with Semi synthetic. otherwise, for me SS or FS in city is waste of money.Originally posted by andy118 View Post

i'm facked up.
This is my "engine oil log"-
0-750km:bajaj's "default" oil.
750-2100km:castrol power1 i.e 15W40
grade.
2100-3050km(i.e now):still doing on castrol xtra 20W50.since last few days i got very less mileage(~28) so took my bike to the showroom service to get the mileage increased, they did it(probably leaned it) but no fruit just a mere increase of 3kmpl.So i went to a well known mechanic in town to get the job done,he test rode the bike and we talked:
mechanic-dude the engine is running too rough! Wat oil hve u put??
Me-(was been feeling the same since last few days) a 20w50.
mech(!)-brand?
Me-castrol xtra, the one mentioned in the manual.
mech-dude u gotta use power1(the 15w40 oil) for P180,its better than the recommended one! Its smoother than that.
Me-but its 4 P150 no...
mech-no man,its should even be used in the 180/200 too.
Me-well,doesn't that cause any harm to the engine in the long run?
mech-No dude..Trust me,i been dealing these 'student's' bikes..i'm the 1st guy to use it in the 180/200,later the showroom people followed the same.It does good.Customers leave their bikes here on the trust upon me,i do the job and take all the responsibility for the bike's new output. It does good..
Me-(...)
mech-ok..I'm gonna do a minor service to it,it takes about 2hrs.Drop ur bike whenever u free..I'll do the job, then u can test the mileage in real time here and check it by yaself,.
Me-how much does that cost?
mech-Not much,about 100~150 bucks..
Me-wat bout d oil?
mech-it'll be good.U can change it if u wish,it costs 275.
me-i dont ve money right now,can u just retune the carb 4 now?i'll get it serviced 4m here after about 2 weeks.
mech-No dude,i dont just retune the carb,i clean some parts like carb, air filter, later tuning, testing etc..
Me(totally pis*ed off)-ok then i'll get back here after few days..*out*
now i'm confused very badly.Wondering if the 20w50 cheated me.I mechanic seem honest.I'm biased towards getting it serviced by him, thinking for doing the same..Just thought to know ur opinions before that..

well... i've been using Castrol 20w50 for 4 years now.
i currently use Castrol GTX 20w50. i haven't faced any issues with that grade of oil.
the P18O needs 20w50... a 20w40 oil would get extra thin when the bike heats up... and would also cause false neutrals..

It was ought to happen, i am not surprised with whatever has happened with your bike. Firstly, you put Xw40 oil in your bike, that was the reason you were feeling it rough before. And now you have put in Castrol Active Xtra almost a crap, or you can say it is the option when nothing is available.Originally posted by sachi2icekold View Posti'm facked up.

Donot go to Local mechanic for now, firstly if you can get Motul or Valvoline(mineral or synthetic) than put it in your bike. secondly, Go to SC and again tell them that it's been 2-3 times for the same problem you have visited SC and this time you want it sorted out anyway. Be STRICT to them while telling so. donot be firm.
For maintaining smoothness try to follow below suggestions:
1) Service bike every 1000-1500kms.
2) Tell SC guy at each service to clean and adjust CABR.
For now go to SC and tell them that bike is having vibrations, and feeling rough. They will tighten some bolts and probably if they are too intelligent then will tune carb too.
Do it tommorow and then update.
If everything goes fail then go to BAJAJAUTO website and write them email telling them about their problem. That way SC guys will do their job very well.

CRAP thing causes the bike to behave abnormally and that is what?? happening with you. If you really want from your heart to solve the problem then 'GO TO SC AND TELL THEM not "rudely" but strictly that this time you want issues tobe sorted out no matter whatever time you guys need?? otherwise you will take issue to higher authorities, this was the line used by me when i had to visit consecutively 6 timesOriginally posted by sachi2icekold View PostThx 4 your input..But i been experiencing the engine 'not cooling enough' feeling with this oil..Dunno wat has gone wrong..
for the same issue of oil leakage.' and if they tell that bike is running rightly then do tell them to give it in written and ask them about the number of AREA MANAGER BAJAJ AUTO and do call him infront of them and by this time they will be ready to sort out all issues HAPPILY
and only that line solved my problem believe me or not!
Honestly, if i speak then 'I love tackling this issues between myself and SC'. That way these issues will increase my selfconfidence in dealing with such or any sort of problems.Originally posted by andy118 View Postthis is right option haa..i also once sent an email to bajaj aut, pune...and i got a call from sc within 2 hrs..and they did the job quite nicely...it really helps ha...very good option...

But, for people who?? want to kill those SC guys, the email is the right alternative.

Just another update guys:
"I have not touched my bike for 4 days, it is not even started."
Nothing wrong, just i am too lazy from past few days to get out of home.
Try it and get the desired results.Originally posted by sachi2icekold View PostYeah..That sounds legit.I'll goto SC tomo, tell them about the mileage prob and the rough engine since the last tuning..Will See if it works before taking further actions..Thanks dude
BTW, wha does 'legit' means??? my english is poor you see.

I dont know the dictionary meaning dude
but legit just means,i think, doing things according to logic or law.Ex: I got a prob wit ma bike,so now i make use of the warranty to get it checked 4m SC for free instead of messing things up wasting money..Thats a simple logic or simple rule>>legit hehe

OK then. Just a query from my side:
"Why did you used Castrol active xtra, and not Motul or Valvoline or..."

Castrol GTX is not for bikes. It is correct grade, but it is for cars. Look at the bottle for proof. Use only 4T oil in your 4 stroke bike. Eg: Castrol Activ 4T Xtra. You will screw up your clutch if you use car oil because it lubricates the wet clutch causing it to slip and wear excessively.

Do you know that chances getting GENUINE castrol can is just 10%?Originally posted by sachi2icekold View Post....i'm facked up.

....
...How can you be so sure that you haven't put edible oil instead ?...Castrol is good only when its genuine...but why to attempt to use it in your bike ?...this matter has been discussed several times on engine oil thread
today I ran out of fuel...had to drag 2 kms by house...Originally posted by abhichotu.abhi View PostJust another update guys:

1) Service bike every 1000-1500kms.
The bike needs a check at the battery's water level, cleaning and lubing of the chain, checking and adjucting the clutch 's play and cleaning of the air filter at every 1000 kms, apart from this nothing and i mean nothing a bike needs in the name of the service at 1000-1500 kms, out of these the SC guys wont check the water level of the bike and will wreck the setting of the clutch, the best is to check these things at home as collectively they'll only take your half an hour.
2) Tell SC guy at each service to clean and adjust CABR.
Unless and untill the bike is giving you starting troubles and acceleration troubles at high RPM, NEVER open and service the carb, even if it shows 10000kms between it's servicing or cleaning intervals go by the principle "if it aint broke, dont fix/check it" with the carb always.
