Wot!!!

Reflector is still healthy, no Problem at all.
I used to ride 40km(1+hr) with light ON after sunset. atleast 10 times a month other than my weekly trips.
I can say abt 40% out of current odo(24k) is with light ON

please shred some info on 35w HID vs 60W Halogen regarding heat

By jerking do you mean sudden bogging down and erratic acceleration in mornings?? Then it is cold start issue, I have driven my friend's unicorn over 2-3 years and it never had cold start issues..here is why your bike was behaving erratically

1.Either improper tappet clearance or engine work
2.Heavier grade of engine oil say 20w50 etc
3.Debris is fuel tank and improperly tuned carb.

There might be more reasons. So coming to topic you asked between two vehicles

1.Xtreme pros over apache
Mileage
Brilliant Power after 60kmph
Slick geat shifts
Better ride comfort and height
Nil vibes and hero customer support

Apache pros over xtreme
brilliant brakes
Faster acceleration
Roary exhaust
Lighter by 10-12 kgs
Sporty riding position

Take a good long test drive before you select any bike.rest key here is timely maintenance which will keep bike performing optimum all times, mine extreme has done over 9k kms and I never had cold start issues, learnt a lot from here and kept bike tuned all the time.
Carb Tuning made easy (Thanks Sibun !)

It's been around 7500km since the Big Bore and no complaints. I guess it's the headword and Big Bore that warrants a need for Super Petrol. I'm wondering if Speed petrol will make a similar difference too.I second that completely. Here are a few pictures of my bike. It's been 24,200km of pure joy. Yes, Shell fuels are better in quality and quantity. Although there is no shell fuel station in odisha but i have heard from numerous reviews. I am just Hoping that shell opens a fuel station in bhubaneswar so that i can fill from them.Your bike looks fanatastic, really well maintained. Our stock bike itself feel terrific after 5K rpm and i can imagine how your big bore with head work bike will be feeling. Even my bike is at 24.5k kms and is rapidly clocking on kilometers.

If from the avatar photos of yours it is you then you have a big build body. So apache will look small and also apache has a more lean forward position. Check the extreme and Hunk. Extreme has a front biased seating position with rear set foot pegs while Hunk has a straight seating position and slightly forward foot pegs.Other pro and cons as Rohit has mentioned. Nothing more to say.@All:-My bike has crossed 24.5k and in this 20-24K a lot have happened. Some highlights are:-1. Rear wheel have punctured once. Front wheel has leaked air and repaired.2. Changed the parking bulb to 8 SMD LED.3. Changed the engine oil to Shell Advanced Ultra 10W 40 fully synthetic oil.4. Have fit twin horns from Pulsar with Relay.5. Changed air filter. Will post details with photos in my next post.

Hie guys
I was quit busy, so dint get time to write about my xtreme. Its 510 kms on odo now.
Whats gud abt her...?
1. Uniqueness..! Here in crowd of unicorns & pulsars very few extremes can be seen. Went at ice cream parlor & parked her outside the shop, saw many peoples admiring her even a guy with P220 :P. Made me feel happy & proud.!
2. Loved those analog digital console with cool blue light. Equipment level is top notch
3. Did mileage run. 1st time gave me 35 km/l reserve to reserve. Next time did 500 Rs top up, 6 ltr+0.45lt reserve, 284km. 284/6=47.33 km/ltr. Quit good..
4. Max speed 45 - 50 km/hr at 3500-4000 rpm till 1st 500 kms & few burst to 60 km/hr, just twice.
5. change oil at 288 kms. It was brownish black.
6. Got Moto wax at 250 Rs. Bike looked quit stunning after polishing her with wax.

Whats bad....
Tappet noise. I am facing this issue after i got my ride within 1 week. Went to SVC, but guy told me do my riding upto 500kms. At 1st service we`ll fix it, they will not open new engine. Its too early to open it.

As i am going to do 1st service of my xtreme, which things i should get checked at SVC.
Kindly provide your inputs.
Thanx in advance

Well thanx friends.
What I meant for jerking is that in my previous bike honda unicorn was having cv carborator and always in the morning or even if u used to pick up the bike after 2 hrs I used to feel a no petrol feeling even after the tank was full. Like there was no power well since cbz is also having cv carborator with ccvvi system.
Hence I wanted some light on this.
Rest I have gone through the post and have decided also to go ahead for her on my b/day shall post u all

I haven't seen any XTreme's/Hunk's reporting such problems. You can go ahead with the decision of purchasing XTreme.

After 2 years(13k kms) of riding my Hunk with the worn bore, I finally decided to get the issues rectified rather than going for a new bike.
I had new Suzuki GS150R in my mind for a short period of time, but dropped it hearing the low exchange price they offered for my bike.
Since I had a new bike in my mind I was not caring it properly for sometime and following work needed to be carried out to bring her to good shape.
Front fork oil and seal replacement
Swing arm bush and welding of the rusted area
Seat cushioning and new cover

and finally an engine overhaul

I approached a local mechanic for engine work and swing arm repair. I felt he is good and gave the bike today morning.

I will tell the rest of the story with help of pics. The camera is a humble 2MP cam of Nokia phone. The focus was also not good with some of them.
There is a slight gap that can be seen between piston and cylinder.

Looks like the piston was touching the bore walls and the piston is of SAL make. The had and valves had enough carbon deposit as expected.
Honing marks were still seen in the bore.

The crank was checked and shaft had a little play. Planning to get it reset in lathe.

The 3rd gear was making noise for some time. All the teeth of the gear are having dents in the middle as shown below. Planning to get this changed as well.

Mechanic told lathe work will take time and hence can return the bike by Monday.

From the photos that you have posted i can very well deduce that you have not changed oil on time and thus the brownish color of burnt oil.

After re-building the engine use Shell AX5 10W 30 engine oil as it contains a lot of detergent which will help in cleaning of engine. Drain at 500 km and your engine will become clean.

Change the gear teeth and it will increase the smoothness.

Tomorrow being sunday lathe and garage will be very busy. So monday is a reasonable time. While getting the engine re-fitted get it done in front of you and also buy OE spares from Hero dealer and take it with you and get it fitted in front of your eyes.

From the pictures it looks like you were just topping-off the oil as it got burnt and did very few or nil oil changes. (No Offence)
Gear and crank wear could be due to low oil level or insufficient lubrication due to bad oil.
Sibun told you several times to get the bike fixed but I think you had a new bike in mind and hence the neglect, no problem- bike can be made to run like new if few things are taken care .

Replace the valves, polish it BY HAND using lapping paste, change the timing chain, rocker arms & pins(depending upon wear), clutch plates, countershaft bearings, crank bearings and con-rod (depending upon wear). Use OE bore kit, packings and spares.
Go to a lathe which has hydraulic press, if he uses hammer to push out the crank pin then run away from him.

Clean the exhaust by soaking it in kerosene for 20mins, pressure wash it and flush it from both the sides to clean the baffles and cat con, dry it thoroughly with compressed air. Replace the silencer gasket on head without fail.

Adjust the tappets with feeler gauge yourself as mechanic will refuse to use feeler gauge.

I can see an expenditure of ~7K but the amount spent will be worth it.

I am facing issues with HH service lately, my bike is having issue with tappet (too much noise when the engine heats up) so I left it for service in 2 different showrooms after explaining the issue clearly, but they just did normal servicing and the issue is still there! can someone please suggest some good mechanic in Chennai ?

@sibun and @shoeb2015 - Thanks guys....

A brief history - I bought the bike when it had run 20k kms and couldn't identify if there was an issue as smoke was not coming out even on hard acceleration.
Also nothing I could make out from the engine sound. I was used to sound of Splendor and I could tell if a Splendor had bad engine, but I missed it with Hunk
And, the gear noise was even there from the beginning and it is still the same even today (only in 3rd gear). I had read about this issue with Hunk / Xtremes of many people in this forum. Sibun used to tell this could be issue with ASC's over tightening the chain.
I guess the previous owner (despite being married man of 30+ age and a project manager in IT) was a rash rider and ripped the hell out of it and also he would've run it in low oil.
He told me when I met him - "only FZ is the bike that can chase Hunk. I have done 115 km/h several times" I should've ran away from it then itself!
I got a sweet deal for it so went ahead and finally bought it. Above all, I always liked Hunk from the day it launched

The mechanic checked for spares in ASC and he says new bore/piston kit costs 3750 after discount!
Also the gear wheels are not available in two big ASC's in Chennai! Will try to get contact number of some stockists and check with them.

He had already got the swing arm part corrected by the evening and he was scrapping the carbon from valve holes and head in the evening. He said he will be giving for polishing and all in lathe today.
There used to be lot of bikes with him, but luckily there is only a P220 in his garage now and he already done with its service.
So he is spending his time fully on my bike.

And the total amount he expecting for the work (including new clutch plates ) is around 10k

I was actually bowled over by the ride comfort and refinement of SUZUKI GS150r during the test ride, though the rough sound on acceleration was bit annoying.
While I was going thru the GS ownership thread I saw some posts from riazmomin, that he purchased XTreme again for second time, though he had GS in his mind.
Also, in Duke390 thread one guy was comparing his Duke 390's engine refinement with that of his own XTreme's and he found Duke to be having equal refinement as of XTreme and is happy
So my thoughts went like - "I have a machine with one of the most refined engine, 14.4 bhp which is just third next to Pulsar and Apache, decent braking, good seating position (fan of rear set foot pegs and comfortable knee recess). And its one of the best looking in 150cc atleast to me. Why don't I go ahead and get it repaired and save some 60k rupees )

The head light of my xtreme is just too poor. I had already replaced the stock Halonix bulbs with Philips 35/35 Watts, but there is hardly any improvement.
Please suggest me some other bulb with 35/35 watts power rating, which can improve the visibility.
I do not wish to go for high power bulbs or HID, since it'll drain the battery quickly and my bike doesn't have kicker.
I am thinking to try the 55/60 watts bulb.
Can anybody suggest me any particular brand in this segment, which is easily available and compatible with xtreme

• Need help in modifying my HH Hunk [2009]

Hi XBHPians

Its been so long I had my Hunk and I would like to make some cosmetic and few performance modifications to my Bike.
I'm a noob but I have done some Photoshop work on HH Hunk image and would like suggestions how I can achieve the looks in the Pic.

I have thought of these following modifications that I couldn't put on while Photoshopping.

1. Rear Disc Break.
2. Bigger wide tires both read and Front(probably FZ tires)
3. Non-stock Silencer(I'm ok with few KMs drop in millage. how much will it drop )
4. Good short handle bar.
5. Will Pulsar NS head light fit it?? if not, I would like to go for twin round lamps found in the second pic.

Also please suggest the good place to get the modifications at a reasonable price.

Will wait for all your expert advices.

Thanks in advance.
