Hi guys,
I havent updated you since long. Now my extreme has run 2.5k approx. Initially i got a mileage arround 44kmpl. There was an ackward moment too when it gave 14kmpl (~20km on 100rupee petrol). This time i got 48.67kmpl (311kms on 500 rupee petrol). I feel thats very good.
There were some instances where i couldnt feel the downward gearshifts. Now that problem has vanished.
Rear shocks were a bit hard to start with. Now i feel they have become softer than expected.
Fuel guage is a problem. When you hit reserve the needle points above redmark. If u fill just 500 rupee petrol the guage shows full tank. I have brought this to notice of ASC. They have assured to change it if necessary in the next service.
Got the first free service done at 700km on odo. I realised why u guys blame the asc always.. I left the bike at asc in the morning. They took it up for service only after i reached there in the evening. Service took only one hour to complete. I dont think they cleaned or lubed chainset. Wash was too bad. I am unable to find any trace of greese or lubes on any part of the bike yet.
Still dont regret my decision to go for extreme.

Guys,

What oil/spray you using for lubing you bike's chain, is there anything specific because pouring used engine oil on chain is just as equal to using nothing which local mechanic uses....?

Use only SAE 90 grade oil for chain lubing.
Never use any sprays, they are meant for use in O-ring type of chains( generally open).
According to sibun's experience SAE 140 oil makes chain run super silent.
ASC sometimes use grease which is not good at all.
Many local mechanics use used engine oil which will spoil your chain.

Hero recommends 90. So stick to it.

14kmpl is way too low for any 150cc bike. Please check the quality and quantity of fuel dispensed . All chances that you could have been cheated . Yes the fuel guage sucks.
Most ASC's suck. 1 hour is all it takes to service a new bike . I doubt even if they clean the carb properly , heck I doubt if they clean it at all. Do try to find a friendly neighborhood garage ,better still learn the basics like chain tightening , oil changing , brake adjustment , carb cleaning etc yourself. I am sure you will enjoy the experience .

I have read in several forums that using WD 40 to clean your chain helps. Lot of people use WD 40 to clean the chain and later apply SAE 90 grade oil to lube it. They seem to have no problem with WD 40.

Why is using grease not good ? because it attracts dirt ? please clarify.

AFAIK , you need to tighten the chain once you lube it . No???

Yes you can use wd40 spray for cleaning chain. Kerosene with a brush does the same job.

Dirt attraction has no relation whether you use grease or oil. The problem using grease is that it cannot penetrate well in deeper areas and it will slightly resist the motion of chain links.
So you should not use grease it will make your bike chain to wearout faster.

After lubrication you should not overtighten the chain. Just maintain the slackness between 1-1.5inch at the tightest point.

Lokesh027 Superb replies brother. I want to add that one can use grease on sprocket teeth as it will stay on longer and axle oil that is 140 grade oil for lubrication. Always tighten the chain from tightest link and after tightening rotate wheel and check for any up down motion of chain .

Guys can anyone provide me User manual for xtreme. I got delivery of my ride yesterday but they haven`t provided any user manual.
I noticed some vibrations at around 3000 rpm n above. later on it vanishes. Is it normal..? Also should i go with Teflon coating for paint protection..? My bike`s paint is max brown which looks kind of matt finish.

Pics with my dad..

I have the same color, an absolute looker. It's not brown. Also this color no more features on the website. Teflon is your choice, man. I had it done later on my bike, nothing great. You are better off taking care of her yourself. Run it in properly. Congrats, again.

For running-in nothing to worry.

1. Keep rpm above 3k after 3rd gear always to prevent engine from lugging.
2. Till 500 km do not cross 5k rpm, good for 65 kph in fifth gear.
3. Change oil at 500 km and use 10 W 30 from tide water only.
4. Check the chain slack and ensure that it is not tightened too much.
5. After 500 km take it to 7k rpm for few seconds to free the engine

And lastly feel free to ask anything.
Bro could u just help me with some doubts...
At what rpm should i maintain my ride in run in period. Right now m riding at 3500 - 4000 rpm max.

Left my CBZ for a routine service this morning at Sai motors Bangalore. Hope they don't mess up my bike. Keeping my fingers crossed. The front fairing (the plastic piece covering the head light) had broken and needed a replacement. The service adviser said it will cost 950 Rs/-. Does anyone here know where I can source genuine spares for a cheaper price? I did not find enough time to search in JC road.

Why not have a WhatsApp group that comprises of some of the active members of this thread? The names that show up in this thread are quite common anyway. Maybe we can all exchange phone numbers via PMs and then create a group on WhatsApp. If anyone has a problem, we can all discuss it in realtime. I'm sure all of us would be interested in finding out a solution to anyone's problem.

Only thing is, this shouldn't replace the activity on the thread itself. Maybe someone can update this thread weekly with the chat history so that everyone can benefit.

The only problem is, @sibun isn't on WhatsApp from what I can see. Sibun, if you can please make it to WhatsApp, it'll be of great help to all of us.

I'm selling my 2007 extreme this week, most probably tomorrow

The bike served very well for the past 6 years.
A point to note out is that- The bike never betrayed me. She was a faithful wife Her engine is still smooth as silk
Never had any major problems with it thanks to the Hero Honda engine

Whenever someone asks me, What bike in 150cc category, I'll definitely recommend Xtreme which is Stylish, powerful n refined

Going to take a P200ns or any other bike which has to be more powerful than my current primary bike p220(clocked only 5.6k)

Hope the next 2014 Xtreme would look Badass and lead the 150cc segment

Thank you everyone especially sibun for supporting n helping for all the queries I had asked in this thread

Keep varying rpm during run in , dont stick to certain speeds for long time. Upto 1st service i.e 500km 4000rpm max.
after first service (after 500kms) gradually take upto 65kmph in 5th gear
yes vibrations are there as engine is new. Hero bikes take as much as 8K-10K kms to open up.

• Run-in

Hey fellas..

Juat took a new hero Hunk Panther black color DDS..

Was really hard to find regarding the run-in period of the bike..Googled it but every website said something different..

So thought why not start a thread specially foe the run-in of any Indian bike..

As i already had a Honda stunner which was mostly used by my brother and his friend.. so didnt knew much about.. now that i have atarted using my Hunk.. i feel that run-in of a bike is a very critical part and is to be taken special care of..

So all queries and doubts and questions about run-in at one place..

My first query.. What should be the RPM and speed limit to be maintained and till how many kilometers?

Some say that there is no need to do such stupidity.. bike has already gone through PDI check and all.. i found that reason bullshit..

Second query..
The idling rpm of my hunk increases when i ride for more than 10kms continiously.. initially its between 1200rpm but when engine opens up and gets heated up the rpm increases to 1700rpm.. is it common..

Third query..
How to heat up the engine when starting the bike in the morning..
The method i follow daily is.. pull the choke on for not more than 5 seconds and start the bike with kick start.. and revv a little till 3k rpm and let the engine idle for 2 minutes and then ride to office..

When i do this i feel a lag when taking pickup.. but after running 200 -300meters the lag vaniahes.. and the ride becomes more smooth..

Awaiting your reply guys..
Thanks in advance..
Cheers!
