Why do you wanna do that..? I mean, for something thats is rarely used, why spend another 50k..? And, is there anything wrong with that Stunner..?Originally posted by bikekrazy View Postguys should i sell my 2 year old stunner 4500kms only done on odo for this

If the current oil is due for change, switch to 20w40. Else, 10w30 would be fine, provided you keep a check on engine temp. Take a break if it over heats (which should hopefully be not the case)Originally posted by ShahriarXtreme View Posti'm going for a 300kms trip with my cbzX....can you please suggest whether i should use 10w30 grade oil or 20w40. currently using power1 10w30. i do ride constantly over 90kmph in these kinds of trips. what grade should i use?

For long drives with prolonged high RPM use of thicker oil is better, and engine will not heat up as much as with thinner oil...go with a good JASO MA2 20W40 oil....your engine may rev slowly, but you and the engine will love it...Originally posted by ShahriarXtreme View Posti'm going for a 300kms trip with my cbzX....can you please suggest whether i should use 10w30 grade oil or 20w40. currently using power1 10w30. i do ride constantly over 90kmph in these kinds of trips. what grade should i use?

+1 , that CP1 heats up worse than the HH 10w30 oil . While the engine does rev a bit slower with 20w40 , it doesn't matter much, as I observed that a hot engine just builds up rpm without making more power anyway . Better get motul/gulf/elf than castrol if you do change . It was 46C on the road in kolkata at noon today and I was thankful that I was running yamalube 20w40 (relabeled motul) , earlier on the HH oil I remember having to take little breaks when I could feel the heat on my shoesOriginally posted by psr View PostFor long drives with prolonged high RPM use of thicker oil is better, and engine will not heat up as much as with thinner oil...go with a good JASO MA2 20W40 oil....your engine may rev slowly, but you and the engine will love it...
. And this is just from running around the city ....

i never felt overheating in my bike, not in any trip. i always take breaks after 60-70kms may be thats why. i have always used 10w30 grade except for once without any hesitation just because its recommended but after reading all these 10w30 vs 20w40 i'm confusedOriginally posted by sooraj_vs View PostIf the current oil is due for change, switch to 20w40. . my next oil change would definitely be 20w40 grade oil.
bro actually i used gulf premium 4t 20w40 grade once, yeah it felt smoother.but during the trip my bike was slower to reach 100kmph & took a lot more time than it usually does with 10w30. that day i drained up the oil & started using power1. but after reading all of this i think i'll use 20w40 grade oil again to give it another chanceOriginally posted by psr View PostFor long drives with prolonged high RPM use of thicker oil is better, and engine will not heat up as much as with thinner oil...go with a good JASO MA2 20W40 oil....your engine may rev slowly, but you and the engine will love it...
. by the way i never felt any overheating in my bike except for the early days when it was new.
do you think that using 20w40 grade can prolong the life of the engine than using 10w30 grade oil? if yes then i'll certainly use this grade.
thanks a lot for your reply....

The 20w40 sticks to the parts better than 10w30 and during hot conditions this actually saves the moving parts from running with less lubrication...Originally posted by ShahriarXtreme View Postdo you think that using 20w40 grade can prolong the life of the engine than using 10w30 grade oil? if yes then i'll certainly use this grade.

The slowness in revving with 20w40 will not be very significant, unless you are into racing where every 1/100th second matters.....but the smoothness of engine and parts longevity will be better. When Was The Last Time,You Did Something For The First Time.

i have decided to use 20w40 grade oil in my next oil change. Here only castrol activ, gulf pride 4t, mobil super 4t & yamalube is available. i want to go for yamalube but is it mineral or semi syth? between gulf & yamalube which one will i choose?

If you have not felt any problem with 10w30 and have not liked it after using the gulf 20w40 , I would advise to stick to your 10w30 . No point in wasting motor oil like this
. If you do try it , stick to it for at least 1500km, and see if it settles alright for you .
Gulf and Yamalube are both good 20w40s , you can choose any . I prefer the yamalube because I know it's relabeled motul(3000 4t plus) and that there is no chance of getting fake oil from a yamaha authorised service center which is known to me and it's very near my home . Yamalube I got is mineral SL , MA2 20w40 .. very good oil @ 1900kms now on my bike . Rs 220.00 for a liter bottle . They also sell semi and fully synthetics but I never enquired about those .

last year i did pune to nasik (226 kms to be pricise) on my CBZ-X 2009 with HH stock 10W30 filled in it...with 2 short breaks...overall i didnt faced any major issue...but yes i was feeling quite a warmness on my legs....Originally posted by ShahriarXtreme View Postthanks for your reply....

this year i switched to shell advance AX3 20W40... and biliv me increased smothness as well as heat reduction is remarkable... 2 weeks back i had been to lavasa (45 kms off pune).....and the bike ws jst awesome...didnt felt any heating on my legs and as i said...the engine growl+ smoothness ws just awesome....
i would certainly advice to go fr an oil change to 20W40

once the throttle is closed, some serious amount of resistance is offered. Guess this is bcoz the engine is new.
