Thanks ekm-biker for patiently going through my long post and finding it useful. I would also like to share here some confusing oil preferences and switching by reputed manufacturers....Kawasaki Ninja prefers 20w50 Mineral, and no where have they recommended thinner oil or Synthetics...Honda recommends 10w30 or 20w40 oil in CBR 250, and they used minerals only...but off late the A.S.C have now switched to Synthetic oil which they claim is as per the Honda directive.......There had been no change in the CBR engine spec......Originally posted by ekm-biker View PostWhen Was The Last Time,You Did Something For The First Time.

A lower number in base stock is warranted in colder climates, and in engines with low compression ,less heat, and displacement ...Actually both of you are right , I think ... a) you have to strike a optimal balance between engine wear/heat etc Vs fuel mileage for your type of engine & usage b) manufacturers should not reccomend any one make/grade of oil only but a range of oil grades for various conditions their engine may run in . Same grade of oil can't possibly be adequate for an engine from kashmir in winter to jaisalmer in summer , isn't it ? So here is where I begin to lose faith on manufacturers that write 10w30 HH 4Tplus all over in their owner's manual . It defies common sense and my experience too .Originally posted by ekm-biker View PostThe best thing to do is use the appropriate viscosity for your engine and climate as recommended by the manufacturer. In general, newer vehicles will specify lower viscosity oils such as 5W-30 while older vehicles will specify higher viscosity oils such as 20W-50. This is because today's engines are built with tighter bearing clearances to take advantage of the fuel economy benefits of lower viscosity oils.It is not really a good idea to use thicker oil in one of these engines ...

No. It's something like i get when the bike is running in low speed but when it rains i get it even in third gear...its like a steel thing is being rubbed on to something....at high gears it disappears or probably i just cant hear it at that timeOriginally posted by ashwinprakas View PostSteel sound mean?? hello friends...i have bought black hunk in may2011 in delhi.recently i shifted to bengaluru for studies.
i have also brought my bike to bengaluru in train.my odo reading is 3000kms.i have mostly rode at around 45-50kmph.
Now here in bengaluru the weather is cool and due to daily rains..my bike not starting at 1st self.i have to try self start for 3-4 times.
my choke got broken in train,so dnt hv a choke too..please suggest a solution for this problem.
Another problem is when i took my bike to speeds more than 60kmph...then after 65kmph no power comes from the engine,i get jerks and had to slow down.
Even i try as much bike is not going above 70kmph.i was feeling as if petrol is not going to the engine. this is just a feeling, may not be exact reason since i do not have good knowledge about bike mechanisms.
My friends told me that i have not taken bike to 70-80kmph till now and rode 3000kms,its because of that,my engine is not tuned for high speeds till now.
.they suggest me to drive at high speeds now before 6000kms so that engine can run smoothly at high speeds otherwise engine will get dumped..is that true???two services in delhi have been done on time.if anyone could help me in these issues i would be very thankful...and if anyone from bengaluru
could tell me the best HH service station in bengaluru,i will take bike there for check-up..thanks

Even i had the same problem. I gave my bike for 1st service at 510K. The piston sound at low speeds (upto 40kmph) started at ard 800kOriginally posted by Kalli12 View PostNo. It's something like i get when the bike is running in low speed but when it rains i get it even in third gear...its like a steel thing is being rubbed on to something....at high gears it disappears or probably i just cant hear it at that time
. Checked the oil color. It was 75%black
so i replaced the oil with Motul 3000v 10W30 oil . The sound continued for another 20km and then vanished. Engine became smooth, felt less hotter and gear slip reduced

got my baby will start a ownership thread after some days.
ohh man i am loving it its smooth to ride compared to pulsar. only touched 60km/h. really I like it.
paid 1650rs for accessories its total waste coz it contains tufflon coating, buzzer (indicator tone), handle grip, and a full cover(not in stock)
sad to say the service is not good at my place many customers are saying complaints.Last edited by ATHUL4R; 08-21-2011, 06:04 PM.sigpic

Cant say. Let the bike do atleast 50km. After tat, if the problem still exists then take it to SVC. Most probably not an engine problem. The problem is the HH svc guys use local oil from drums during service which is very bad. So this oil doesnt last even 200km and the engine starts producing rubbing sound and excess heat.Originally posted by Kalli12 View PostYEAH! Yeah, engine became rough and the rubbing sound felt like the piston was rubbing hard on the cylinder. The sound was more when i ride on 3rd gear with low acceleration.Originally posted by Kalli12 View Postoops i meant to say engine oil* problem sry for that....and can u define the sound which u got i mean its like a steel sound right ?

thanks for the reply...the problem is not at low speeds but at speeds greater than 60kmph.and i am considering engine oil change in my bike.which engine oil is best for hunk and how much it will cost??Originally posted by Kalli12 View PostI had the same problem like petrol not getting pumped in it was at low speeds though didnt bother about it and it was gone
