  • re: CBZ xtreme / Hunk

    I've some problems:

    1) On the top side of the Swing Arm, there is a rubber strip that is meant to prevent the chain from hitting the Swing Arm(I Think). Once, while washing the bike, I happened to move this strip. The chain started hitting the swing arm and made an unbearable noise. Even if I move the strip back, it moves away from its original position. So now, every time the chain gets a little loose, the chain hits the Swing Arm and makes a racket and this is only gone after the chain is tightened.

    NOTE: Using Stunner's Chain Guard.

    2) The thread holding the Bleeder Nut to the front brake calliper assembly is stripped. So now, if I engage the front brakes, the Brake Fluid leaks out of the calliper assembly rendering the front brake useless. My mech said he'll try to get it re-threaded at a lathe and use a slightly bigger Bleeder Nut, if it doesn't work, might have to get a new front calliper assembly.

    3) With the headlamp turned on and negotiating inch-by-inch traffic, if I turn off the bike and then try to turn it on, the bike sort of chokes. As if the battery is weak. If I move at a decent pace, this problem doesn't show up.

    NOTE: Had converted to DC.

    4) When I turn the handlebar to the right and pull the bike backwards, I tend to get a rubbing feeling through the handlebar. I can't see any part of the tyre that is visibly in contact with any part of the plastics though. Bike also makes a kat-kat sound when I play the front suspension. The sound only comes if the play is vigorous though.

    Any solutions?

Stock chain cover holds this chain slider. Stunner's chain cover will not be able to hold it in place.

Lathe guys will fix it. They will easily make a oversized bleeder nut if a suitable O.S nut is not available from other calipers.

As the ignition is DC, bike will not run properly when the battery charge is low. What is the output of the alternator at idling RPM ?

      Any solutions?

MY font break play is misbehaving some times it have a longer play some time its normal.
Longer play appears when applying more break while on heavy traffic

Whether changing both the gaskets will solve the issue, or should it be thoroughly checked?
Also, There is some problem with the front forks as well, since whenever I use front brakes there is some vertical play in the handle bar as if something is loose
What should I do to fix these problems.
          Got my bike serviced today.

          1. Engine Oil was changed after 1200 Kms (Although quite early) with Gulf Pride 4T Synth again.

          2. Handle cone was tightened and Fork oil was replaced with Motul Fork Oil Expert. Now, there is no play in the handle bar and soccer's are damping fine

          3. Tensioner gasket was re-fitted after applying Anabond gasket sealant, and both the O-Rings of crankshaft window were replaced with new ones. The oil-leakage issue seems to resolved as of now

Below are the images of spark plug and Motul Fork Oil for reference.

Well, I used the Stunner set up for a good 11 months before this happened and I never had such issues before. So I doubt it's due to the change of Chain Case.

Are you sure the (almost) Custom Bleeder Nut can be fabricated as easily as it sounds?

I'm not sure about that. But I vaguely remember our bikes giving out 140W or so from the alternator. I'm hopeless at electricals, so I don't know for sure.

              That's great news! Congrats!

Honestly, the stock Seat Cover is the best. I've had experience! :P And Crash Guard? I though the company gives these as default with the bike, not anymore?

Just tell them not to over-rev the bike after first startup like they do to every bike and check for nicks across the bike in particular near the handlebar ends and mirrors.

Now, since my brakes are going in for repair in 2 days' time, I was thinking, why not overhaul them once and for all? I understand a change of the Major and Minor kits for the front brakes have been long overdue. I looked around and found these parts to be the ones I need to buy.

              Cylinder Set Master(Major Kit):

              45530-KCC-841

              OR

              45504-KCC-841 BOOT COMP.
              45525-KCC-841 PUSH ROD
              45526-KCC-841 SPRING , PUSH ROD
              90651-KCC-841 CIRCLIP
              45503-KCC-841 PISTON
              45506-KCC-841 SPRING

              Minor Kit:

06451-KCC-841 SEAL SET, PISTON, 2 of them
              45107-KCC-841 PISTON, 26, 2 of them

I understand this is before Hero switched over to Bybre brakes. Will the part numbers still remain the same?

I also came across this PDF which I believe will be very useful to every Hero Honda owner, it's a price list of (I think) all Hero Honda bike parts. To search for a part number, remove the Hyphens and then search, eg. To look for 45506-KCC-841, search for 45506KCC841 ie. 45506-KCC-841 without the Hyphens.

              Cheers!

GRS suspensions are pretty expensive, you can ask an xtreme owner for alternatives if you don't want to spend that much.

                      Hi All,

My Bike Xtreme went for 3rd service, and till now i m using Hero recommended Oil. I put petrol only in BP. Need some clarifications and suggestions.

                      1) My Bike still have that pulling problem, like it struggles to pull beyond certain speed (say for 5the gear 50 + KM it struggles which makes me worry). And if i go beyond 50, sound of the bike changes a lot and vibrations occur vigorously. Checked for chain slack, but i don know whether it is exactly 1.5 inch. I can t explain the same to service people because, my bike behaves normally at times and struggling at times and i m really frustated why it is behaving in such a way
                      2) My handle bar seems to be wobbling @ very minute level, but there is for sure, service guys saying it is normal, is it so?

Please somebody help me on this. Also can anyone give me the contact of good mechanic in CHENNAI .

                      Thanks,

Try changing your oil to Motul 3000 plus 10w30 or Motul 5100 10w30.

1.If i turn handle to extreme left , rev shoots to 2K indicating accelerator wire being pulled , can this be corrected or do i need to change the cable ?
2.I have bought Gulf Fork Oil and will be changing it soon as front forks have become stiffer than before . I need to use 160 ml on both without opening the forks ??
3.Mine handle racer is stiff , and makes slight noise when handle is turned ( only audible when bike is off ) , please help me with SKF racer no.

                            Here are my suggestions
                            1. I think there is no need to change the cable. It can be compensated by providing some free play in the throttle from the handle end.

                            2. I got the front forks serviced recently. Both the forks were opened and old oil was manually pumped out. I had purchased Motul fork oil which comes in 350ml bottle. So I poured exactly 175 ml each in both the forks by measuring through a funnel.

                            3. I don't have the part no. of SKF cone set, but you don't need this and you can get the cone set by motorcycle model as well..

Right on friend but it was too late to make any corrections as throttle was getting stiff and stuck at full opening , so changed it to OE CABLE COMP THROTTLE costs around 70rs

I also greased front brake calliper pins and believe me its easy yet important . All one needs is #12 ring / T spanner , Drift , Hammer

1.Using drift and hammer take out the brake pads
2.By removing #12 bolts , calliper body will seperate from disc plate.
3.Then just pinch rubber boot and remove the metal plate with which two pins ( it is black colored plate )
4.You will see the caliper pins have WHITE grease , this is silicon grease . So i filled the rubber boots with adequate silicon grease and refitted back the plate

Then reassemble everything , i coudnt take pics as i didnt have camera and hands were dirty too.

Also i want to share a nightmare here , the rear parking light got fused , as a result i had to change it as no light on number plate = CHALLAN-ED

So i had few push 5W bulbs as spare , but had no idea how to change it , i called up my mech and he told procedure , it sounded tricky so here it goes another DIY ( with no pics )

                              1. Remove Both side panels
                              2. Remove rear seat
                              3. Remove the silver horns ( yes that extreme`s signature horns ) it will require #12 T / Ring spanner
4.Remove rear cowl , it will require removing 4 X #10 bolts and screws on top and well as bottom .
5.Now after you remove rear cowl , tail lamp assembly will be visible . it will be secured by 3 X #10 nuts and washers
6.Carefully remove all 3 nuts and washers , take care you dont lose them .
7.Remove electrical connectors and just shake tail lamp so that it is confirmed no more bolts need to be removed
8.Then pull out slowly the tail lamp assembly
9.Now there will be total 5 screws in assembly , 3 big and 2 small , unscrew 2 small ones
                              10. Now we need to remove assembly`s fiber glass part
                              11. You will see it is bit lift-and-pull kind of type.
12.Using blunt plastic or screwdriver covered with cloth start removing section by section this fiberglass
13.After the fiberglass comes out , take out the fused bulb , pop in new one and refit everything back
14.There will be a lining of styrofoam on fiberglass , when putting it back make sure this lining doesnt come out and fits properly.

14.NOW MAKE SURE YOU SCREW TAIL LAMP`S PARTS BEFORE PUTTING BACK ON BIKE AND RECONNECTING THE CABLES , I FORGOT ONE SCREW AND HAD TO OPEN UP ALL THE WAY AGAIN

As you can see the spare was worth 3-5rs but the labour required was much more . But rest assured tail light is working 100% again.
Carb Tuning made easy (Thanks Sibun !)

I had issues where the Brake Fluid would leak from the Bleeder Nut. I showed it to a Mechanic who said he can try re-threading using a lathe.

And it worked as intended! No leakage issues anymore. The procedure cost me 450/-

I also wished to change the Major and Minor kits, but wasn't able to get any part of the major kit from the Authorized Stockist for Bangalore, Parshawa Motors, so dropped the idea of the Minor Kit albeit temporarily.

BUT, the brake bite has improved dramatically ever since they were fixed. They are much better than what they before even before the Bleeder Nut started leaking fluid.

Now, the only issue is oil leaking from the head. The same mechanic said that the issue can easily be fixed by re-threading at a lathe. My only concern is, will this cause the threads to be stripped again the next time the head is opened?

The mechanic's name is Ansar and his garage is called Mohan Automobiles. Located near Vasavi Conventional Hall, Basavanagudi almost opposite to Corner House, Kanakapura Main Road.
